I hate that English special sets get no form of booster box. I really like the smaller booster boxes for the Japanese special sets. We get too many obscure and bulky products for them.
@thsigma3514
@thsigma3514 Жыл бұрын
151 actually gets a booster bundle, the first special set to have one. 6 packs for msrp ($4.50 now). It may not be a booster box kinda deal, but you don't have any extra fluff or added cost b/c of a promo or dice or a coin.

Increased demand met with increased supply to match. I think it’s just the next level for Pokémon and I’m here for it. As a whole I think the English and Japanese card market for vintage is pretty solid too. Only Japanese modern is getting a little suspicious with manipulation of obvious waifus. Even then, exclusive Japanese promos have grown fairly organically.
@cafe100mph6

If you look at charts psa 10 vintage does extremely well vs lower grades if you can afford it upfront. Vintage already is at 10 -25x lower psa 10 pop report, that number gap will continue to rise as people haven't even opened/ graded half of Sword & Shield yet. Vintage is down from all time high and is flat lined and primed to get another bull run. Remember, every set will be vintage in 20 years so why not buy OG vintage with %5 the psa 10 pop.

When the economy tanks, most of these modern cards are going to lose more than 60% of their current market price. When people aren't eating, it's just cardboard.Sell your modern at these crazy prices and move the money over the early WOTC PSA 8 and higher. You won't be sorry.

@@jelle-rj2ku Literally. There is no scarcity in any modern product, just a limited number of sellers. When that changes, and it will, who's going to buy all that cardboard? I'm not against buying and collecting and investing in Pokemon, I just don't like to lose money when there are better ways in this hobby to stay in without getting cratered. Modern is overpriced and overowned. Vintage is undervalued and out of favor.

I wish someone that was good at statistics would actually break this down. eg. 9.7 billion cards printed, we know that only 1 of the 10 cards is a rare or better = 97,000,000 and maybe 1 out of 6 of those are ultra rares = 16,169,900, 1 out of 72 packs (2 booster boxes or 720 cards) might be an alt = 135,800 alt arts. How many sets were printed in that time span (9 sets)? Is that 15,088 alt arts per set? If every alt art was printed the same in each set and only 5 exist in the set. Is that (3,017 of each artwork)? The real rarities will start to make more sense. But math is is hard. It's also hard to guesstimate with all of the different rarities and pull rates. But, I think it is clear Pokemon prints too many bulk filler cards and packaging is obnoxious. They could cut this down card printing by half if only 5 cards per pack. Too much waste. :P
@elvistcg
@elvistcg Жыл бұрын
9.7 billion means nothing. Pull rates are adjusted and even out of reach for top cards. Majority of people in this hobby have 1 copy at best of their favorite card and likely none of the latter favorites. Graded pop is nowhere near what demand is either.

If you just want to play the game or grab a few card arts you like and put them in a binder, this is great news. If you like to collect and own things that not every single other person can get their hands on unless they have unlimited resources - it's nightmarish. If there's an art or two I think looks cool, I'll snag it. But not much printed after 2021 appeals to the collector in me knowing that it's all mass produced "junk" in that regard. The Mona Lisa wouldn't be the Mona Lisa if someone uncovered a Leonardo da Vinci basement filled with 20,000 spare copies that got auctioned off across the globe. Art and aesthetic appeal mixed with popularity will always only be half of the picture. Rarity is a thing. Boomer or not.

Demand for cards was growing before the Logan Paul boom - definitely a lot of genuine interest/demand here. I agree we’re seeing a toooooon of supply now. Just need to look at sword and shield pop reports and compare it to, gee, any other era to see how insane it is lol. There will almost undoubtedly be cool sets and great art in the future. How well will the 2020 era do, with so much more supply? Hold on to your seats boys and girls! Will be fun to see how the dust settles

Really depends on the demographic in my opinion. Are these cards mostly just staying in sealed collections.. if so then the future will be shit. But if it's actually kids playing the game the usual (gen 1 cycle) they stop playing for a decade to grow up and then hit the nostalgia button like millennials have then the future will be bright. But with 2020 boom my bet is most of the cards sold are being stored and sealed (for hopes of a repeat of stars aligning in 10-15 years and retire off their moonbreon) but with over printing I don't see any modern card from here on out getting to base set levels ever.

Yeah, Logan wasn't the main reason. He fuelled it but people seemed to have a general urge to get back into it, as did he. The lockdowns did something to us. I decided myself to try the new Vivid Voltage set after not collecting for nearly 18 years and the guy in the shop said 'we're sold out because of Logan Paul', and I thought 'Oh, the laughs at suicide guy??'. Suddenly I discovered that Pokémon craze had hit full speed without me even realising. I couldn't have been the only person who decided to jump back in of their own accord. Logan isn't the house-hold name the internet believes he is, especially not in 2020.

I got back into it slightly before the Covid Lockdowns, so I can attest to that. Logan did just fuel it, but adults that grew up with it wanted their memories and good times back.

99% of cards printed these days are 9/10. Grades should be almost meaningless. But somehow people will pay 5x/10x the price for a card in a plastic case with a 10 printed on it. Grade companies are just making bank right now and charging insane prices for no reason

On top of that, pokemon printed 9 billion cards in 2021, so nearly 20 billion cards in just 2 years. And probably 80% of those cards are now sleeping in those "investors"'s closets. So once the price goes high enough to take profit, everybody starts selling at the same time and the market crashes, and the current modern cards ( sword/ shield, perhaps even sun / moon, and everything thereafter)will die forever and the idea of "making money on pokemon is easy" will be gone, and the popularity will fall off a cliff. Whatever modern sets after that crash might be something good to hold on to. But current modern cards are only for collection and enjoyment. And I'm here for it :)

See how many are still in good condition after the crash. That'll be what determines the rarity level in the future. Not for everything, like an energy or something else low tier, but definitely ultra rare or better. Certain promos. I'm at the point where I can be patient with a majority of cards, but sealed and top tier is still very much a safe bet imo

@SpicyRancher
@SpicyRancher Жыл бұрын
The only bubble I see popping is for Japanese waifu cards. Their value is from buy outs and sitting on controlled product making artificial scarcity. Already happened with some Lillie cards. Everything else seems normal and TPC itself seems more intent on “increasing” pull rates with trainer galleries and illustrator rare spots which feels good for your average consumer such as kids and lay people. The “true” rare cards will probably always be Japanese exclusive promo and trophy cards. Secret rares will have their place in the middle like usual.

This is an exciting time for the hobby, with much more to offer everyone from players to sealed collectors and everyone in-between. 🥰 It’s nice to see the general public doesn’t scoff at Pokémon hobbyists like they used to. One thing I believe is an underappreciated consequence of the Logan Paul & Pokémon GO! phenomenon (what an amazing craze to witness!), is that many of the people who came into the hobby at that time have remained, so a lot more people are having fun in the Pokémon community~ engaging with each other more than ever because there’s a kind of stigma that has been lifted. The curse has been lifted. Nobody is too cool for Pokémon anymore. 😎 People who thought it was silly of me buying Pokémon cards over the years are asking me questions about Pokémon like I’m some sort of expert, and when I connect dots for them on the simplest things it’s neat to see the awe in their eyes, like, “why didn’t I know about this sooner?”. 🥲 I imagine you’ve dealt with this for a long time, I hope it brings you similar amusement. 😅
