I certainly most agree with your presentation of merino wool. People here in the Philippines don't understand why I choose merino wool for my socks and undershirts, and I tell them the reasons you have mentioned. I was hooked on it many decades ago when my late grandmother gave me several sets of merino wool socks, and since then, I never turned back.

Great video! I actually bought a merino wool shirt when I was in Vienna. I can agree they aren't very durable. My merino wool shirt started showing wear and tear after wearing a relatively light backpack. Love the material, just wished it was a little more durable! I might have to try another brand to see if it is a little better :-).

look for merino fabrics that have nylon "corespun" fibers for durability. Check Icebreaker online. They use blended merino fabrics.

I hear merino wool's strength and durability improve when it's washed gently and not too often, line dry, don't steam or iron (very wrinkle-resistant so doubt it'd need it), heavier weight versions instead of lighter weight, and optionally blended with stronger fabrics.

I own several merino wool items, I personally don't believe woolly is of the highest quality. I own two pairs of Woolly boxers and they wear out more quickly than my Merriwool layers and my Icebreaker boxers. My SmartWool and minus33 Merino wool t-shirts have held up exceptionally well.

Merino always develop holes especially in the buckle area.

My shirts are just now starting to get holes in that area. They also seem to be getting worn around my shoulders -- probably from wearing a backpack all the time.

Great topic! I'll have to check these brands out and throw some support your way. I have a bunch of Icebreaker shirts and they are great in Mexico's humidity. I don't recommend their underwear but their socks are ok. I live in the Texas Panhandle and the shirts are also great for our hot dry weather and the cold winter months. I work on a ranch and also do carpentry and the only wear issues I've had are from snagging things, the Velcro on my toolbelt and just wearing down because they didn't mention that you aren't supposed to use detergents with enzymes in them. Those detergents are the ones you get at health food stores.

Nope ! Go to REI coop and get some exofficio T-shirts and underwear ... I have a bunch and in sunny 105F in Austin Texas ... They are above the price range but when it comes to quality , they deliver it all the way.. I can travel with three pieces of underwear and a bra and feel comfortable: I can wash in the bathroom and it’s ready to wear in the morning .

Hi ! is it dry fast as Polyester ? & what about Merino wool pants, underwear or socks ? worth it too ?

I don't think it dries as fast as Polyester, but it does seem to be more comfortable (to me). For some reason, I feel like synthetic materials tend to retain odors more than merino wool. I haven't personally tried merino wool pants, underwear, or sock, but it might be worth it!

I would say yes to both questions. However, I've still managed to wear my grey merino wool shirts in desert environments and still feel comfortable. 😎

It's a good question. Unfortunately, I don't own any hemp clothing, so I can't really say. I have a new Tilley hat that has some hemp woven in and I really like it. The fabric does seem to "breathe" very well. 👍

Thanks Jeremy! The leather backpack is the Staad backpack from WaterField Designs. It's really nice, and I use it as my "professional" backpack when I work with clients. It doesn't have nearly the capacity of my other travel backpacks, but for work and conferences, it's great! 😊

That's definitely the weakest aspect of merino wool clothing. I've noticed that the material seems to wear down much faster when I use a backpack. Though none of them have developed a hole yet, which is good. 👍

@@TripAstute its the friction where the bag came into contact that caused piling, however i guess it depends on the merino manufacturer itself, i noticed certain brands and blends isnt affected, or atleast not yet lol. I've been buying more merino wool and hunting for discounts and try out every brand thats available to my budget ever since my first one. I dont even know why im doing that, maybe i just like the smell lol.

Yes. Both shirts recommend machine wash cold with like colors. The Woolly shirt recommends to tumble dry low or hang dry. The Olivers shirt recommends to lay flat for drying. 😊

Yes Merino Wool can be washed in the washing machine in cold water on the delicate cycle. Do not put Merino Wool in the dryer. Lay flat to dry or hang to dry. Merino drys quickly. I highly recommend the Unbound Merino as they have men's and women's clothes. I prefer Unbound Merino to Woolly Merino Clothing. Unbound is softer than Woolly.

just a big ripoff for all merino Ts for over 50$ each , i just buy 10 mountain warehouse Ts for 8$ each on sale instore SPF 50 dry-fit quick dry for laundry and very derable, no issues for travel.
