Great video, we got a Sony DLP in 2007 and got 15 years out of 2 OEM lamps. The last replacement lamp blew in 10 months. Blown lamp and housing had signs of overheating so we knew it had to be dust or debris in the fans. Watched your video and sure enough ours had 15yrs worth of dust. It's all clean now and the picture is amazing. Thanks again great content!

bigdog8882, this worked like a charm. I cannot believe it. We have a 65-inch Mitsubishi, and we usually replace the lamp every two years or so. This time, the lamp failed after about five months. After looking at your video, I opened up the back cover and couldn't believe the chunk of gunk in there -- yuck. I cleaned it with a vacuum cleaner, two cans of air compressor and a small toothbrush -- just as you demonstrated -- and lo and behold, our big TV is back working again. Thank you so much. God bless you. Hitting the subscribe button right now ...

Thank you Very Much for your video! I've recently had a problem w/ my projection lamp shutting off within 8-10 minutes of turning on my 2006 Samsung DLP 67" TV. After the lamp shut off, the "Timer" and "Lamp" lights on the On/Off button would flash; if I restarted the TV, the lamp would then shut off within 2-3 minutes. I replaced the lamp w/ a new OEM lamp for the second time in 13 years, but the new lamp continued to function Exactly like the previous one: shutting off within 8-10 minutes, then shutting off 2-3 minutes if I turned the TV on again. After watching your video, I took out my home vacuum cleaner, attached the upholstery-drapery tool (with soft bristles) to the hose, and vacuumed all the open grates on the back side of the TV (they'd gotten clogged with dust). BIG DIFFERENCE: the projection lamp now shuts off about 10 minutes after starting the TV, but when I restart the TV with the "Timer" and "Lamp" flashing, the lamp stays on indefinitely. My theory: the dust clogging the grates was causing the operating temperature of the projection lamp to overheat and trigger the lamp shut off. I'll next follow your video's procedures for pulling out the assembly that includes the projection lamp and fan, and vacuum all dust in the area of the lamp and the fan cooling it. Hopefully this will solve the lamp shut-off problem completely.

Great thing about these Dlp's is that, one can find them anywhere! On the side of the road, people give'm away or one can buy'em for like $20 or so! People throw them out cuz' they don't know anything about them or because they just don't want to bother. Win win for someone like me! I come across them all the time!. I would definitely roll them outside and then blow them off. I once made the mistake of blowing them off in my shop and I was sneezing for hours afterwards... Honestly, I think Dlp's are great looking tv's. Nice and sharp!

I had to do a light chip replacement (what a PITA!), and at that time had blown out the fans, didn't even think about it - there was dust when I cracked the case so took care of it and have killed 3 bulbs in the last 9 months - doy, right? I will clean them boogers before my next lamp shows up and do so every time I have to swap. Thanks bigdog!

I have a 73 mitsu dlp from 2009. model wd 73737. I have probably changed my bulb every year. My t.v. is on probably 90% of the day, there seems to always be someone watching it and you do not want to turn this t.v. on and off liberaly. I save my bulb by dimming it before i turn it off. What I mean is I put the picture mode into another mode that I have set with very low brightness and contrast. Then I turn it off. When you turn it back on the bulb will not be as stressed and therefore is less ap to pop or bust. Give it 5 min. then put the picture mode up to preference. I also put a tiny air cleaner near the back of the stand closest to the bulb. After a while no matter what it will have to be relamped for the best picture. That was just a tip if anyone wants to use it. THE PROBLEM I have is the picture is not as crisp and I pretty sure It needs to have the mirror cleaned or the inside of the screen cleaned. Problem is I am someone who thinks if it ain't broke don't fix it. IS THERE ANY TUTORIALS ANYONE HAS SEEN? OR ANY ADVICE?

I bought my 65' Mitsubishi WD-65735 DLP tv in Jan 2009 and it's still going strong. I'm on my 3rd bulb for a tv about to be 9 yrs old. I'm retired. I had Directv now have Verizon Fios and I watch this tv around the clock for days because of what I pay. First bulb went out I was charged $100 for the visit and $100 for the lamp. After the 2nd one blew I went on youtube and learned how to change the bulb in 5 mins! I have 3 other smaller flat screens and want a new '65 4k tv but I'm waiting for this one to conk out. It has died 3 times with no picture, no sound and no green light and has revived itself each time. The last death watch when the screen froze with a blizzard pattern the week of black Friday 2016. It again rose from the dead and last week was 12 full months that this tv has been going strong since then. I just knew I'd been getting a new 4k tv this year but once again nope. I can't even give it away to family. No one has the room. (lol)

Nice video. I'm aware of the age of this video, but I'm going to ask a few questions anyway in hopes that you respond with some more helpful information. I own an HL-S5687W and have been looking for a video with some tear down instructions. This is the closest I've found so far. My issue is that I see dust/dirt on the picture on the edges of the screen. Is it possible for the interior of the screen to get dusty/dirty? If so, is it ok to clean it (tear down even more of the tv to gain access)? Or am I just seeing a very dirty mirror that needs some major cleaning? My set was mfd in Dec 06. I have only ever replaced bulbs in it (maybe 3 or 4 so far). It's never been serviced by anyone professional. It's never been cleaned inside. I think it's time I get in there and clean it really well. But I don't want to go through all interior cleaning only to still see dust on the inside of the screen. And I don't want to ruin my screen by trying to gain access to it, if it's not likely to need a cleaning on the inside of the screen. Thank you for your time and response.

Yeah, just check the lamp plug; pull the lamp out, and put your meter(positive lead) on one of the 2 pins on the plug. Just trick the Tv into coming on by in most cases just holding down the "Lamp Door Switch" & power TV up. FIRST Make sure that U connect the negative lead on your meter to chasis ground (something metal inside of the tv or a known ground point in tv) and not to the other plug, otherwise you will blow your meter up when the tv first comes on. U should get a voltage close to what the lamp is rated at. Usually 125v or more. If that doesnt work just go to the 2 pins on the Ballast where the lamp plug is connected and U CAN check them by putting both your meter leads directly on the 2 pins. Thanks, hope that helps.

I just did it, I have around 380 Vdc coming to the ballast board, but there is not voltage on the pin of the lamp, I think I trick the system because I can hear and see the fan working, but there's no voltage.

I have a Mitsubishi 92" DLP 1080p 3D tv, model WD-92A12. It has recently been starting to whistle, and the color will start flashing purple and green, before it shuts down. Some days I can watch it for hours before this happens, and other days it will only stay on for a couple seconds. The power light will flash once red, then 8 yellows. I press the power button for 10 seconds to reset it, then the TV comes on, but only for about a minute before starting to whistle and the colors changing. I'm not sure what it is, and I'm hoping you could enlighten me.

bigdog8882 Yes sir, you were right. My only problem is finding one. I can't find it anywhere. Mitsubishi Parts won't sell one to me because I'm not a business. I've tried Amazon, Ebay, etc. Do you have any advice?

I don't know how this one looks because they don't show you a picture of the actual Color Wheel, but if you wanna take a chance, this should be the same CW that Your TV uses. Don't know if you posted the correct model #. It also says "No Returns". I have the same tv shown in the video. Mine blew a lamp and gave off a burning smell. I replaced the lamp and now it turns on for about 40 seconds and shuts back down flashing the 3 lights in the front. I tried replacing the lamp fan and the temperature sensor (the little circuit board that sits on top of the lamp housing). It still does the same thing. When it turns on, the lamp does light and I get a normal picture on the screen, but it shuts back down after 40 seconds. I thought it could be the ballast but I felt if it was that the lamp wouldn't come on at all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Just make sure that the Lamp door is all the way screwed in, because it is switch activated. If not just jump the door switch. These are known for having bad door switches. But in most cases with this particular model and three flashing led's usually means a bad color wheel. Especially if you hear a squealing/rubbing sound right before it cuts off.

bigdog8882 The 3 lights on mine normally means that the bulb is bad or the sets overheating. I hope everyone is using latex gloves when handling the bulb, oil from your fingers and hands will fry the bulb.

Hello BigDog, I have a 2005 dlp Samsung tv. I do not have the original remote. How do I reset the timer in reference to my lamp life? I programmed Peel Remote and followed timer reset instructions with no results. Will any Universal remote work on this tv type for the purpose of resetting the lamp life timer? Advanced Thanks
@bigdog88826 жыл бұрын
Hey Darlene, just figure out how to use the buttons on the TV to go through the menu and reset the timer, simple.
@darlenewashington23306 жыл бұрын
bigdog8882 Wow I didn't think of that...I'll figure it out. I may have to change my ballast board, if I run into trouble I'll be in touch..lol...Thank You
@darlenewashington23306 жыл бұрын
Ok I'm getting the same menu I get with the peel remote, and there's nothing about setting the timer. It appears the TV needs to be off and you have to program some numbers in the remote and then turn the TV back on, so I guess I'll buy a remote. I'm going to step back from this for a moment, I'm feeling frustration...I'm going to break something!

The lamp timer really has nothing to do with the Lamp life. Why are U trying to set it anyway? Do U keep getting a message that pops up or what?

bigdog8882 Hey, I purchased a new $80 lamp it made a sizzling sound and it will not come on.The company that I bought the lamp from ask did I reset the timer...this person said the timer should be reset every time you replace a lamp.

The reason DLP chips fail is because the factory puts the minimum amount of heat sink compound between the chip and the heat sink. There's about a dimes worth of heatsink compound and as old as the DLP televisions are the compound does dry up at a certain point, so anybody who hasn't serviced their TV and still has one of these would be doing themselves a favor if they, during cleaning, remove the heatsink and put on some fresh compound about a quarters worth.
@EriBarr2 жыл бұрын
Would I be able to use the same compound that I used for my ps4? Lol I had an issue with it turning off and took it apart. Dot had a thick layer of dust.. imagine the thickness of the lint from a drier screen lol.. put it back together and it wouldn’t start.. I panicked until I was told about the compound.. put some on and it works good as new

@@bigdog8882 thanks man yea never buy a cheap bulb i learned that it smelled like burning plastics .so i took the bulb from my 73 inch the fan in the back seems slow not like at max speed is that natural ? when i look in i cleaned all 3 fans the wheel fan the DLP fan and the one straight in the back there like new now but i was wondering do they just have low speed and adjust to load ? or is it cause if it was on high it would cool to fast and blow ?

I have a samsung hl-s4266w. I just took it apart and cleaned it. The bulb turns on for a few seconds and then it shuts itself off. The power button then reads "lamp" in green and "stand by/temp" in red. Does that indicate I need a new bulb? Or something else?
