I disagree. Ads are manipulative and the smoother they're integrated, the better they work and the less obvious the cut between ad and genuine content becomes. I like ads to be completely divorced from the content and the people in the video.

A Gears and Gasoline vs Speed Academy build off would be dope. Suggestions would be a non traditional, non mainstream car that is still part of the tuner scene. A budget cap of 5k for mods. Budget cap of 5K for cars. Engine needs to be 1.8 liters or less. Edit: formerly (no power adders), now limited to only using components from any production vehicles (an example, swapping out the stock mazda BPT turbocharger for a stock turbo from like a used STI or Evo). Build should be focused around weight reduction, aerodynamic mods, tires, wheels, suspension mods and gearing mods. Parts used for upgrades should sourced from used production cars in junkyards (exceptions should be safety parts, ECU, and non reusable parts like gaskets etc.) Safety components and programmable ECU should be excluded from budget constraints. Drivetrain component swap permitted so long as costs are maintained within the budget constraint and car is safe to drive. Most content is geared towards off the shelf bolt on HP mods so going the opposite route should be fun and a new experience.

1.8 or less? Makes it a honda or Hyundai. Nothing else matters outside of that and Hondas are built literally by everyone. It's over played. How about under 2.5 that opens up the scope a bit more because Ford 2.3, Mitsubishi under 2.5, volvo under 2.5, Honda, hyundai, mazda. They all have cars that can be worthwhile. Under 1.8 is a very tight place that has cool cars.

Agreed - 100% about the more refined/sophisticated approach to cars, as frustrating as they can be to work on and repair or modify. The production value of their videos, the cinematography choices, the on-point music selections, the breadth seen in their philosophy of all-cars, all levels of car enthusiasts [The Fit series ;)] etc. I would appreciate a dump of like 10 different new G&G shirts/varying designs (that aren’t project specific or car specific, but rather straight up G&G), if they see fit, that I could wear. Mugs maybe, hats for sure, hoodies, stickers of course. Additionally, totally random side thought on the thought of this video’s meta: it’d be sick if they one day contracted with Advance/MAP, or whoever, to have various G&G auto parts made (perhaps under a different venture name?) that I could buy. I understand that’d be a massive undertaking, but reason/idea being is two fold; I have learned a lot and enjoy their mechanic-minded/focused attention to the engineering aspect of problem solving and forging for solutions to practical car issues/maintenance/fab. Duh you may say as their channel isn’t just for kicks and giggles in a mindless manner, but I have sure learned bounties simply by watching easy to digest content, which realistic questions and thoughts to address when driving and maintaining my own vehicle. 2nd thing about the idea of a parts brand is if they had a Mark-like employee with them (or Mark himself?) doing the CAD on stuff, that could possibly be a great add’l income stream for them to enjoy their cars that they painstakingly build for longer? Also, what about when they’re potentially ready to ‘retire’ from KZbin, life changes, etc.?

Great honest video of the life of the usual Automotive KZbinr. Unfortunately a lot of it can also swing wildly with ad revenues all over the place depending on the time of the year. Jan / Feb is usually pretty rough! Fortunately for us, KZbin is mostly a driver for the actual physical shop that we are. So yes, we make money off KZbin views, but the keep our lights on and bills payed by the people who come in to have work done. Good luck with the sale!

My biggest gripe with how popular car KZbinrs function with their channels is that they do a build series on a car and then never really drive it when it's finished. Granted we are probably just not seeing them do it, but I personally would like to see them enjoy these builds than see them sitting around in the background collecting dust. Build cars that are meant to be driven and then do it.

I appreciate that you guys do this the way you do, its hard to stomach alot of these youtubers gotten rich off merch sales, some have been doing it for a decade and has millions of dollars in cars and houses and what not and often not doing a lot either... I know I could not do it, that said, selling good quality back packs and hoodies and what not if people end up wearing them, thats not all bad, people will need clothes but I bet a lot of it just get bought and barely if ever used, just to "support" this guy that could not bother getting a real job... I dont have a problem with the content per say or people doing it, but in many cases it gets very excessive, on the other hand, a big part of this is the beast it self, KZbin and how it all works, and I dont think I have a better solution to these "problems" so it is what it is... It's a catch 22 - you spend 3 months building it and another month tuning it and getting all the post build issues sorted - you want to use it and enjoy it, but if you do that, it's not a crispy, brand new build anymore. It starts to accumulate tire wear, bumps/scratches/dings from DD'ing and it only takes a couple of those before it's not a show car/bike anymore. So you end up having to go back and re-do stuff, replace tires, re-paint etc. It essentially turns into feeling like you're perpetually working on the damn thing, which can sour your taste to it.

From a business aspect it makes so much sense. From my perspective as a viewer, the reason I get a little sad about someone selling their car is because I saw the videos seeing the blood sweat and tears going into it, and I know deep down the person wants to enjoy it for a long time and they can't. That's what makes me sad.

Channels like Junkyard Digs are my favorites for how often they get new cars because they are also bringing abandoned cars back to the road then moving them on to people who couldn't get them on the road and only vehicle that standout are kept, makes me wonder about the financial details though because they usually work with pre 80s vehicles so maybe it's easier to keep a collection. Certainly an enjoyable watch because we can vicariously experience their fun times, miss working on cars myself yet I simply had to give away the few vintage cars I owned because of a lack of storage space and needing to move house so often.

I was a little surprised that you didn't mention that one, as it's exactly what Doug is doing with Cars and Bids (which sponsored this video lol) and in my opinion it's the big-brain 4D chess move. Sad to see you have to let it go. I recently had to let go of my 2017 STI as well. Precisely because of the stress of things that can go wrong as the 100k mile warranty was about to expire next month.😢

Throughly appreciate G&G’s transparency on this topic. This side of automotive KZbin isn’t all that complex but falls under the taboo nature of finance. We don’t need to treat it so discreetly and I’m glad G&G is open about how they like to function and keep the content up.

I remember when You Tube's motto was 'broadcast yourself'. Now it's all about 'monetize yourself' It's always about making money in greedy America. I stopped watching corporate television years ago, because of all the ads, and so little good content. You Tube is going in the same direction, always about the ad revenue, not the content.

Without monetization, creating content is not possible long term as everything requires money, it's that simple.

Personally, the best videos on this channel are the road trip ones. It is always good to watch some nice views from a country, that is on the other end of the earth (pretty much literally), in which I would probably would never set foot in.

I’m on my 3rd STI and I get the worry of things breaking down. I had an 04 STI that was heavily modded and was nicknamed Pandora’s Box. I have a 21 STI now with only a cat-back and I don’t want to mod it any further besides cosmetic stuff. Sad to see you let it go but I get it

I love cars. My list of cars i wanna own grows dailey. Buying and selling allows you to do this. At onepoint i owned 6 cars at once. It sucks i cant drive them all at once. And they need to be driven. Also the sheer cost of registration insurance and maintence slows down your ability to enjoy them properly. Ive since dropped down to owning 2 or 3 and its much more enjoyable. Allowing me to save more to spend on future dream cars. Cars are a hobbie and hobbies cost money but hobbies that you can afford are more fun thsn hobbies you cant. Some cars youll miss more than others but ultimately will be glad for the time you had them.

I sold my car on C&B for 93% of my original purchase price, AFTER 3 years of ownership and driving it for 20,000 miles. It’s a great option for anybody with an enthusiast car, especially when you have a desirable spec. The people working there are super nice and helpful, and the community is a great resource. If you have thorough documentation and take great pictures, you’ll have no problem selling. Setting your auction to “No Reserve” is also a killer move that shows off how confident you are in your car’s condition. GLWS, Ben!

It's always fun to build a car as a car enthusiast, but as a car KZbinr, after making videos of the car, you kind of max out the viewers of that type of car and the best thing to do is to move on to another platform to make more videos and attract new audiences.

Glad to see you guys filter out which products you'll promote. A lot of KZbinrs I watch were at one point promoting that crap where you can buy some land in Scotland and be deemed as some sort of lord. Even after this was exposed as being a deceptive scam, some KZbinrs were promoting it after the fact.

There are several reasons why KZbinrs are often seen buying and selling cars. Firstly, cars are a popular topic among viewers and can generate a lot of views and engagement on their channel. Secondly, buying and selling cars can be an interesting and exciting experience, which can make for great content. Additionally, many KZbinrs have a passion for cars and enjoy exploring different models and brands. Finally, buying and selling cars can also be a lucrative business, with the potential to make a profit if done correctly. Overall, the combination of viewer interest, personal passion, and potential financial gain make buying and selling cars an attractive topic for many KZbinrs.
