I have read a report that when McQueen was nearing the end in his cancer battle in 1980 that he called Brynner and the 2 made their peace with each other. Supposedly Steve told Yul that he realized that Yul could have had him fired from the movie and apologized for his own bad behavior. Yul was gracious and told him "I am the King and you are the rebel prince. Every bit as royal and as dangerous to cross". Hope the story is true and if it is it's extremely poignant. McQueen would soon die in 1980 of cancer and Yul would do the same 5 years later. Yul supposedly smoked, get this, 5 packs of cigarettes a day. Ugh. And to his credit he insisted a commercial be shown after his death. He told everyone "Now that I'm gone, listen to me: Don't smoke. Ever". Sad.

Wow! I remembered when McQueen died, l was in the 7th grade back in Detroit. And he said his good-byes on the radio station there. My whole family sat through the whole thing, sadden. Til this day, I still enjoy watching the Blob! The remake was terrible though! Nothing like Steve McQueen!

I was privilaged to see Yol Brynner in the revival of "The King And I". He took several curtain calls with the entire cast. For the last one he came out by himself and, after standing for a moment, he thrust his arms wide in the air. The house went NUTS! Great actor.

A classic movie. Steve McQueen and Yul Brunner were both jealous of each, Bad Boy vs Diva and made the film work. The other actors were focus on the movie, they were more professional than the other two. Coburn, Wallach, Bronson, Vaughn and the great actors made the movie a classic to this day. Most of them have passed away and left a legacy on the Western genre. It was remade again and was a good movie as well. A test of egos type of video, RIH to who have passed, Condolences 💐 to their families.

Love the magnificent seven it's one of my favorite westerns. I also loved westworld where he reprised his role of Chris from M7 as an evil robot version of the character. I'll always regret that I did not go to see him when the king and I played Pittsburgh in the early 80's.

Miku - I thought the ads for The King and I stage production were corny, about seeing a legend, but I did see him on stage. I was then shocked when he passed away a short while later. I didn't even know he was sick. I guess in retrospect the ads were on target. He was a legend. RIP, You Brynner. You were one of a kind.

Egos can be an incredibly destructive thing ! Here are two extremely excellent examples of exactly that ! Especially when you throw in a bit of "little man" syndrome for good measure ! Each of these gentlemen had their own set of talent, none of which were anything close to being at all similar ! If anything, they may have enhanced each other in some unique ways ! Obviously, the director recognized that ! I have to say, I never knew either of them weren't incredibly tall ! But EXTREMELY surprised that Steve McQueen was only 5'8" ! Hmmm ! I now see that Tom Cruise is also not very tall either, and has not only worn higher heels, but lifts inside his shoes as well ! I have a thought on that subject, well, maybe my opinion. But I wonder if most kids that aren't very tall, or large in stature, don't end up going out for sports during their high school years, and end up in things like drama clubs, and high school plays, which in some cases ignite a passion in them to want to take it farther ! And in those incredibly rare cases, launch them into mega stardom ! Had John Wayne not gotten injured body surfing, with a significant shoulder and collar bone injury, which caused him to lose his college scholarship, he would have been a college football athlete, and may have never gotten into acting ! He was a big strapping kid, who had a strong back, and ended up working as a prop boy moving movie set props for John Ford, and the rest, as they say is history, Ya, history that became movie magic because of what John Ford saw in him, and put him out in front of the camera, and not moving movie props ! Magnificent 7 is one of my favorite Movies. I was just a kid when Steve McQueen use to come by our Apt. to see my 2 Uncles Paul n Nick Bontempi as the 3 of them were in the Service together and all 3 went AWOL one time. Steve McQueen got my Uncles that happened to be Identical Twins a bit part on that TV Series he was doing at the time. This was like 1959-1960. Anyways I remember he came by the Apt. Building in his New Red Sports Car and us kids were playing kick ball and I went over and sat on his Car and he started yelling to get off his car, don’t know what he expected when he’s the one that parked that car in an Apt. Building where about 15 kids were playing kick ball. Yes even as a kid I remember him always being full of himself. His Son was the same way. As we got older now like 17-18 yrs.old we use to go to this Beach in Malibu called Paradise Cove and one day we went there so some of the guys could Surf and the girls hung out up on the Sand, Steve McQueens Son tried to tell us to leave that his Father Owned the Beach and we had to leave. We all started laughing at him and he got mad thinking he was so tough that he came up on the Beach and one of our friends punched him and practically knocked him out. We were all training at Chuck Norris Karate Studios and Chad McQueen was getting private lessons but he was not that good and basically got his Ass handed to him. Yes Chad McQueen was a loud mouth arrogant Idiot sort of like his father.

As James Garner pointed out, McQueen was a Poseur and not an Actor. He spoke few words while acting and used his eyebrows and eyes a lot. Yul Brenner was an Actor, who came from and went back to Broadway after his Movie career. But here is the real story. McQueen got a previous role as a Car driver in a movie with Frank Sinatra. The reason, Sinatra got pissed off by Sammy Davis Junior, who was supposed to get that role, made a public joke about him. The film director was impressed with McQueen and then put him as a lead actor in the Magnificent Seven. From that role, McQueen went to the "A List" of Movie stars. Of course he picked his Movies well as many were Box Office Mega Hits. If you look at his hits, "The Thomas Crown Affair, Bullit and the Great Escape", he spoke few words, used his eyes and facial expressions and physical stances well before the camera.

I have this movie. As far as i'm concerned it is one of the best westerns ever, although not the best, but right up their. I saw the remakes of the Magnificent Seven, and to be truthfully honest, they were terrible. Can't understand why two top actors can't get along on the set. They were both established actors in their own right. The movie had an all star cast and they all did an excellent job. I don't think any of them are still around, but they all did an excellent job.

I loved Your brother in the older movie, West World. It was a cowboy and middle ages it was a bunch of very realistic robots that make up each world. You can carry a gun that doesn’t fire at anyone with body heat. You can walk around and go up to the women that are robots and do what you want. And you can have a showdown and always win. But tings aren’t working right and the robots are not doing what they don’t work right. The robot you Bruno. He remembered the man who shot him and chased him through the whole West world and the medieval place was breaking down soon so all these people in the camper nice vacation lined it up having always Cowboys will be guns on medieval warrior sword sword thing to take their lives! It’s a great movie.

Well McQueen didn’t like Garner, Newman, or any other big actor who could upstage him. He was an azz and badazz and probably jerk but we all liked his performances anyway. Just enjoy the fantasy movies and don’t look into personal factors. Most actors didn’t have great character anyway. They did acting bec they couldn’t do anything else, took the long shot, and made it. Thats all. They aren’t heroes in reality, if people care about reality.

It's a shame Steve McQueen was a dick on set but all his extra lines definitely made the movie better. IMO it's the 4-way contrast between Chris, Vin, Chico and Calvera that gives the film meaning and it wouldn't work if any of them were reduced to just a background face.

🙄If this is real then they're just as bad as eachother. It hasn't put me off the film though as who knows how many films/TV shows we watch that have had or still has actors who don't get on. It's naive to think that everyone loves eachother but so long as they can work something out between themselves then that's something at least ,but it must be a nightmare to have someone hate you that you have to work with them or visa versa. But acting the Diva is not the answer. If someone wants to make you look bad then you have to be the better person if you can. This must've been a nightmare to cope with be it the rest of the cast or the crew to deal with.🙉🙈🤦

Except for the beginning scene where they ride the carriage to the cemetery, not a really big fan of the film. Both men could really piss people off. Steve I think had been friends with james garner, neighbors in fact, but I think some of Steves troubles that he caused on GREAT ESCAPE may have ended that. I think that Chalres Bronson had been friends with him, but that also did not seem to go to well later, at least from what I heard. Who can forget when Yul Bryner wanted to sue a restaurant for Botulism. While Brynner was a bigger start during the making of Magnificent Senve, it can't be argued that MsQueen did become the bigger star later on.

Its an entertaining movie but not a classic in my opinion. Too many of the 7 are killed for no apparent reason. Harry, supposedly an experience gunslinger comes charging in on his horse shouting "I'll help you Chris" and , incredibly, gets shot. Like Duh?. We never see who shoots Lee (Vaughn). We never see who shoots Britt (Coburn). We never see who shoots Bernardo (Bronson). In fact, Bronson is killed after the bandoleros have already fled the town ... so that didn't add up. If you contrast they way these guys were killed with how Newman and Redford went out in Butch and Sundance, you can see the difference. Whirling around against superior forces, killing their enemies but taking hits themselves, that would have been a much more impactful way to portray them. But still, the scene stealing by McQueen is hilarious. Shaking the shotgun shells, messing with his hat, gun, belt etc ... totally upstaged Yul Brynner ... who in the end, didn't do much in the final fight apart from killing Calvera through a window with a single shot.

I agree to some degree. But Steve McQueen was a bigger-than-Hollywood character. From reform school to the Marine Corp to auto and motorcycle racing, McQueen was a real American icon. It also doesn't hurt his legend any that he was in some of the greatest pictures of all time.

@@timoteoshanahan5512 As a matter of fact I liked to watch him when he was just, how do I say this....oh, yeah, acting...! Just playing a role because always his films were interesting and entertaining also. Bullitt, The Getaway, Nevada Smith, Papillon, The Sand Pebbles. It was when his ego got the best of him is when I hated him. Specially in TGE where he manages to make of it his own vehicle. The way he looks at those Nazis and those SS guards, you can tell what he is thinking: "you may be the boss here but I AM the star and a get for this flick an amount of money bigger than what you will get in your entire life". And what about that bike race, I think he was the one who forced it into the movie. And what about spending weeks in SC in a Nazi camp and getting out nice, well groomed, a nice haircut, with clean, well pressed clothes...I have never seen a happier campier coming out of SC in a Nazi POW camp...! As I say, his own ego blasting off the screen ruined many of his scenes for me.

@@rubenoteiza9261 You make some great points, but what can I say? I'm still a big fan. I don't expect much from these actor types. Except for them to maintain the fantasy and keep me entertained. I have fallen out with today's Hollywood. I didn't mind being preached to by Charleton Heston, but these Wokesters we have today have ruined all the fun. So I like to to at least pretend old Hollywood was better. lol

@@timoteoshanahan5512 Yeah, many of today's flicks look and sound more like woke pamphlets than anything else. Westerns where men are lousy shooters compared to chicks and African Americans who would put Blondie and Tuco to shame, just to mention one aspect of it.
