@@kovi567 I started the manga and the beginning is a bit confusing, since the main character tends to imagine things that aren't there. Like some people he talks to don't really exist or he says something to someone but in reality he didn't and it was all in his head. I couldn't even be sure, if the outbreak has already happened or not, since maybe all the "normal" people weren't so normal in reality. But in Chapter 10 or so it really starts with the zombie stuff for real.

I am a Hero is one my personal fave zombie series. The Hanazawa way uses Hideo's (the main character) mental issues in a zombie apocalypse and builds on his sibling-like relationship with Hiromi is interesting. Also, the manga just gets plain absurd with its worldbuilding. It's a shame the movie only covered like the two first arcs and not the really off the walls shit that happens later in the manga.

I really appreciate how this movie accurately portrays how brain damage would work on a zombie. If all the undead is using the brain for is to move the body around then most of the physical brain is extrenies. All they really need is the amygdala, thalamus, and brain stem. Very few properties actually cover them in any realistic/scientically possible way and not just resort to "all organ function except the brain cease, they can virtually live forever, they produce infinite energy for mobility without requiring food of any kind, and headshots only way drop them" i like how this particular movie does special infected which is something more zombie properties should do, i just hate how hilariously bad the infection process works. When ykou mentioned "gym rats" I couldn't help thinking of a roanoke zombie running around going "Swoggles!" and "stay strapped or get clapped!" Also the varients way of moving reminds me a lot of Japanese yokai. If you want a trippy creature idea Zackass, try looking up the woodcuts of Toriyama Sekian. He documented lore of Japanese ghosts and demons in a time when such things were considered very real. So a pursuit like his was considered an important one; document how demons and ghosts look and behave so that people from nobles to the common man could defend themselves from such things. His book the "Gazu Hyakki Yako" is still influencing anime and manga to this day, along with his various woodcuts.

true, i have been arguing that majority of people still have morals and ethics, not to mention religious CAN NOT kill their loved ones/friends/colleagues and so on because they are attached to them. I read the manga a few years before watching the movie and let me just say, I really wish the movie touched upon the other carriers known collectively as the Kurusu. If remember correctly, the Kurusu's adapted much, much more quickly, keeping full speech capabilities throughout their partial transformation. That being said, they were far more mentally unstable and violent. Another semi-common trait between them, is that they either suffered from a traumatic injury like a bite or mauling (Like Paintball Mask Kurusu or the 'First' known Kurusu), or had prior long-term injury like a missing limb or partial to full parallelization (The Emperor). There was an Italian (I think) Kurusu known as the Panini Man and he was probably the most stable one despite considering anything edible to be paninis. There was something more about the Kurusu's later on but that is end-manga spoilers that I don't really remember all that, BUT what I think remember most was that they are not hybrids, just delayed time bombs.

The open source game Cataclysm is what I'm reminded of when I see these ZQN zombies. For reference, I've mostly played the Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead branch and zombie mutations is a constant thing. In fact, you gotta pulp the bodies or else the infection revives it the next day or so which takes time. The mutations also get quite crazy: Tough Zombies are your athletic types, initially they got higher HP and deal more damage but they can mutate into a stronger zombie that can knock your character around. That can then mutate into a hulk that will smash the crap out of you. Interestingly enough there are headless zombies that can only detect stuff next to them but they can mutate into a different variant. Police and military zombies can also fuse with their Kevlar to become Kevlar skinned zombies (an excellent source for Kevlar sheets when you skin them!)

With my superman complex and my tragic background I'm garunteed to become a hybrid. You wouldn't believe my levels of willpower. I'm not even worried about being chronically sleepy. I once walked 36 miles and worked a 10 hour shift plus a 12 hour shift the next day after being kicked awake multiple times and being screamed at continuously while trying to get some basic rest. The next day I walked 40 miles in my sleep to try out for American Ninja Warrior because I'd already payed the entrance fee months prior. I made it over the first 2 obsticles but I had no balance to speak of so I failed on the wobbly rolling log. I woke up multiple times on my way "home" because it started raining and I kept stepping in puddles. I love the rain and one of my favorite things is to run and train in thunderstorms and blizzards.

This reminds me of another zombie manga I read called Fort of Apocalypse. It basically follows a zombie virus that acts more like a forced evolutionary virus, allowing the common zombie to run at insane speeds, and possess superhuman strength. After some time, some already turned zombies into dog-shaped monsters the run at insane speeds. And the single reason why humanity would and should be rendered extinct from this virus…the Bokor. The Bokor is a sort of super zombie hivemind capable of manipulating the actions of zombies to move, like the zombies from the World War Z movie and video game, except with much more precision and in far more creatively terrifying ways. Bokors can psychically command a horde of zombies to make a bridge over large gaps, ladders over tall walls, dog they can LITERALLY create titan-sized monsters made of zombies! The only upside to this apocalypse would be that unlike most zombie media, a cure IS possible for this. Not just for the regular zombies, but for the Bokors as well, proven when the main protagonist, Maeda, a boy who was infected with the Bokor virus, and was in the middle of a several day, possibly, week transformation process, was able to be cured by a scientist thanks to her using Maeda’s blood to reverse engineer a cure.

Just to add upon the "special" variant ZQN - They are called Combat-Type ZQN in the manga and don't only come from physically able people. It is half physical prowess and half determination. They also have the ability to regenerate, taking over the bodies of other ZQN by severing their head and attaching to the body. So even if you think you got rid of one, he might come back with more knowledge.

The Japanese can make some really good zombies. They look uncanny, make weird alien-like noises as if communicating, and have a grotesque spasming way of moving. ...not to mention the zombies they've come up with are pretty scary too.

the manga is so damn good then...it literally just stops. it kind of has an ending, then it carries on a little and then just stops it feels like the mangaka didnt know how to write an epilogue and totally needed just one last chapter. i loved how the movie did it. akes me wish we got a fortress of apocalypse movie cause thats another one with fucking wierd zombies
