The bug has nothing to do with the Attention Awareness setting, which has been a setting for years now (do turn it off though as it does lower the volume of the alarm clock considerably if you look at the screen while the alarm goes off!). I do happen to know what the issue is though: This bug even occurs if you have Attention Awareness turned off and occurs **whenever you set multiple alarms**, basically if you let the initial alarm ring and then don't press the Snooze button before the second alarm starts, that second alarm and any one past that will not make a sound whenever you finally hit the snooze button for the first one. It has happened for many months now and it has taken me months to figure it out because I'm always half asleep when it happens, I put in a ticket with Apple about a month or two about it though, good to hear they're working on it

My iPhone alarms have not been working consistently since roughly 2017. There were many times where I would wake up to my phone being hung on the alarm screen for hours after the alarm was meant to go off with absolutely no audio whatsoever, blocking other notifications and phone calls. It has persisted across newer iPhone models and I can't see it stopping anytime soon.

My alarms seem to go off like clockwork during waking hours, but the last few months (at least) I’ve been oversleeping so much that I’ve had to rely on family members, who I know are awake early, to call me on mornings I absolutely have to be awake by a certain early time. I thought it was due to my low ringer volume, so I turned on the “change [ringtone and alerts] volume with buttons” setting so I can quickly crank the system volume before I go to sleep, but even that didn’t seem to work. I chalked it up to turning the alarm off on my watch, either unknowingly or accidentally when I meant to snooze it, so I turned clock notifications off on my watch so I can’t accidentally brush the watch face and turn the alarm off or whatever was happening. When that still didn’t help, I thought for sure I was turning it off in my sleep, maybe fully asleep and turning it off or accidentally hitting ‘cancel’ when I meant to snooze it, so I set my phone out of reach of my bed. When that still did nothing, I considered it was maybe a bug with conflicting alarms, like one alarm going off and overlapping with the next alarm and the two canceling each other out, so I made a concerted effort to space alarms out to go off within the nine min snooze and outside of the nine min snooze to prevent two or more alarms from going off at the same time and still nothing…

that explains why sometimes my alarm just wouldn't go off at all, but when iOS 16.2 happened all alarm related bugs appeared to be fixed and that was the time that I had decided to stop updating my phone because I really didn't feel like letting apple change things that didn't need to be changed, so I did and have been on 16.2 ever since, but even with the insecurities and possible slow downs this would cause, I still find this the better path against letting it update and possibly creating more problems than they solve, the later features they add aren't really that exciting anyways so for me, it makes sense to take this path

I've never had an iPhone but I've had several Samsung phones and all of them sometimes failed to sound the alarm. I'd get a "missed alarm" notification, which should be literally impossible since the alarm keeps going indefinitely until I turn it off. Very often the same thing happens when someone calls me (I'm talking like 25% failure rate, reproducible on multiple Samsung phones - it's bad). The last time I had a phone with an actual working alarm and working phone calls was a Nokia brick way back in the day.

That's why I have a backup alarm clock; I mean a real physical backup clock. When I use my phone as an alarm clock for work, the backup clock is set to go off 15 minutes later, just in case. If the phone wakes me up, I just turn off the backup clock. As a bonus feature, the backup clock has a physical alarm on/off switch and a physical alarm set indicator. Even though it is a radio controlled (the time is always accurate!) digital clock, you have to move a physical switch to turn on the alarm, and when you do, a red indicator is visible so you know for sure that the alarm is set. Moving this switch back is the only way to really turn off the alarm. You can just press the big alarm button on the top, but that is only a sleep button, so the alarm will be silent for 5 minutes before it goes off again. Only moving the physical switch back to the off position will actually turn off the alarm. The price of this alarm clock was about $25 and so far it has only gone off twice, but that means it has saved me from oversleeping twice.
@Epic_C6 ай бұрын
I think it is issues with the attention aware thing as mentioned. In my case sometimes I'd be sleeping with it on its side overnight and it could be potentially pointing at my face and I think when the alarm went off, it saw my face and silenced itself.

My alarm does always go off but for a few days in a row it didn't wake me up because it was silenced. It wasn't even silenced by the silence switch but in the sounds thingy in settings I had 'change with buttons' on so instead of lowering my volume it lowered my notification sound volume. Even off silent it wouldn't make noise but then I turned off the setting and turned my sound back up. That did fix it but I think it's stupid to even have that feature.
