Marty Robertson's WICKED 68' Plymouth Barracuda from the Radial Revenge "Sunrise Nationals" at Tulsa Raceway Park. The car features a 521ci Brad Anderson Hemi with an F3 ProCharger and runs on a Mickey Thompson 315 Drag Radial tire.

That has to be the nicest engine compartment I have ever seen in a car, all motor huge valve covers beautiful hogans intake and if you know a little about motors that intake is built purposely with that wide rounded bulge to take advantage of all that boosted air and compress it all at once to take advantage of the procharger! for those who doubt, the Brad Anderson Hemi cranks 4000+, news reel. I worked for Brad Anderson on his sons Funny Car, there wasn't a dyno that could hold that BAE Powerplant's numbers. The key during that era was not the Engine itself, because we ran TFX blocks, but the Cylinder Heads.

Hal 9000. Street outlaws are running fucking giant ass steam roller slicks. This guy is running a 315 radial. RADIAL, treads and all. Little bitty tires. I think the current record on the radial right now is 3.75 in an 1/8th mile. Look up radial vs the world. Big chief and Shawn are both there and can't touch the guys who run this class all the time. The Golden Gorilla is bad ass. Look him up. There running high 5 second 1/4 miles on RADIALS.

Reasons: 1) Less speed = less insurance cost. 2) Less time for wide open throttle generally equates to less catastrophic engine or transmission failure 3) If reason #2 occurs, it takes considerably less time (and manpower) to clean up oil spills and usually provides a reduction in severity if a crash occurs. 4) Again, if reason #2 occurs, spectators don't get bored to death waiting for the cleanup to occur before being able to see more racing. 5) Going with reason #2 happening yet again, these classes have become so large at many events that Sunday eliminations may not be completed within a reasonable amount of time which prevents many racers from being able to return home soon enough to make it to work either Monday or Tuesday. Many racers travel 600 or more miles to race. They DO have businesses to run and/or they don't all have the ability to take an extra day or two off work for each race they attend. ---- Lastly, in this video, the blue Barracuda ran a best 1/8 mile time of 4.26 @ 182.65 mph. This equates to a 1/4 mile time of roughly 6.84 seconds.

The true 1/4 mile for NHRA sanctioned events is no more. After Scott Kalittas' death a few years ago, the length was shortened to 1000 feet. For the non sanctioned events, some will ok the full quarter, and others use either the 1000 mark or even the 1/8th mark.
