For those of you following me, you know I've been experimenting with subsonic 5.56/223 for some time now. My most recent experiment, whether or not subsonic rounds would cycle an ar-15. It will not and I've concluded that it is dangerous. Here's why:
1. The chances of getting a squib load while doing low-power or sub sonic rounds is significantly higher.
2. In the case that you do get a squib, it is next to impossible to notice. There is no difference between a subsonic round leaving your barrel and a sub-sonic squib especially if you're on the range with other shooters or even if you're just talking while shooting.
3. Because you can't hear or tell the difference between a squib load and normal subsonic 5.56, shooting a second round behind that squib is almost inevitable.
My gunsmith said I was lucky to escape with all my face and all my fingers. Be careful guys. This is just my experience.
