Saw this exact thing first person when I was in Japan, although it was with sealed product and not actual singles or slabs. Visited a store called Card Secret which had a wide array of both Japanese and even English (surprisingly), but as soon as you walk in the door there’s immediately sealed pokekyun and boxy boxes for sale for like easily over a million yen. Obviously I couldn’t afford any of that, but it was still really cool to see in person and def kept me looking around the store for longer than I probably should have lmfao

At the start of 2020 I got into graded Pokémon card collecting. Then Logan Paul made the market go boom. I sold a bunch of cards at a 4x multiplier. People who bought those cards at the market peak are now holding those cards 3 and a half years later at half the value of what they paid. Volatile investment markets are br00tal. Now I do crypto. Gonna do it all over again, but with even bigger multipliers

Back in 2018 even collector cards weren't really worth that much. But the playable cards were 20-30x the price they are now. It's weird how the market has completely flipped

Most of these cards sold for way more than what they were worth during the pandemic and people that bought them are finding it difficult to sell them for the same price they paid let alone a profit.

I recall trying to sell my psa 10 1st edition holo blaines charizard for like 200 and the guy wouldn't pay more than 180, we never made the deal and I held the card and sold for 2.5 to 3.5k or something

@@skrkttrqzq9984 i once listed an item for 40 bucks, watcher offered 34. i went to 37, he went to 35. i countered one more time to 36 and he declined. stubbornness both ways happens a lot i reckon sold the item a few days later at 40.

Just found your channel and I think you're bang on - you having that illustrator pikachu and some pal city cards made me go through all your listings! on another note though, I've always thought anything over $200 for a card was outrageous (it's just a little piece of cardboard that's going to sit on my shelf!) but half of the stuff I still want (usually rare/obscure japanese cards) is between $200-$10,000! How does this even happen? who are these people spending my monthly salary on one piece of cardboard?!

government helicopter money finally dried up. Stocks and housing are next to fall. Many Pokemon cards have hit bottoms but the big, old, rare, expensive ones still have 70-80% to drop. It'll be unimaginably steep.

Those items will never drop because the people who hold them have enough money and don't care to sell. Luxary goods tend to be the most uneffected during hard economic times and those old rare and expensive ones are just that. People who can afford to buy them have enough money to not sell.
