WICKED 2024 Movie Trailer REACTION

Hey friends! The Wicked movie trailer with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo just dropped, and I have thoughts. Let's do a side-by-side reaction. I'm a huge Wicked fan and have seen the show many times.
Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba sounds amazing, but I'm unsure about Ariana Grande as Glinda. I feel her pop singing style doesn't fit the role. The production has faced many delays, so it's exciting to see the trailer finally out. What do you think? Are you excited for the movie? Let me know your thoughts!

I think Ariana does have what it takes to sing the role, she posted a video about a year ago(so while they were shooting the movie) of her singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow in a more classical style. You should check it out, she sounds lovely. She’s definitely evolved from that time she sung The Wizard and I. (It’s the video in which she’s wearing a big pink sweater)

I'm excited to see the movie(s)! I don't know if you've had the opportunity to see some of the set videos but I do have some confidence in Ariana's vocals as Glinda, and it does sound a bit different than the concert she was in (although its not a field I'm strong in). But I do have some confidence in here as Glinda!

Ariana’s vocals leaked and she’s legit singing! She’s one of the biggest Wicked fans so she put herself into it 100%. She took acting classes and lessons for 2 years before filming even started. She’s not only proving to everyone that she can do it but she probably wanted to prove it to herself. I know it’s going to be amazing!

I know this story so well, know all the songs by heart, but i have never had the chance to see it on stage. I even have the art book of the making of the stage play. I am excited but a little scared it will be played too safe, and too much like the play. I want Hollywood to take some risks with their movie adaptations

I didn't love the Elphaba a-ah "battle cry" used at the end of the trailer, but I'm also interested to see more and to give it an open-minded watch 😊

Did you know Ariana Grande was on Broadway in the musical 13? I like her, but I probably won't see it anyway since I am not really a Wicked fan lol. Into the Woods is my fave and that movie was amazing. Did you react to that?

All right, I’m glad I’m not the only one. I love Ariana Grande! So we’ll just have to see since obviously I haven’t seen the movie yet. I’m just not convinced that she can pull off the acting portion of the role. She may have gotten a voice coach, to help her with fine-tuning, the Galinda singing part. But acting? We’ll have to see.

Holywood can make a great trailer. I have zero faith they wont screw it up in some massive way for a really stupid reason that will end up pissing me off at a critical point in the show. Wait, is Tom Hooper involved? No? Ok, put me in the slightly more optimistic than cautious camp.

Ariana actually has amazing breath support. She can run across a stage belting LIVE. This wasn’t a great time for her. Her ex had passed away, her engagement ended. I’m sure she had a lot of nerves being on tv in the midst of all that going on in her personal life.

Hmmmm, I'm not at all convinced that musical theatre supporters are going to be satisfied with this film. At this point, I may just wait for your review before subjecting myself to it 😊

I’m just concerned for Ariana Grande. I hope she proves me wrong and doesn’t just do Cat Valentine again like with Hairspray Live. I saw an article that it was between her and Amanda Seyfried. I feel Amanda would’ve been such an easy choice.

I was enjoying the trailer but Defying Gravity, the battle cry was a let down. It sounded like a Diva pop start trying to sing it. There was no emotion to. I don’t know not convinced.

I caught WICKED in the West End a few years ago - enjoyed the show, but it's a much sanitized family-friendly show compared to the original book (which I'd love to see filmed, but it would probably get a PG-13 or R rating). So not excited for the musical film, which obviously will rely heavily on CGI.

We’re probably going to get extended scenes of the Madame, since she wasn’t much in the original musical- and maybe some extended scenes of baby Elphaba with her nanny, and maybe some scenes with Frex and Melina building up to Elphie’s birth. In the book he runs the time dragon like it’s a traveling circus- and he’s the Iminent Thropp. But that’s my guess. Elphaba’s nanny was in the book. I just hope they do right by the book it was based on, which they probably won’t, because it’s based more on the musical which took out a lot of the darker elements- but I can see it making a good film. The book would make a good mini series, like with Percy Jackson and the like.

I really didn't like the teaser. It felt very Marvel and no, I can not explain. Then it also felt like Elphaba is a more cocky than I would prefer her be for a person who has been told how awful she is for her entire life. At this point I am waiting for a full trailer cause I think that will give a better overview of what we REALLY should expect.

You have to keep in mind that this is a film and not the stage show. The delivery of both songs and vocals are not gong to be similar.

Yeah I sorta agree. I love wicked and I hope we eventually get a full trailer that conveys what wicked fans love most about it. I’m still really excited tho! :)

I'm not a fan of the Elphaba makeup. I feel like her features are too soft and washed out. Maybe it didn't work in screen tests for the makeup, but they should accent her lovely bonestructure more.
