Hi Rich. Thanks for an interesting video. Different thicknesses of material are a real problem, especially after I have enlarged my machine to 370mm X 850mm. Measuring the edges of such large plywood pieces with calipers renders a whole array of measurements. To cope with this problem I choose one average measurement. When assembling I always do a dry trial first and wherever needed I use a delicate tiny file to correct tabs and/or slots. On large projects, as I do lately, there is no real hope for dry fits so glue comes in handy also for filling tiny gaps that remain. There is also the problem of the kerf being a different one on the x any y axis. With the kind of plywood sheets we get, I find that there really is no whole solution for the problem. All the best. Emanuel

Hi Rich. the tip about leaving room for overscanning was great. For this project, besides adjusting the width of the slots, the depth of the tabs needed adjusting for my wood or else they would protrude beyond the bottom of the base.
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Жыл бұрын
Good point Steve! And for this simple project, I would just do a fast node edit, drag across the bottom nodes and slide them up a bit. 10 second fix... the easiest way.

Rich, another awesome resource you have provided for us thank you! Perhaps it doesn't matter but how does the size of the kerf of the laser play into this? Since they are all a little different and like a saw, takes away material. Thank you again for another awesome resource!

thanks for the video, the worst part is none of the kerf methods and tips don't solve the problem in "mass production", it can only be solved with glue... cause even in one piece of wood, the thickness would be different in different parts! and other elements affect it either like the balance of the laser cutter's table, the lens's cleanliness, the focus of the head and....

You don't use a kerf offset. That's the beauty of using a feeler gage. It requires nothing more than finding the right slot Steve.

Stick to laser stuff cuz that’s why I joined the channel and the group. I have other channels for 3D printing. I like your stuff for laser and there’s not many who use diode lasers, and a lot of them that do stuff only for CO2 lasers but I have no plans to go to those large machines.

Did you miss all the times Rich talked about what the actual purpose of this video is about? He even stated more than once that the production of this particular item would be covered in another separate video. Having information, even too much sometimes, is better than not knowing what's going on. I haven't done any 3D stuff just yet but since I'm a subscriber to this channel, I've now become aware ahead of time, the caveats it can entail. To each his own....
