Why your 2ds powers on then turns off with a pop

I've been playing around with repairing a 2ds lately. After a bit of trial and error I found out why the 2ds powers on then turns off with a pop, The 2ds cant detect the backlight.
This could be something as simple as the ribbon cable for the 2ds coming loose but it could also mean the screen is broken

Thanks. I knew this, with the pop, had to mean an issue with the display. But I tested my display in a different 2DS and it worked fine. But once you mentioned backlight, I checked the backlight connector and the pins were lifted a bit. Pushed them down, powered right up. Thanks!

Bruh I fixed my 2ds (I got it as junk form eBay the sleep switch was corroded but with APA I was able to get it to work) I took it apart to clean it completely and it worked fine, but the start and select weren’t working ( this happened before I just didn’t align the rubber correctly) but when I went back to turn it on after fixing that it gave me the popping sound. I’ve checked all cables and connectors but nothing seems out of the usual??? Any ideas???

This is the one thing that bugs me and find really wierd, You can't get replacement parts anywhere. If you get lucky sometimes repair people see used parts on ebay

I had this happen to mine when the ribbon cable to the rear cameras tore. I suspect that it does a system check and shuts down, with a click when a major failure is discovered. .

@facelesstech, So if I'm understanding right, if the gray hinge broke off that display insert, the whole motherboard won't work anymore even if I plug the display cord into that port without the gray clasp? I have a new screen coming in tomorrow, just want to make sure I have the right parts.

The gray clasp holds the ribbon cable against the contacts, if it does break then you can wedge something in the gap like a piece of card. Hope it all goes well

@@rachellicata6749 it might be easier to use a bit of paper/card board. Insert the ribbon then slip the paper/card board in on top between the ribbon and holder. The tape on the chrome books is probably kapton tape (yellow translucent colour) would be useful to hold everything in place

Have you had any with a faulty sleep mode switch? Mine randomly going into sleep mode, if I barely touch it happens as well. I imagine it probably just needs resoldered.

Before resoldering you could try cleaning it with IPA to see if that helps

Hi what was the problem with the 2ds? did it turn on then off with a pop? remember to check the sleep slider is off, This tripped me up as you can see in the video

My 2ds is charged and I can turn it on, then if you move it a certain way or place it on the table it starts to blink like it is on very low battery and it turns off. I can turn it back on with it saying low battery and turns off quickly as a 2ds with low battery does. Do you have any suggestions what about be wrong? Anything helps thank you

This sounds like a battery issue. I would take the battery out and see if the contacts are dirty if they are not then I would try a new battery

@@facelesstech yes, I went with my brother to get a new battery and we needed to charge it before using but now there was a new problem. My 2ds would turn orange (to show it was charging) and five seconds later it turns off not charging anymore😅

You might need to look at the back light connector. If you have some isopropyl alcohol you can give it a quick clean

I have the same problem, but my "ribbon lock" jump off the 2ds and i lost it, i've tried tu maintain it with tape, but it didn't work. do you have any idea to help me ?

Hi which ribbon cable lock did you break, you could try and jam a piece of paper in to the top of the ribbon cable because the ribbon cable lock does just this. Hope this helps

I have the same problem but with my original 3ds also additional detail when I try to turn it on the bottom screen start to turn on with that dark grey color but the top screen stay black and then it turn off with a pop noise please help :(

i had that problem in the first rev. of 3ds. it turns out it was the wifi module that was not in place :) try to reseat that wifi module

What I would suggest is you discount all the ribbon cable and clean them with IPA then reconnect them, see if that helps

Do you have a channel to repair Nintendo 2ds? I have a 2ds that gives the charge led but the battery doesn't charge. I measured the 3 pins and noticed differences between another console that charges and one that doesn't

Not sure what's going on there. Have you check that the charge port isn't Damaged?

@@facelesstech port is new and I have 5v The problem is that on 3 pins at battery I have 1,45V between pin 1 and 3 and I have 1,36V between pin 2-3 . In normal condition on other 2ds I have 0,67V between pin 1-3.

I have the same problem. So when I was putting my 2ds back together, after I screwed everything in. I had to connect the backlight connector, I had some problems placing the little thing that snaps the connector in place. Ended up breaking that thingy. I'm not sure what to do now (it's grey btw). I tried to charge it, and then if I tried to turn it on, not even the blue light comes on anymore. Help.

Hi, did you change the whole connector? You might want to check for shorts on the new one. Also make sure the battery is charged and that the sleep switch is off, I know it sounds simple but it's stumped me a few times

@@facelesstechYeah sleep switch is off. I accidentally spilled some isopropyl alcohol on it, and now the light shows up again. Yes it's charged. Also what would be the point of changing the whole connector if it's not damaged? I hadn't damaged it at all.

If the sleep switch was faulty it just wouldn't turn on. I would try re-seating the screens ribbon cables

Different colour? If that's the case it means the screen is broken, or that the ribbon for the backlight is broken or the socket broken. Have you tired reseating the ribbon cable

@@facelesstech The motherboard looks different than yours. For example, the WiFi antenna is in a different place. Also, there was no ribbon cable connecting the back of the ds. How would I reseat the ribbon cable?

@@navdeepbanks190 ah OK, it must be an earlier board then. From looking online there should still be the same ribbon cables. Just check to see if the ribbons aren't tucked under the board because that does happen

Mine turns on (tho some times it takes a few tries to turn on) but the screens randomly turns off most of the times for 1 or 2 seconds but some times for about 4 or 5 seconds. While the screens are turned off the blue light fades a bit then lights up stronger and does this repeatedly until the screens turn back on. Recently, or maybe I just noticed it, when the screens turn off and then on there's a very faint pop, is hard to hear but it's there. It has been happening more often now and it's also lasting longer. Sometimes teh screens turn off and after a while the whole ds will shut down completely. I'm really sad, my brother bough second hand as my birthday present and it hasn't even been a year and it's already like this :(

I recently bought a DSi that had a similar problem to this, it turned out to be the battery. This could be the same issue that you are having, do you know anyone that has a 2ds you could swap the battery with?

@@forgetthes5824 all you need to do is unscrew the top 2 screws and remove a panel. It's not really like taking it apart. Hope this helps

Had nearly given up on my 2ds. I broke the clip for the back light ribbon cable taking it apart to replace the digitiser. Got it working again by wedging down the ribbon cable. No problem now.

That sounds so weird. It could be a battery issue. Have you tried turning the 2ds on and just leaving it to see if it does the same

You can solder the connector using some 0.25mm solid core wire, it's got 4 pins on the connector but it's just 2 for VCC and 2 for GND, quite fine soldering tho, or you can use thses connectors a.aliexpress.com/_EwT1huV

This normally means the ribbon cable it damaged or that the socket it damaged or that the backlight in the screen is damaged. I suspect its the screen thats broken

From what I've seen all DS's do this when the back light isn't connected. You would have to see which ribbon cable is for the backlight

@@facelesstech so basically I turn it on and it’s normal after 15-20 seconds it then goes to error screen it tells me to hold down the power button to turn off the ds and try again it does this over and over again, it was working fine a week ago I literally can’t play games or do anything without this happening

@@deanjamescooper9388 as weird as it sounds, it's your WiFi card that causing this. You will need to remove the back to reseat the WiFi card. Hope this helps you out

@pinkity drinkity Ah that's going to be a problem, If you have got the right sized screwdriver and place a elastic band between the screw driver and screw head you might be able to get them out and order replacement screws

Easiest trick. Take it then clean it with wet paper then put it back and place paper on it then Just place case and thats end like me if i helped you
