Why You Should Watch Pokémon Horizons

As someone who watches in japanese and has kept up with it weekly. I can promise you Horizons is just getting started. The terastal debut arc is really fleshing out the characters, especially Dot. all the while slowly settling in a more traditional story pace for pokemon, despite still keeping up the search (no idea how to say it otherwise without spoiling) as a B plotline. I love horizons, Liko is very relatable to me, dot is more or less my early teen years and roy is endearing but often times very cringy, he's also the ash substitute like you said. a battle junky with a love for all pokemon. As for the villains, they're more like rivals, atleast Amethio is. Later on you'll meet the rest of the Explorers and 2 of them are semi competent, the other 2 are more or less horizon jesse and james

I actually really enjoyed the Sun and Moon anime during its time. It had a lot of variety which made the seasons feel a lot bigger. Though, I would probably rank it right below XYZ, because no one can out-do the goat.

When I first started watching Horizons I watched all the dubbed episodes, was too inpatient to wait for the next part so watched all the subbed episodes that had already been released, then got so invested I started keeping up with the Japanese release every week. It gets real good, and anyone who won’t at least consider it is seriously missing out

Horizons is honestly great and it defintely keeps getting better. While the dub is pretty good, I watch the anime in japanese and it sounds really cool (the japanese openings are amazing by the way). Even Roy's singing scene songs pretty cool. The explorers are and pretty cool. Some pretty interesting things going on with them as villains and with the rising volt tacklers. A lot of cool reveals and theories about the characters as well.

Yeah, it happens I guess. Reminds me of when I was younger and I didn’t want to watch the XY series because “it didn’t have Brock or Misty in it”… since at the time, the only other Pokémon media on Netflix besides Indigo League was Kalos related. But then I watched it, and it turned out to actually be better than Indigo League! I think as your siblings grow older, they’ll learn to respect branching out more. I know I did. But still, glad to hear you like Horizons too! :)

And as much as I miss ash since his last season was journeys, I was still so curious and excited to see the new protagonist Liko and see what can be her goal and what kind of adventure she will have. Wow, great video. In general, the series picks up pace as the episodes go by. When you see the season finale when it is released on Netflix, you will understand why the series entered one of its best moments. Later in what would be the second season, although there is a much more direct promotion to SV and there are airs that are reminiscent of most series with Ash, the route that is really taken is a different one in which they remove 99% of the filling that they had said routes and also the general plot advances, the villains are no longer perceived as such generic characters, all of Amethio's performance throughout the series takes on a quite personal meaning and the plot gives rise to many theories as the episodes pass and Now that the protagonists are going to go to a new region and with what they did in Paldea, everything indicates that things are going to continue improving a lot.

I only watched the episodes that lead up to Liko's Sprigattito getting captured using the KZbin connection that my home TV has. I couldn't find access to any other episodes of this reboot so I'm waiting until I can, then I will watch more of it. I think that the Team Rocket trio was one of the best parts of the previous Pokemon series, even though I haven't watched all of it yet. Though the Journeys season annoyingly revealed that their personalities had changed for the worse until the end of Ash's time as the protagonist of the show. They didn't seem much like villians especially because of the backstories that show them as sympathetic antagonists which can cause veiwers to think that the episodes that show them doing protagonist stuff are some of the best ones, wish that that was happening more often, and not be so pleased when that trio gets defeated due to being fans of them. I like the fact that in Horrizons these new antagonists have been written as bad and annoying ones because then it can feel satisfing when they get shown as the loosers. Like what I've been seeing from most of the villians in my recent views of the un-cut VIZ Media re-dub of the Sailor Moon anime. Also I'm pleased that Liko's starter Pokemon resembles a regular cat because kitty cats are currently my favorite animal species.

Yeah, I think if Ash’s story was really coming to a close forever, Jessie, James, and Meowth should have been redeemed. Especially considering the fact that they really weren’t all that passionate about stealing Pokémon. They just wanted to impress Giovanni. Who, mind you, wasn’t exactly Mister Serious himself, either. If I had to change anything about the end of Journeys, it would be having Team Rocket turn to the good side and be financially stable for once… and for Ash to get closer with Serena, since the writers did mention how if he had to be with anyone as a romantic partner, it would be her. Otherwise, all that buildup with her crushing on him would have been a huge waste of time. But regardless, they really did Team Rocket dirty. At least we have villains who are a bit more serious, this time.

@@natalimoina They did get changed for the worse because in most of the previous seasons of the Pokemon anime that TR trio were shown caring about the Pokemon that they had, did protagonist stuff at some situations, were shown accepting truces with Ash sometimes, and James was shown behaving like a lovable dork character, but when the Journeys season began it got revealed that the people who produced it would only allow that TR trio to be shown doing antagonist stuff. That change truely bothered a lot of fans.

Yeah, that sounds about right. The main reason I don’t watch Japanese dubs is because every voice is the same exact thing. Whether it’s the sexy man voice or the annoying high-pitched girl voice. Every. Single. Time. Plus, with English dubs, you can relate to the characters and take them seriously more easily. Because they speak your language.

@ The voices in the Japanese dub for Horizons are really varied and distinct. Also I don't know what anime you've watched in Japanese but most of the voice actors sound unique, and I've never had the problem with distinguishing them. Also it being in a different language doesn't make it harder for me to understand the characters. A voice actor's emotion is something that can be expressed beyond the bounds of language, and subtitles still give you the same information a dub would about the characters, but just in text form. Personally I switch between dub and sub depending on which performance I like more. Also for Pokémon in particular (especially the ones done by TPCI), the dub replaces a lot of the soundtrack of with its own tracks that tend to be unfitting imo. For example Ash Greninja's theme in XYZ being replaced by a shitty xylophone track in the dub. Yeah I know Ash Greninja's theme is the instrumental of the Japanese op for XYZ, but even 4Kids kept the instrumental ver of the Japanese op of Pokémon Advanced for the battles in that series. Like it's just cheap and lazy that TPCI couldn't allow the XYZ dub to have one of the most iconic themes in the Pokémon anime's history for its battles.

Imo Liko is a bad protagonist. Sure, I can relate to her in being quiet and shy, but those flaws don’t really define her journey. The main thing we see is she’s a child of destiny, and I’m not. They try to make a thing out of her being compassionate, but it is not really special or interesting imo. Comparing her to Ash now. Ash was someone I could see myself in. Someone who’s not perfect, yet puts his all into all he does. He has a grand dream that he’s laying the path out for. Roy dreaming to be like the ancient adventurer is good, and imo he could be a pretty good protagonist. But you’ll see later that he just isn’t getting enough time.

Liko began her journey because her family has ties to this legendary trainer and Terapagos, hence making her apart of the "chosen one" trope, while Ash is just some kid from the boonies with no special lineage or talent for training Pokémon. The only thing he has is pure determination for his dream and compassion for others, and we see him grow from this nobody into the world champion.

Binged most of the S1 part 1 on Netflix in the last 2 days. Really enjoy the series and the characters. Only real complaint I have is how much Liko explains her emotions for the audience, but I blame that more on the series being targeted at kids while following up Ash's action focused journey with Liko's which is more slice of life.

Though, depending on whether or not Liko truly is on the spectrum (I was mostly joking about it before), talking to yourself out loud or even in your head about your emotions is a healthy way to cope with them. I really love this show but for me you need to catch up with japanes dub, the ost and the dubbing are 100% better and in particular the ost make the difference also becuase the english dub is ok and anyway overall pretty good, the only problems are just that they change the ost in other easier and if i' not goes wrong in america they change roy's main goal in one more chilidish.Anyway for me now the characters i want to see more are the villains because for know are good and made some really good stuff and actually are villain and i like a lot friede.And I actuakky love that this 3 young trainers mostly of the time sucks becuase are young and so passe over 45 episodes of story and know they are taking their time for training and imlrpves their abilities.

Are you watching it on Netflix? Because I’m pretty sure there are only 24 episodes so far in the English dub, with more coming in August. As for the Japanese dub, I’m not sure how many episodes there are, so I can’t really tell whether or not you’re missing any. But if there are 32 episodes in the Japanese dub, then you just need to wait for more to come out. The series is nowhere near finished yet, not even in Japan.

After the Diamond and Pearl, the anime series just started rotting away and became zombified. And I should know, I sat through gen 5 anime not realizing till later that they basically hit the reset button on Ash's character. X and y is so God awful, Ash had no character and none of the other characters are remotely good, and the show it's is just taking it's action back nature and went completely over the top with it. I've watched the first episode of sun and moon and it felt like they cramped four episodes into one 20 minute episode, like they just rushed so much it was a headache. I didn't even try journeys, already knew how annoying goh was going to be. And this is how I feel as a long time Pokémon fan, after gen 5 the Pokémon themselves doesn't even resemble what a Pokémon is. You can't tell me that you can imagine the frickin keychain Pokémon to exist in the same world as a Pokémon like Jigglypuff, or the yugioh lookin lion belonging in the same world as Mewtwo. And you certainly couldn't tell me that if you took one of the new Pokémon like that buff furry fire cat and tell me it could fir right in a gen 1 game back in the day. And no, I'm not a "gen oner", my first Pokémon anime/film was movie 3 which is a gen 2 movie and my first game game was Pokémon Channel which came out during gen 3, first mainline game was Pokémon Diamond. I enjoy gen 1, 2, 3, 4, and I even enjoy the black and white game. The later stuff is soulless and doesn't even feel like Pokémon.

To be honest, i dont understand this new age quest of liking the protagonist more if they are more relatable. It doesn't help if the people who are doing this are basement-dwelling introverted kids who have got no better goals or aspirations. Take example of other amazing anime or games. Most of them show protagonists that are wildly different in both action and motivation than an average person on earth would ever be, and they are still loved so much.

If you at least have internet access (which if you’re on KZbin then you obviously do) then you can always hop on Dailymotion or something to see if the Japanese dub is available. Though, I’m still unsure about that. I only remember being able to watch Journeys on there four years ago before it was added to Netflix. And I’m not really sure if Dailymotion has added copyright claims since then, which it seemed as though they original did not. Still, good luck either way!

The joke was that three personalities is way too many. Before Kalos, Ash started out clumsy but overall knew what he was doing later down the road. During Kalos, he was in ultra-serious mode. After Kalos, he was this goofy little goober. Liko has only one focused personality. Also, correction, traits come with each personality. Her having “three traits” isn’t the same as her having “three personalities”, like in Ash’s case. P.S. I never outright forgot her personality. I just couldn’t find a good way to describe it, so I made a joke out of it by looking it up. You can also see later on how I’m able to easily talk about her struggles without looking those up.

Ash wasn't in "ultra-serious mode" 24/7 in Kalos. Maybe if you just saw some popular clips from XY you'd assume that, but Ash was only determined to get his 8 badges and win the Kalos League, he didn't become a completely different character altogether. I mean we straight up see at the end of BW Ash telling Pikachu that he didn't try hard enough in Unova, and that from now on he's going to try harder to become a Pokemon Master, so this didn't come out of nowhere. Just watch the first episode of the XY anime and you'd see that Ash is still his carefree and goofy self. I don't know how you could watch that episode and still think Ash in XY was this "ultra-serious" guy. And then in Sun and Moon, sure Ash's silliness is exaggerated for comedic effect, just like the rest of the cast, but it's not some completely different Ash we've never seen before. There are plenty of moments where when the situation calls for it, Ash can be mature and not goof around, take "One Journey Ends, Another Begins!" for example. Furthermore, this isn't something that came out of nowhere, as it was an established plot point that Ash was pushing himself way too hard in Kalos. There are many episodes where Ash needs to learn to slow things down in Kalos, and he does that in Alola, which was originally meant to simply be a vacation for him. Instead of being focused solely on becoming stronger, he takes a step back and tries all sorts of new things. TLDR: Regardless of whether or not Liko is a better protagonist than Ash, it's just wrong to claim that Ash had 3 completely distinct characters throughout his role as the protagonist for all of these years, unless you've skipped parts of the anime or haven't actually watched it.

Uhhhh, it STARTS OFF in Kanto. But that doesn’t mean they never go to Paldea. In fact, judging from the clips I’ve seen from the Japanese dub, Paldea seems to be a huge focus later on.

Story only starts in Kanto, but the main setting is the airship that they use to travel all over the Pokemon world. There's even a decent chunk of episodes (including a major arc) that takes place in Galar. Right now, the main cast are in Paldea for story reasons and so that the main trio can train.

Doesn't Liko only have 2 Pokémon still? Pokémon's appeal is the variety so lacking a variety of Pokémon is problematic for a Pokémon protagonist. Tim had no Pokémon but he only had to fill the run time of a 2 hour movie. Kamen Riders have more suits than she has Pokémon after like 5 episodes
