My L405 has spat out so many different types of warnings/alerts/notifications in the last few years so when the UK government issued a red weather alert for Storm Darragh while driving on the motorway near Bristol yesterday, the siren went off through the car speakers. Utter panic set in trying to figure out what was wrong with the car this time and Range Rover depression set in wondering if the repair will be less than £5,000, until, I heard the alert on the evening news! Only Range Rover owners know that sense of relief when you realise it doesn’t have to go back to the dealership.

Good day LR TIME Team , thanks for sharing , the repairs done on the Queen , excellent diagnosing and repairing and testing . The sensor at the review mirror , is similar to some Freelander 2 vehicles, and it’s called a “ Cabin Humidity Sensor “ , and comprises of 3 individual elements ; 1) Humidity Sensor 2) Air temperature sensor 3) Windshield Glass temperature Sensor . The combined reading of the 3 sensors , reduce the risk of misting on the windshield . This information i got from , Freelander2 repair and wiring diagram .
@jasoneyes01
@jasoneyes01 Ай бұрын
The misting sensor is for automatic humidity and defrost control in HVAC. The diesel heater is a good feature for car camping in cold without running engine. The diesel heater preheats the engine block in freezing weather. Speaking of diesel, running a lubricant in the fuel like Marvel Mystery Oil can prevent wear in the high pressure fuel pump which is expensive and can destroy everything in its path.

Christian, you are not the only one with a Partner who has also complained about feeling drowsy/lightheaded while travelling with me in my Discovery 3. Now that I have watched this video I would say I would need to clean the vents, evaporator, heater matrix (to be replaced anyway as it’s partially blocked 😑) and then like you did carried out the cabin clean with the Ozone Machine (we have one in work), so looks like I’ve really got to do it now because I thought she wasn’t a good passenger in it but now that Vera has complained of a similar issue I have to fix it! I am fine driving my Discovery 3 but I’d be used to a lack of oxygen working with Cars on a daily basis being a BMW Technician. Great watch and a good laugh was had by the pair of us watching, Thank you!!

Christian & Vera Love your video’s My first introduction to Land Rover Series 1 was as a 7 or 8 year old visiting family friends inland Poverty Bay, East Coast New Zealand Aotearoa. Land in that area measured much more than plan view by being very often perpendicular. A bunch of kids being bounced around on those aluminum longways seats in the back was the hugest excitement for this city kid. I never lost a desire to own a 4wd. In 2007 I bought a 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado which I owned until 2023, probably 5 or 10 years longer than sensible ownership. I just enjoyed driving it so much. It had the go anywhere feel even in NZ’s largest city. For some real 4wd adventure come try some of the tracks in New Zealand - if you dare!

Hi Guys, An Aussie here just dropping in to say, I agree with you in every aspect. If you want to own a Rangy, you need to have a deep wallet. These vehicles are magnificent! , BUT they also are prone to having major hissy fits and costing you thousands of dollars when you least expect it. I own a 2008 L320 Sport with 170000k's with the TDV6 ford Lion 2.7 power plant. I have personally forked out over $22000 AUD on it since 2018 keeping it in showroom condition. Yes I could have let all the interior parts fall to pieces but I wanted to keep it as a perfect example of a 300 series RR so I have had it re conditioned to as almost new condition inside and out. Like the L322 it is considered one of the very best Range Rovers ever built. Just a Oil change and oil filter change in Australia is $450 AUD here every 6 months. I am due a timing belt in 4 months time and that will be another $2500 AUD. I always turn it on and wait for the system checks to clear and hopefully no information light telling me something is wrong, with fingers crossed. Bottom line, putting that cost to run aside.......Would I like to trade it for something for reliable like a TOYOTA........your joking right? Nothing comes close to what these vehicles deliver as a driving experience. You literally fall in love with them and then your hooked and your broke for the rest of your life. We are a Range Rover family with a 2017 L494, 2012 L538 Evoque and a 2024 L551 Evoque ,, The family must be suckers for punishment. The L494 airbag light issue harness upgrade was done recenlty and they removed the entire interior to just to install the crossover harness. What a bad design. But as Christian says many times, Land rover do things sometimes in the strangest ways. My dream Range Rover - RRSport V8 supercharged, but not many on the roads over here. Keep up the great videos as they ae most enjoyable as always. And we all know Christian has a Toyota keyring of camera.....lol Smiles for you both from down under and merry xmas and a happy new year!

Arm & Hammer sells a product you add to the windshield sprayer that gets the mildew smell out of the HVAC air intake. We have horrible problems with dew stench in cars here in the Gulf Coast. It's some kind of fungicide additive, and it actually works if you follow the instructions and give the sprayer a squirt with the HVAC full blast set to fresh/outside air a couple times a week. Gets a little down into the AC intake box and kills the mildew

That's very strange. We have got a Chinese diesel heater that worked for a while and then burnt several fuses on the control board. We replaced the board and it had the same issue as yours initially, it only turned on the glow plugs for a couple of seconds and then turned off, but there were no issues with the circuit board. We bought another new controll unit and it has worked perfectly fine ever since. This isn't for a car it is for our workshop but a similar issue.

Hi Christian, Heater/AC smell would have been caused by previous owner - Especially if your not going to use the car for a couple of days be sure to turn off AC (keep fan running) a couple of miles before you park up. New cars / Evaporators have a coating on them that seems to get broken down by repeatedly leaving them parked up wet and once that happens that smell is hard to reduce. I Used to use Dettox ( now sold as Dettol no Odour antibacterial surface cleaner) Works as well as the expensive proffesional HVAC cleaners 😜Obviously Check your condensation Drains also. Some cars suffer bad with this and owners leave the AC on all the time which reduces the smell but makes the whole situation worse.

Hallo Vera und Christian. Please keep an eye on the Queens sunroof drains. The little tubes connect to the sunroof frame rust and break off. Water then drains down the B-pillar and floods the floors under the carpet. The Queen AMP in under the passenger side carpet and will short out. $12,000 repair bill here in the US. Insurance paid for the carpet, headliner, and amp, but not the replacement of the panoramic roof. My 2017 L405 Supercharged had this issue last year after heavy rain..

Usual Sunday service is resumed! Another excellent video. Oh, and I believe that the purpose of the sensor on the windscreen is to ensure that it doesn’t mist / fog up (or more correctly, it is for the vehicle to be able to detect when it is likely to mist/fog up and automatically adjust the ventilation system to prevent this happening). The same system was on late UK D4’s - isn’t it on your Mall-Crawler?

I had a problem with poor air quality in one of my Jaguar XFs a few years ago (2.7l V6). Turned out to be split flexi pipes before the catalysts allowing fumes into the cabin.

_"every time I get a new battery"_ well they are special and expensive and in Australia I don't need all that heating stuff on my D3. Also I got an alternator fail once and it shorted the battery and by the time I could park off the road about 3 Km later it was so hot I needed gloves to remove it. But here is the thing that occurred after I had replaced the original battery with a 20 Ah US made (racing industry) AGM battery. I learned my lesson and installed a 400 amp fuse and 500 amp relay connected to the ignition power between the battery + and the alternator starter. But you know my new 20 Ah AGM battery recharged and is in my wife's Toyota Corolla and it s working fine. Oh I forgot to say my 20 Ah AGM batteries have a bank of 6 x 2v 500 F supercapacitors in parallel which can deliver the starting amps. But you know the relay also cuts out the 300 mA current drain through the alternator when the car is parked and locked! Which of course is one reason they fit a huge 90 Ah battery in the first place. Do you know what this 300 mA is doing? I have since added a second 18 Ah AGM battery to increase the capacity when I am towing my caravan on a sunny holiday to one of our fantastic beaches.

The Range Rover and many other Land Rovers have a high drain because the ECU wakes up often to check things. Basically if not used, the bat is drained after 2-3 weeks. Disconnecting the bat is no option because it requires various programming actions after power up. Like window learn, clock and date, etc. Too much electronics in these cars. The queen has two batteries to prevent draining till dead.
