I’ll be honest, being 40k in for a premium after fees, then another 5-10k in mods to have a car similar to his… not worth imo. Buy a used STI or a CTR stock for that price. Those cars are built to rip off the lot and don’t require the many aftermarket mods, both performance and appearance, that this car needs. Car looks amazing but its not worth that price in my opinion. It needs too much help to have the presence of the aforementioned cars. For the casual daily great car! But the fact that a knowledgeable enthusiast such as Tanner put that much money to make the car livable should say something. Also note, even with a newer Subie, my guy can’t stay away from a GD! Insert clapped out Hawkeye meme here.

This gives me all the "speed" I need for a 40 Year old dad. With your tips I've been watch the last few days I think I will be doing a lot of the body work before I hit some of the really heavy works in performance. So far this video nails everything, some things I am not happy with. Yet like you said, it's a 35k dollar sports car... that holds my kids and is my daily..... Overall this is a win. I love my vb. Stock is still a ton of fun. My only real complaint is the stupid cold start. I've owned a lot of cars, including a Corvette, and not one of them has ever taken as long to come off of high idle. It's super annoying, especially with a manual. Yesterday was cold. I started the car, got it warmed up, and drove off. I got a few miles away and realized I had forgotten something, so I turned around and shut the car off for the minute or so to run in and grab what I forgot. When I got back to the car and started it up, even though the water temp was normal and the oil was up to temp, it still ran through a 30-45 second cold start sequence. It's super annoying. I wouldn't mind it if the cold start/high idle was 15-20 seconds, but every time I turn the car on, it's 30 seconds to a minute or so of pointless high idle. Subaru claims it's to warm the cat for efficiency, but every time? Even when the cat is hot? It's absurd.
@nathanarcher67645 ай бұрын
When car starts, ECU is in Open Loop mode. This mode ignores input from sensors and trims the fuel based on preset instructions. After a while when engine is warm ECU will switch to Closed Loop mode where it will adjust fueling based on input received from sensors. When you blip the throttle during idle warm up period it will tend to trick it into Closed Loop early because it thinks you’re going to drive away. - Taken from Reddit User (TotalWasteman) My input: I have a 2008 Impreza, so far from these newer cars. I'm looking around trying to decide between a Gen4 or Gen5 WRX. Although, on my car the heat shields on the exhaust rattle because of wear and tear only in about a 100rpm range, usually when cold. Doesn't rattle during normal driving so I dont really care tbh, though during startup whenever im trying to figure out what music to listen to, i always blip the throttle immediately (literally the tiniest blip, like 100-200rpm) so it doesn't go into high idle. I have 0 clue how the new computers act and so idk what kind of checks the engine does, I.e. if it will allow you to do that. From what i've read, you should be able to get it to stop after 30 seconds or so. You gotta remember that every time you cycle the ignition, the computer resets just like your computer does, or phone does when you turn it on and off, so whatever instructions are written/coded into the ECU or the brains is going to re start the entire checking sequence the way it was written. Just leave the car running if you're not going to be gone for 30 minutes. Hurting the earth with emission is a myth. We don't hurt the earth with our cars anymore than we hurt God whenever we talk down to others and kill each other.

I have a '22 Premium WRB and I've kept it completely stock. Love the way it looks, love how it drives. Most of my driving is on tight, twisty/hilly backroads, often on really bad pavement or in bad weather, and it's perfect for that. If it had more power I'd never use it. I thought I'd hate the infotainment, but it will be fine once the full screen Android Auto update comes out. Only thing I wish I had gotten were a few more OEM accessories when I purchased it (mud flaps, engine undertray) but overall it's been great other than being a parking lot dent magnet.

Excellent video!! To me it’s mind boggling on some things that had so much potential but came up short like the head unit Android issue. Maybe there will be an app that will fix that in time or a firmware update on the head unit. Also how aesthetically pleasing fenders and tail lights and rear bumpers were on previous WRX and STI generations is also mind boggling how designers didn’t incorporate that in this generation. It would be awesome if the rear didn’t look like a Civic and the fenders didn’t have corners like a stop sign cut in half. Look at the modern Challenger, it’s modeled after a generation 50 years old. Even the recent Mustangs have lines that you can obviously see where its design ideas came from. Stick with your roots designers! But a very very excellent video my friend!! 🙌🏽
@boosTiMon Жыл бұрын
I have an idea that might sound janky but might be pleasing to the eyes. Smoke the tail lights with either film or smoked light paint and find some wrap that resembles the lower rear bumper black and wrap only the back or the car to blend the lights and the lower bumper. All this isn’t permanent but might completely change the look and focal points on the rear.

Nice review. I think the most important thing about this car is how much of a performance bargain it is. My ‘22 Premium was $31,500, and with less than $1500 in mods I can do 0-60 in 3.4s on the Dragy, and I literally gapped a ‘21 Mustang GT 10A (from a dig to 100mph) without using LC. I’m at 380/415 wheel with e60/21psi. At 23.5psi/e85 you should be making well over 400/400wheel. That’s 3s 0-60 and sub 12s 1/4 on street tires territory. It’s very hard to hit that performance without spending a lot more on an STI. It’s also important to note that a >700hp STI is going to cost well over $20k in mods. No one has dropped a built motor/big turbo/big fuel system/STI trans setup into a VB yet, but the parts exist now and I bet it will hit comparable numbers for the same price as a big boy STI build. The future is bright for the platform. You should stick with it and be one of the first to push the envelope. It has the potential to turn into an STI killer.
@Smeedia Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I foresee the VB following suit of the Va WRX. I think R&D will hit a point where there will be no large growth in the platform. I hope im wrong either way that but that’s where I see it headed. The bang for the buck is there in the car. It definitely had a lot of potential in it 🔥

It’s very cheap and easy to make safe power with the FA24 if you have access to e85, which is good because the car has a lot of other shortcomings that you need to spend money on (brakes, catch cans, shifter, mounts/bushings, winter capable tires since it only comes with summer tires, etc.)

Man I guess I'm one of the few.... I actually dig the way the VB looks. Especially when you start to modify them. A guy that works near me has a white one. Looks good IMO. Reminds me of the hate the Evo X styling had in the beginning. Including myself haha (based on pics online). Needless to say I ended up buying one after seeing it in person and driving it.

I bought my 22 VB limited brand new and I love it. The styling doesn't bother me at all. I've been sticking with the OEM+ look as I add to it. Major mods were, Oil pressure gauge, tint, dual catch cans, drivetrain mounts, ETS intake with sleeve, Remark catback muffler delete system, 18x9.5 +35's. Next up will be suspension, and BBK. I daily this, so im looking for around 400hp when it comes time to tune. I love it, I get lots of compliments in my area where there arent many drivin around. She's fun, yet reliable, and I've had zero issues. I track bikes so I dont expect anything crazy from it from a performance to dollar ratio. I tell people to give it a chance and appreciate it for what it is.

I definitely think they have their place and overall as a good fun daily it definitely fills that spot well. The styling is subjective but using the car everyday it has not let me down yet

@Smeedia For sure, and I 100% agree with it being pricy to really change the aesthetics. That's my only complaint buying a brand new gen. It's gonna take some time for us to get a variety of options. I love what you've done with yours. Diversity in taste is what makes the community.

Btw, one of the best Subaru’s ever made (talking about the engine) more reliable than ever, despite everyone likes on the aesthetics of the car, its a very well and fun drive experience. Btw Imo for a daily driver I think its more than enough 275hp I think tuning for power here a daily its a mess that you’ll regret later on, if you plan keeping the car leave it stock, most of the people out there can’t use the full potential of a Subaru (its not for straight roads)

I had 2 WRX models (2012 and 2017), and while I enjoyed my time with them I can't help but feel Subaru barely changes these things. I personally can't get past the cladding, and I don't want to buy a new car and then have to drop another few grand to "fix" the issues. I already did that twice with the past models I had, and don't have the time and money to dedicate to upgrading everything. When I was looking at my next car this was only on the list because of the AWD. Deal breakers for me was that massive screen and the exterior looks. Ended up going with an Elantra N. Similar price, great power and handling. Also has better legroom and trunk space along with a solid exhaust all stock.

Just ordered one today, partly thanks to this review. Been walking around looking at WRX in different trims. So this video came out just in time for me. Decided to go for a CVT, it looks more all-rounded, perfect for our family, and for my wife to be able to drive it too. Only modification I want now is this colored stripe on the steering wheel. Any tips on how to do it with minimal effort are very appreciated 👍 looking forward to getting my hands on it now. Hopefully it all goes well

So, I was wondering what the pros are of getting a CVT WRX over the Legacy XT 🤔. I have an Outback right now and was debating on getting a WRX or not. I would think that the Legacy would be more usable if not having a manual transmission wasn’t a dealbreaker.
@gallivantingsprt Жыл бұрын
@@LongLiveJapan87 I'd say that WRX and Legacy are totally different animals. While WRX is a more individualist car with family capabilities, the Outback is mostly family car which provides the driver with all necessary features. I wouldn't have picked a WRX if I didn't have a decent size family car already. Overall an Outback is a much more versatile family car solution.

I have a Crosstrek and one of the things I like about most all of the modern Subarus is how easy it is to reach everything in the engine bay (aside from plugs lol). Compared to many other brands that shoehorn everything into the engine bay, Subaru fully exposes the front struts, headlights, battery, etc…it’s ALL right there and easy access. On these new WRX vehicles, is Rotella T6 still a thing, or nobody’s really using it much anymore?

This car seems pretty good. I've mostly driven American V8s and previously a 2016 Mustang Ecoboost that was tuned by Ford, before getting the 22 BRZ. I love the handling of the small Subie, but but the lack of space is constantly a challenge. I've been thinking about getting the TR and going with IIR's power packs since it's about that time to get 4 doors. It's a shame Subaru dosen't offer similar dealer installed, and factory warrantied where you can get dealer installed power packs.

I have a 2022 wrx and have had some issues with it. Same problem as you with the radio (screen), did THREE updates and still that day the screen can freeze and stop working for hours. (rarely) I had to change the right window (front passenger) because it was not working properly At 14,000 km the engine struggled to start for 4 seconds, it was summer and it was around 22 degrees Celsius. After this strange situation it never happened again, I did an engine check with Subaru and everything was fine. For the past six months I have been hearing a strange noise in front of the dashboard every time I turn off the car (like a ping pong ball bouncing between the walls) I also had a problem with the high beams opening for no reason And... That's all lol. So electronic rather 4/10 Mechanical (all-wheel drive, handling, suspension, overall performance) 9/10 I got the base model and honestly for 34,000 Canadians dollars, you get a 271 horsepower all wheel drive flat engine...it's a steal Even with my little problems with the car, I don't regret having had it for a single day 💙

I ordered one when they were announced so I’ve had it almost 2 years. I don’t have a ton of miles on it since it’s my 2nd car but my main issue has just been a misaligned creaking windshield in cold weather that eventually got replaced under warranty. Other than that, it’s been fine. I wish the dash didn’t rattle so much. Coming from a GTI that has good interior fit and finish, it’s taking some getting used to. I’ve come around on the cladding and it really doesn’t bother me. I’d still prefer not to have it. I do wish the OEM accessories were a little more affordable though! I haven’t done anything to mine yet but I’d like to.

SItting around 318 WHP and it definitely changes how the car acts and feels. Now it feels like it's actually fast. The only real complaint I have are the seats. I wish they weren't so tight hugging.
