As of 12/03/2021, the England Rugby Team under Eddie Jones is results-wise, in its worst position since 2018. Whilst winning the Autumn Nations Cup of 2020, England are thought to be plateauing, beaten by Scotland at HQ for the first time in 38 years, and increasingly over-reliant on a kicking game that has been labeled as stagnant and boring, in contrast to the free-flowing, try-scoring prowess of France and New Zealand.
Under Simon Amor however, England are starting to find their groove. Behind the intricate plays and dynamics, lies a deep understanding of attacking space, a want to revel in chaos, revolutionary fitness, and with the players at hand, the makings of a limitless attacking system.
Today, we show you the inner workings of this Attack system under Amor. We break down the dynamics behind it, the keys to its success, the much-criticised Eddie Jones' selection policy designed to make it work, and why it could prove to be the most dangerous attack in the World.
Over the 42 minutes, we show the various patterns; shapes, pod structures, distribution methods, and the innovative running lines that will make England very difficult to beat.
Grab a beer, its a hell of a story.

Great analysis. I've found your videos by accident couple of months ago and always look forward to the new ones. Definitely England have a plan and are moving in the right direction. Now they need to work on their discipline, which costed them the game against Wales. It was really painful too watch how they gave so many stupid panalties in the last 20min of the game. The momentum was theirs and they gave it back to Wales. Keep up the great work.

Rly good video and it’s marries up rly well with some of the comments Eddie has made over the years. Firstly Eddie has always said that rugby goes in a cycle between power and pace. The 2019 World Cup was all about power which is why South Africa ultimately won. I think Eddie is predicting the game is going into a pace phase and so is trying to get his team ahead of curve. Also a characteristic of this style attack is as you said completely exhausting. Every carry run and decision is done at maximum intensity and so it’s impossible to do through the whole game. This means England hold there maximum attack until they can manoveur themselves into a scoring position. This is why after the Scotland loss Eddie said ‘we focussed too much on our attack.’ Many people were confused since we kicked the ball basically every opportunity, but this was Ford and farrel trying to kick England into an attacking position. I also think people calling for Eddie’s head after a couple of losses are complete idiots. The mans got 3 different teams to three different World Cup finals the mans clearly good at his job. Also people forget in 2017 England came 5th in the six nations and Eddie took the same team to a World Cup final and perhaps the greatest performance of any team in the decade against the all blacks.

Do you think the fitness is why he is keeping Daly and Slade in the team. I think we need that power option in the backs, but maybe having a backline of strike runners is more that is needed in this system. Malins is not really a strike runner.

I believe Villepreax also flirted with Ashton's Bath in the mid-90's. Jim Greenwood of is another name worthy of mention when we talk about influencers of modern attack, especially Woodward's England. Great work! Just one simple addition. Have you watched the movie ,, Pawn sacrifice”? This movie shows brilliantly how one genius innovates and flourishes his craft behind the scene and most importantly keeps every single new move close to his chest until the right time! Eddie is far more influenced by New Zealand rather than someone else! Since last year most of the teams in Super rugby Aoteroa changed their standard shape 1:3:3:1 into 3:2:2:1 and sometimes this tip on options evolves the pod options into 4:2:2. There are more elements to be put into place for sure but one thing has to be corrected if Eddie as you mentioned spot on tries to do! And this is the skill set of the players! There is still a huge gap between the skill set that this game plan requires and the skill set that these players have.

With all of the repetitive showing of Farrell’s play, not once did we see him kick the ball, where we all know that that is tending to be his main function. That is the problem. In reality outside of your very well presented teaching and information, England’s game tends to try to get line outs in the opposition 22m area, and work for multiple penalty decisions until they get a try, one was or another. Unfortunately the counter to that, is that our props generally give 10-12 penalties away and the whole game plan is reversed. Everything you say sounds good, but the reality is somewhat different, isn’t it? People of my age remember those skills of the Welsh team in the 70’s, and we can recognise them in developing players in each generation, but their vision gets trained out of them by the doctrines of the time. The glimmer of hope you mentioned that Eddie Jones supposedly is trying to develop cannot really be applied into an international team today, because of the pressures to win on the day, would seem to demand systems rather than inspiration. When you consider England ‘03, we had Jason Robinson on the wing, and his skill and inspiration could not/would not be tempered, and as such he was the core to our international dominance of that time. You probably can’t have a collection of 15 random, skilled players like that all together in one team, but surely incorporate a few of them and play to their strengths through the 2-3-3-1 type styles that you have explained so clearly, then we might see the reality of attractive flowing rugby, that we have recently been seeing in a few of the best games in the league this season.

Then he showed us clips of some super young children who had never played and were only taught three basic rules. He was amazed to show one child finally (after predictable confusing nothingness had happened until then) decide to go around the rest or something like that, and got excited by talking about it like the true rugby flair instinct. It is a well informed video which is very rare these days. Now, the choice at 9 and 10 has been hectic and I cannot see that Eddie Jones has cemented either of his fly-halves. England is not the Harlequins and it is not Toulouse or Colomiers of the great French League era. Owen Farrell cannot play at 12 and Marcus Smith cannot quite unleash his backline. Lots of big players at the back when it seems to me a 10 like Smith would deserve a backline more aligned to the likes of former internationals Will Carling, Jeremy Guscott, Jason Robinson, Josh Lewsey as opposed to the Tuilagi & Co. Of course it is a bit simplistic of me but the current backline seems to be a better fit for Farrell than it is for Marcus Smith and I would not be surprised EJ decides to use Smith as an impact player off the bench in similar fashion as Jalibert for France. It is a shame but EJ is going to make a decision that will decide whether England plays expensively or not. Tomorrow's game against the ABs will probably set the tone one way or the other depending on success or debacle. One thing I must say about Marcus Smith is that he is still a bit immature at time and would gain greatly at simplifying his game. There are times were he reminded me of a young Cristiano Ronaldo playing for ManU and doing all sorts of unnecessary crosses with his legs that no defenders ever felt for. He was trying to over cook it with skills he did not really have unlike Messi, it is only when he matured and cut all that visual show pony crap off his game that he became the best player in the World in my view. Marcus Smith at times does things that his opponents have easily identified. It probably costs him momentum but also energy for little result and considering what he does for Harlequins, this has not transferred well at international level. The last 6 Nations 2022 probably did more favour to Farrell than it did to starter Marcus Smith who had a pretty bland tournament overall. So far he has proved to be little more than a reliable place kicker, problem is so is Farrell. As they say, tomorrow is another day, so we will see where England is at against a resurging All Blacks side.

Hey Dale, I think the plan is Eddie's. I can't see him allowing someone unproven. Though I think Amor could have been very good. To dictate the direction of the attack for over a year in a 4 year WC cycle. Think it's Eddie's plan, shape and tactics in attack. Amor just couldn't get it purring like Eddie would have wanted. So don't think there will be too much change. In terms of a new coach. I think it will either be Vesty or in an ideal world. Larkham. Jones knows Larkham and Larkham knows and also teaches Jones' philosophies. Besides Glen Ella, I don't think there's a coach Eddie would trust more to run the attack. Just depends whether he wants to leave Munster.

They did with Ford-Farrell-Daly. But they always operated or set behind dummy runners in the pods. That was under Wisemantel, but i believe the new development is with the wings also moving over to provide "off-shoulder" options basically every other phase, with a key onus on beating the reloading defender. I think its mainly the late positioning in the reloading backs, so that they appear in their intended strike position at the very last second, not moving over to get behind pods as would be quite predictable. May's change in line for me against Wales is a classic example. They can change their strike channels at the last second dependent on how the defence is set, and want to be in positions that they can change until the very last second.

You are finally finding out that Eddie's career is based on the work of his predecessor. Apart from that Japan v RSA win, which was a case of the 'Boks not taking them seriously and the sheer courage that is endemic in that Asian countries DNA, he hasn't done that much, he really is just a clipboard-carrying nerd. England's perpetual problem is the ego of the players (and management), which is simply unearned and therefore outrageous. So find the coach who can pick 'a team' of adequately skilled Rugby players who would figuratively¹ die for each other and how to get them to love being aerobically fitter. But in one sense you are on the right path, that coach has to be a foreigner, an alien, an outsider, not of your kind. You won in 2003 - because we had Eddie. ¹ It is after all just a game designed to 'bring out the man' in pre-pubescent boys.

No it did not. Ireland completely outplayed us and we looked an absolute patch on the team we were last weekend. Can't say why. We were really quite terrible. But massive congratulations to Ireland on a wonderful win. And CJ Stander on an amazing career.

I think you are over optimistic, for his specific game plan to work you need guys with vision and speed. There are to many dead donkeys with no vision. Farrel is a hot head who cant preform under pressure. Billy is to slow and over weight etc etc. Keep on dreaming. The French have a very good scrummie who is streets ahead of tbe England one etc etc. Nice video and very informative.

I'll disagree. Respectfully of course. But feel in Randall and Raf De Quirke. We have two massively gifted and visionary 9's coming through. Fordy is one of the most visionary 10's in the world. He and Randall together could be huge. Add Sladey in the 13 channel and Malins at 15 (who's a former 10 in the style of a 2012 Beauden Barrett). You have plenty of IP across the backline. Forwards run in shape so they don't have too many decisions. But their fitness is equal to the task.

@@WibbleRugby You have such good english manners, its quite refreshing! One of Eddie’s biggest draw backs is that he cannot bleed new players in ( alot of coaches have that problem ) ( Heyneke Meyer is also one of them ) Somewhere in your team you need someone with flair or that something special or x factor to make something special happen in a tight game and currently I dont see that. There is alot of young talent that can do in England but if your coach dont care to take them in and make them accustomed to the riggors of test rugby your going to get stuck in a rut with the same old same old players. I dont say England cannot win the six nations or the world cup but that is a very long stretch. My money is more on the French, to me they are the dominate force in Europe for some while to come. That is only if France keep their current coach.

@@neilpieterse9614 He's starting to bring them in, but you can't just chuck a bunch of new players in because the fans call for it. Malins started against france, I'm sure we'll be seeing starts from Odogwu, Lawrence, Randall and Dombrandt soon.

@@neilpieterse9614 and Barbeary/Willis coming back in. These are monster game winning players. But they're meant to be bled on the Summer tour. Jones uses Lions tours to blood his new crop. That's where Underhill, Curry, Sladey, LCD, Cokanasinga, Harry Williams and Ellis Genge. Quite a few regular mainstays all now got their chance. I will say Randall with Ford. Lawrence and Sladey with the likes of Odogwu, Cokanasinga and Co to come off the bench. That's a lot of X factor.

Let's compare nz regional teams ruck speed to the international England teams ruck speed when they are on the front foot getting good go forward ball against a jackel less team who's not committing anybody to that ruck er wow there is a difference there, yeah the difference is our forwards ferociously attack the breakdown in our competition disrupt the rucks we counter ruck we move bodies we slow the ruck speed we get over the ball your example is Wales that tackle and roll how is that comparable, rugby is a simple game but without the run straight run hard tackle hard type of players it don't matter how fast your ball is why does no one cover that part of the game the physical presence so you get the quick ball cause quicker line speed with dominant gang tackles change a game completely your forwards are getting old and they are to small you guys in for a wake up call focus on your back line way to much only a few injuries to key men and then what? No depth it's obvious when need new tactics you just copy them the all blacks pod formation changes every ruck with constantly changing pods every play just watch the Ireland Vs NZ world cup as a example we played to well that game we where crap for England and they were pretty mean against us but crap for the boks but yeah France are like inconsistent England want to be the all blacks Wales are buying players who couldn't make the all blacks Ireland only play good once every 50yrs against the all blacks Italy make good pizza remember England on Jonah lomu rugby playstation 2 they where stacked with hard Englishman that where English

One. That was incredibly hard to read. But passing over. You don't think in the 6N, opposition teams, international opposition teams, contest the breakdown?
@trainingday4586
@trainingday4586 3 жыл бұрын
@@WibbleRugby well not in the example you showed there was not one Wales player contesting the breakdown which doesn't give a accurate reflection of the England ruck speed that's all I ain't seen any body being smashed off the ball just tackle roll away get up and get back in the defence line also what happens when itoje retires I don't see any other players like him coming thru only one year wonders that are over hyped just like Dupont no consistent history but everybody says he's the best halfback haha let's see him under pressure from some southern hemisphere rush defence then I'll judge him just can't stand the over hyped 6n does anyone break tackles and off load in that competition every time a team has a good year in that competition they are expected to be that good the next year but they never handle the expectations and they fell apart England suck right now and your praising them it's crazy it doesn't take 3yrs for professional rugby players to learn how to switch the point of attack or run stacked plays that's been happening in super rugby for years all England should do is play the all blacks more often

@@trainingday4586 Across the 6N, there were plenty of occasions. France in particular. And England dealt with it brilliantly. This was made pretty early in the 6N. So that answers that. Plus England's carriers and support need to be in place for this speed of ball. So they go in with the carrier 90% of the time. Not allowing competition, hence the fitness is brilliant. As for Dupont, he's not overhyped. Aaron Smith has said he's leading the way in terms of 9 play earlier this year. So enough said. And as for England's talent coming through. You clearly haven't seen Alfie Barbeary, Ollie Hassell-Collins, Odogwu, Harry Randall, Jack Willis, Marcus Smith, Dombrandt. Not to include players like Tom Curry and Co. These are magnificent players and we have plenty more in the pipeline. So not really concerned.
