That Wichita State team was loaded. When they beat my Zags, it wasn't because we played badly. Wichita State was just that good. Them going to the Final Four that year should have driven that point home.

I actually pretty strongly believe that Gonzaga was the best team Wichita State played in their Final Four run. WSU had to play out of their mind to win that game (seriously, 14/28 on threes for the game) especially with the series of possessions down the stretch where they averaged ~2.55 points per possession over 9 possessions, which is insane. Gonzaga even killed the Shockers on the boards which wasn't a normal thing back then. Louisville on the other hand needed quite a bit to go right against WSU to beat them, including a questionable double foul call, a questionable jump ball call, and a no-name walk-on making two threes out of nowhere. Wichita State also outrebounded Louisville. If the tournament was a best of 7, I'd actually be less hopeful playing against that Gonzaga team than that Louisville team. I'm happy to see that since this game, Gonzaga has gotten the respect they've deserved, even though there's unfortunately still ignorant people out there that will hate on Gonzaga like it's their fault they're stuck in the WCC.

The Bulldogs didn't lose that game. The Shockers won it by going nuclear from the 3-pt line.

That was a good WSU team, but OSU shot terribly in this game and got outrebounded. The refs missed a ton of calls, like VanVleet shoving with his off hand all game (only called it once). Shockers played a good game overall.

@@GoShox that jump ball was so bogus. but you knew the refs weren't going to go against Pitino on anything borderline, then they got hosed the next year by the NCAA putting them in the toughest bracket in the tournament.
