I spent my career in the military and was always physically fit, I 100% believed what I was told that as long as you expended more calories than you consumed it didn't matter what you ate. I would have laughed at anyone who fasted or even recommended it, I would have thought they were an idiot. Then I turned 50 and no matter what I tried I just kept putting on weight, a lot of us just accept the middle age spread as inevitable but on my final medical in the military I tipped the scales at 102.5kgs. I hate to say it I was ashamed, I could still run etc but I just hated being 102.5kgs. So after watching a lot of these types of videos I thought what do you have to loose....apart from some weight. So I started the low carb high fat diet with intermittent fasting. I was doing 16/8 but also throwing in the occasional 18/6, 20/4 and then a full day fasting just to mix it up as some recommend. That was only 6 weeks ago and I am down 15kgs and feel so much better. I don't know where this takes me I just feel better than I did physically and mentally. I think my ideal weight in my head is 85kgs as I am quite muscular so I'm not sure what happens when I reach that weight. I do know I am so pissed off that we have been lied to for so long by governments and medical professionals in regards to our health. If you are thinking about it just give it a go, I am definitely considering a 5 day water only fast just to see what happens.

@Barney Barnes - My understanding is that a low carb and non-processed foods dietary regime allows the body to find an optimal balance. This will likely mean that stored body fat that is excess to the optimum will be burned off, and if you are eating plenty of protein and doing resistance exercise, muscle will also build to optimum level. I believe the upshot is that you could loose fat-weight to a certain level but then put on muscle-weight. My own experience of going low carb/non-processed/zero grains is just that. I see far greater definition in the muscles of the body now after 9 months. So my starting point was 83kg, went down to 73kg, and seem to be settled at around 77-79kg and feeling in fine condition. As it happens, my motivation for adopting a dietary change was not to lose weight nor to put on muscle - but these have been bonuses beyond just feeling better and having knee joints that are no longer troublesome. For someone in their mid-60’s I can vouch for this all being very heartening. I have been a follower of Dr Mason’s presentations for some while and the information he provides has been very helpful.

My game changer is an intermittent 16/8 fasting and low carb diet. No soda, alcohol, sugar, wheat flour, juice, sweets, basically anything is restricted, which can blow your sugar level to the sky, down from 95 kg to 75 kg. And the essential thing is mental clarity. I feel so better now like never before!

I'm no expert but the fasting people recommend adding a little fresh lemon juice, pink salt and potassium of some kind to your water to keep your electrolytes up while on long fasts. The Snake Juice diet guy explains it pretty well, although he is very in your face about it.

I had a similar experience. I started at 162 lbs, went down to 148 lbs within the first 4 weeks. Then the weight loss slowed down, and now (after about 5 months) my body seems to have found its balance at about 137 lbs. Also: Don't forget about all the other changes. In my case, TG went down and HDL went up, both significantly. Blood pressure went down to about 105 over 70, something I had never seen before. And sleep quality got so much better.

I’ve been a type 1 diabetic since 1970. I was on atorvastatin for years when it was available only as full-price Lipitor here in the USA. Perhaps fortunately it seemed to have no effect on me whatsoever: lipid numbers didn’t change, no side-effects that I noticed. I haven’t been on any statin for over 20 years. I shocked an NHS doctor on a visit to England in 2018 when I went to a walk-in clinic for a minor injury: he was horrified because I wasn’t on any statin. I lied and said I’d get my doctor to prescribe one when I got home to Florida: he really seemed shaken to his core by my reckless way of life. Every endocrinologist I’ve had worships carbohydrates more than any religious person I’ve known worships God. It’s bizarre. I’ve never had good care from any endocrinologist or diabetes educator, ever.

Yes, I get the same nonsense from my doctor. I say my doctor, but I've never actually set eyes on him; our only conversation was by telephone some three years ago, when the diabetic nurse left the practice. That was when, he stopped my prescription for test strips because I was not on any medication, had put my diabetes into remission, and refused to take a statin. Omg! He was horrified, and more or less told me I'd be dead by nightfall. When I tried to explain that the test strips were the very reason I was able to control my blood glucose and insulin, well, I could have sworn I could hear him chanting 'la la la'. I'm sure if I'd mentioned intermittent fasting or LCHF, he would have had me sectioned.

Thank you, Dr. Mason. No wonder I"m always battling doctors. I am hypothyroid and one put me on a statin over 20 years ago. After my own research, I dropped that like a hot potato. My cholesterol went up when my thyroid got super sluggish, direct correlation, which is why they put me on a statin. Now and for the last eight months or so, I eat a mostly ketogenic diet, two meals a day, extended fast period every day and have lost all the 50 lb gained pre-discovery of my rogue thyroid (had lost all but 15 lb before I went protein and almost no carbs), plus after breaking my leg and laying in bed and getting around in a wheelchair for over a month, I lost 9 more pounds and have a normal BMI. My holesterol on the low dose statin was 187. My recent test read 210 and not terrible on the LDL, good HDL, not a number I'm concerned about, knowing what I know now. My new physician, really a practical nurse, just said with diet and exercise not to let it go higher, BUT diet and exercise never affected it when I was trying to control it before they put me on a statin. I'm a very healthy 65 yr old woman living on a mini farm with my disabled veteran husband. We grow a lot of our own food, raise chickens for eggs and natural fertilizer, get lots of fresh mountain air and sunshine. My immune system is like iron, never had the flu that I recall, never got a flu shot. Doctors don't want to even recognize the importance of a strong immune system, in my experience. Had a doctor once literally call me pigheaded when I refused a shingles vaccine and said I would research it further. I'm done being bullied by doctors who only want to push statins and vaccines.

I am a type one diabetic and my insulin requirements kept rising over the years till I was taking 450 to 500 units of insulin a day. I finally tried the keto diet and I lost 100 lbs in six months. I then ignored medical advice and continued with a low carb diet but a more reasonable diet for me and I have not gained any weight back in two years. My insulin requirements went down with the weight loss till I am now using 60 units of insulin a day and I may have to lower that as A1C was 6.0 again this last test. I also have bad reactions to statins and every time I see a Dr they want me to try taking them again. I have tried several different ones and have even given some a second chance but my new Dr suggests I try again. I have a 38% chance of having a heart attack (Dr estimate) within 10 years but I am stoked by my results I can tell you. I am 68 years old and a real person not a study.

Well done Mark. 450 to 500 U/day seems a lot. I, also type 1, am on about 30 U/day total insulin on low carb and find it much easier to control blood sugars compared to when I was eating the recommended way. My cholesterol levels were high, but based on my triglyceride:HDL ratio (mentioned in another of Dr. Mason's videos titled 'Blood tests on a ketogenic diet - what your cholesterol results mean'), I am low risk. Luckily my endo isn't forcing me to take statins because my CAC score was zero. He seems a bit more on top of these things than some other doctors.

Another very very important not discussed is the effect of beta blockers on insulin resistance. The evidence is very clear...take METROPOLOL for eg....this medication is used to treat blood pressure.. but it causes significant insulin resistance as does ATENOLOL. There are other alternatives which should be used instead like should...CARDEVILOL which actually has been shown to reduce insulin resistance. Why are doctors not understanding this very simple but crucial component to the health of their patients. The older beta blockers combined with a mod to high carb diet can be bad especially if you have diabetes. This is significant as the top 5 most prescribed beta blockers in the world include...atenolol and metropolol!! This is very serious in the grand scheme if we are to take metabolic disease seriously.

I used to get night cramps and sore painfull legs I was telling a friend he asked if I was taking statins he asked me to stop taking them for just two weeks so I did three days later the night cramps disapeared and no more pain in my legs now I get my blood checked every month for kidney disease and I asked has my cholesterol went up or down and was told it was the same no change besides actually feel better all round I’ve never taken them statins for six months now I’m not suggesting this will work for you but it did for me I asked the pharmacist about it he told me after you get to seventy they are not beneficial in most people when on holiday in Scotland I asked all my mates how many were taking statins and was surprised none were and it seems every one is on them in Canada go figure

My doctor was incredibly impressed with my keto weightloss, improved blood pressure and general wellbeing. But then recommended a low fat diet because my HDL had increased.
@edennis85782 жыл бұрын
HDL is the desirable cholesterol. Why on earth would a sane doctor try to get you to decrease your HDL? That's crazy.

Happy Dogg fasting , fasting and more is the key . The longest fast I have done is 8 days . In my experience of fasting, the best is alternative day fasting as it’s non The doctors play a game in which they try to get you on meds for as long as possible- then the other game ( for the patient ) is to get them reduced and them off them . Of course much to the doctors dismay . The doctors refer to BP, blood sugar and cholesterol as the ‘ holy trinity ‘ of meds . Fasting will get a patient off these meds ( if caused by lifestyle malady ) in as little as 5-7 months

Thank you Dr. Paul for this most excellent review of the research data. I too have eliminated all Rxs with a low carb, keto-carnivore diet. Quad bypass years ago, life long athlete and gym rat. Keep up your wonderful videos. ~Dr. Phil

Great video and very informative. Please keep the real facts coming out Dr. Paul because people are confused by so much perplexing advice out there. Type 2 diabetic, mostly carnivore here with some low starch veggies. My Doc put me on statins in the beginning (atoravastatin)…horrible. I told him I’ll fix this with my diet as I am a trained Chef. It worked.

Five years ago I went LCHF with 50% of my calories from saturated fat. I lost 60 pounds. I wake up at half past three every day, ready for work. At age 54 I feel like a champ!

How much are the kick-backs they receive - just like the vets who promote a 'complete' dog and cat food. That's the question you should be answering. My husband (in the UK) was bullied and threatened by a doctor from our practice just this week to take statins. He was completely over the top, not the sort of behaviour from someone who was just wanting to do the best for his patient - it was much more determined and incentivised for that. It's a scandal.

Hey Dr. Mason, I'm an intern starting to practice medicine. Is there a way I could access a list of all your sources to back up decision making with patients in my practice? Thank you!

Dr. Paul, thank you!! Question: What are healthy blood values? For all the markers of interest, for heart, liver, kidney, etc? I have been looking for e.g. Omega 3, 6, 9 values, but can't find information. I know that the reference lab values (min, max for 95% of population) are not about health, but just give a snapshot of the current population, change over time and sometimes just seem wrong.. Could you spend a video on this? All the best from the low countries 🙏🏻

Check out Professor Brian Peskin. He was a lone voice in the wilderness saying this stuff for twenty years. Now doctors are catching on. He goes by the science not funded studies. Look up the book PEO’s on Amazon. He coined PEO which is Parent Essential Oils. Proper balance of Omega oils to take 🙏

Alright Dr Paul. I’ve got one for you that doesn’t seem to respond well to food or metabolic health! Restless Leg Syndrome! I am a very very severe sufferer and have been experimenting with food for 3 years now. The condition has stopped progressing but hasn’t started to reverse itself. I’m convinced that it’s a receptor, dopamine, serotonin, related condition so please tell how food can assist in regulating these chemicals.

I hope you apply the same critical thinking to the Covid vaccines, particularly claimed absolute vs relative benefits. Rigorous analysis of the benefit/risk for children & the record adverse reactions should give every physician pause.

I wish you were my doctor. I’ve had terrible experiences with unenlightend doctors that still believe LDL is bad and only statins can save you. My hope is that one day in the future we’ll have enlightened doctors and carbs are seen as bad with appropriate medications to manage carb addiction.

01:00 LDL-C the highest cholesterol level correlates with less mortality: all causes? Because they could die as well as the others but through others factors... ? And don't we have to complete the sentence by "the highest LDL-C correlates with less mortality-risks ... as long as the level keeps under a given threshold ? Interested in those Points because my LDL-C is 276 mg / Dl (familiar dyslipidemia. Age 66. Bmi: 19,5 - Diet: organic real food. Low carb.) No clue how I might help and whether I have to help.. i do worry. in Europe which doctor could really help ?

@Paul Mason What I want to know what should the normal range be for cholesterol because I have low cholesterol with Total Cholesterol at 135mg/dL with estimated HDL 65mg/dL and estimated LDL 60mg/dL without ever being on a Statin. So I have an increased risk for depression and hemorrhagic stroke which both run in my family. Second question is how do I naturally increase my cholesterol?

August last year I WAS 122kg my doctor performed a bunch of tests including cholesterol, he said my level was “envyable” being vegan is his only explanation. Now after almost 6 months I’m more than 20kg down due to low carb & weight training 5-6 days per week.
