Pokémon are essentially their world's "animals". If we get a cat, a dog, a rabbit as a pet, I'm sure nobody would complain. Same rule applies to Pokémon if it somehow became real, sure you can adopt them for pets but not use them for battle, an example for this is the movie Detective Pikachu, Pokémon and Human live harmoniously and battling is illegal. Which is what I expect will happen in the real world. For a lot of trainers in the anime, like you said about the trainer who abandoned his Charmander, Pokémon to them are, to quote: "To them you're just a freak, they'll need you now, but when they don't, they'll cast you out, like a leper." And "No matter what you do for them, eventually, they will hate you." Not every person is like Ash who cares for Pokémon, and that's honestly happening in our real world as well, just that the subject changes to animals. Catching Pokémon and putting them in a Pokéball is just like capturing animal and putting them in a zoo, except not for viewing. Is it inhuman? Not really. Is it disgusting? Not really. Ash is another example where, if you watched the anime he never uses a ball that's not an ordinary Pokéball, (exclude the safari balls), almost every Pokémon followed him by choice, so he decided to put them in a Pokéball to keep them safe. If those rules applied to our world, and if everyone has a gentle heart like Ash, we could live in this world with Pokémon, in harmony, but too bad that's not how it works. Anyway, good video, got me hooked up to it as I've typed out such a big essay in the topic haha

Wow! A very insightful comment Sparkist! I'm glad you enjoyed it, this was my first time doing anything like this-that is a more serious, essay style video-so I'm glad it turned out well for you! I've read your comment a couple times now, and for the most part, I agree with you. Pokemon really are the Pokemon universe's equivalent to real-world animals, and yes, Ash is a great person. That's why I made sure to highlight this in the video, especially his display of selflessness with the Charmander. Also, I liked your comparison between the Pokeball and Zoos. They really are similar; however, I don't think that justifies it. While Zoos are perhaps alright for animals with extremely limited brain power, they can become incredibly cruel for monkeys, octapus, dogs, pigs, etc. When you consider that Pokemon are actually incredibly smart-I mean look at Mewtwo, and even Meowth-I think that makes it even worse. These animals would not want to be subject to a prison, and yes, some people let them roam free, but not all. I think the main problem lies in the fact that, in this world, Pokemon are both Friend, and tool, but also commodity. You can make a comparison between the real world dog, which can also be both Friend and tool, but it is increased to the 10th degree in Pokemon. People don't typically collect 100s of dogs simply for the sake of collecting, do they? (I'd hope not!) Just like you said, the world is not a perfect place, and not everybody is like Ash. Unfortunately, the Pokeball just makes exploitation even easier for those with illl intentions. It can be used for good, but it is built on a foundation of manipulation and enslavement. Ash treats his Pokemon well, but I imagine he is in a relative minority. I think it makes it even worse when you consider that Pokemon are clearly more intelligent then our real-world animals. Like I said with Meowth, he has learned to speak, and Pikachu clearly displays a wide range of emotion. But anyways, I really like what you said, and I really like that we can have a discussion like this on a fictional topic like Pokemon! Can't do that with Hello Kitty! We can talk about Pokemon being slaves, but still I love the franchise all the same. I think it's funny to think that people can dig so deep into something that was created simply to mimic a guys hobby of bug-catching haha.

LOL! I really enjoyed reading your comment, I also really liked that quote. Where did you get it? It sounds familiar. Like I said in the conclusion, I actually planned this video to have A LOT more, but after I wrote the script I realized I needed to cut out about 2/3 or it would be like an hour long lol. So if this video does well I'll definitely do another one!

@@Witkomon my quotes came from "The Dark Knight" and "Spider Man", says a lot when an old quote still reflects the world huh. Anyway, looking forward to your next video!

Hmm, I’m not to sure about this. Pokémon are a copyright of Nintendo, so technically you would not be allowed to make money on them. Nintendo/The Pokémon Company would be well within their right to ask you to stop. That said, many people sell their own custom Pokémon cards, so as long as it’s on a relatively low volume, and you aren’t hurting Nintendo, it should be alright. Again, this isn’t legal advice lol. I’m not sure, I haven’t sold anything before, but I’m going off of what I’ve seen. I would say it’s okay to make your own Pokémon cards and sell them.
