Brilliant advice Charlie. I started off with weekly lessons with a gundog trainer, concentrating on basic puppy obedience, socialisation and teaching calmness/neutrality around distractions. We now go for fortnightly one to ones but I also treat every walk/every interaction at home as a training opportunity with my puppy. She's 9 months old now, has reached adolescence and has just spent 3 weeks restricted to on lead/long line walks due to having her first season. She had her first off lead walk today since her season and although her head was full of nonsense, she still listening and responding well to my whistle, both on recalls and on the turn whistle while galloping around the local stubble fields. She WANTS to learn, enjoys learning and I enjoy training her. With 100s of years of working Gordon Setter and GWP ancestry, she wants and needs to be "working" (I consider her quartering a huge field, working the air scents and pointing through sheer instinct to be "work" for a puppy of her age). Nothing too complex for her age, but training her without her knowing she's being trained - directing her natural instinctive drive. As well as going to a gundog trainer, I enjoy watching online videos like yours as they are a great source of additional tips and information on training. I follow a number of gundog owners/handlers both on here and on TikTok. Thanks again 😊

Spot on as always! The 17 year old lab mix who just left us was one of those perfect dogs. She had a few moments when she was young but mostly she just wanted to be good. Now the little Cocker is another story......

Since i started following your videos, i see everyday as a training day with my springer collie cross 18 months old now. i am consistant and its starting to pay off his becoming a lovely lad 😊 he was a complete nightmare with pulling the whole walk however his so much better now, not perfect but i have hit a stumbling block - his initial excitement gets the better of him and he pulls example .... today took him to local dog friendly pet shop got pulled through the door, despite me trying to stop and make him wait he seemed calm and sat down but as soon as i moved he pulled me inside then the same on the way out back to the car, any advice would be gratefully received. It seems his always in a hurry for next adventure thanks charlie

Thx once again Charlie and team for this useful clip. Question please: could you perhaps do a session on advanced heeling? In one of the earlier retrieval clips you‘ve shown Ash working a lab who was basically glued to his leg - how do you get to there? Thanks and cheers from Austria 🤓

Question. What training do you do to livestock proof your puppy/young dog

It took a lot of effort to build my dogs confidence to go walking , he was very nervous when I took him out , he's very jumpy too , my problem now is how to get him off the lead to run around without him running off , he's a year old now .

I have a question. How do you solve the problem of a labrador who wants to switch dummies or continues to search for more dummies whilst having one in its mouth before coming back and leaving it to the handler?

Can you spend too much time with your new puppy? My 8 week old cocker constantly wants to be with me and whines when I put her in crate unless she’s really sleepy

Sadly the mental health issues of poorly bred dogs with severe anxiety issues going to a dog trainer will never help.

Sadly - as we have always agreed, not all dogs can be fixed
