Great segment caused me to reflect back on my childhood circa, 1968 Dad was a Mopar Man through and through and bought a 1968 Hemi Charger that weighed in at 4025 lbs. He said he ordered it heavy because he felt more secure with heavier body for the "top-end". I remember he said: "let the Chevys and Fords Have the Holeshot, we'll just come Roarin' back on the Top End". I never saw him lose a race. Factory Hemi, 3:23 PosiRear, and Torqueflight Tranny. OH...and twin Carter AFB 4 barrell Carbs, dual point ignition. One of my fondest memories was having him teach me how to calibrate the air/fuel mixture on those 4Barrells. RIP Pops......

@@waynebollentin989 - Torque. Nobody talks about torque. My old F100 pick up with a 360fe had 165hp but it would light up the 38" BFG all terrains at will. Massive burn outs & tons of tire smoke without touching the brake. Pulled loaded log trailers like it was nothing. Then driving a newer f350 with a 460 at work, I kept wondering - wth is wrong with this turd? That old low compression 360 would run on horse piss but it felt like it could pull a house off it's foundation. Hp is only part of the story - torque is the rest of it. A Hayabusa engine has way more horsepower than my old 360 but put that Busa engine into a 4800 lb f100 with a 3.55 rear axle & 38" tires & we'll see which truck can run the quarter in less than 16.8
@waynebollentin9895 жыл бұрын
@@jackandblaze5956 you have it backwards. Torque is part of it and hp is most of it when it comes to drag racing and other types of racing where the vehicles are lighter. Once you launch a car in drag racing your never real back in the torque band of the motor. Your in the hp part of the band. Last most lifted old trucks with big tires will spin the tires. Has nothing to do with the power and everything to do with the extremely stiff suspension. No weight transfer or suspension planting the tires to the ground. Your not talking to kid here my friend. Torque has it's place but hp is far more important when it comes to most types of racing.

@@BraydenN55 Yeah no shit, but a built big block chevy can make 750 no problem with naturally aspirated and with a carb and no fuel injection. so your point is what?

Hi, Know the car well. Worked Dodge Main in Hamtramck in 64. Later worked Chrysler Engineering Engine Design 1966-1970. Bill Colvin; Fred Shrimpton, others. Used to hang out with the Plymouth Golden Commandos and the Dodge Ramchargers at the shops and at Detroit Drag Way. Drove the 340's, 426 and 440's Enjoyed my time there. Never met you but enjoyed the Drags.

Awesome . This guy definitely has drag racing history behind him. Talk about a guy that is good at pedaling a car at the finish line. First race or two, no big deal. By the end of the thing I was laughing. Definitely an experience racer. Sweet car too. Like the last race against the Chevrolet, which obviously is a nice running automobile also. But look at the Hemi start getting some and pull ahead at the end. I give that guy all the credit for chasing that pedal. He's good
