singing live film first was Les Misérables directed by Tom Hooper and now this Wicked wow... should be more like this.. Jon M. Chu should be directed, write, produce the film adaptation of Miss Saigon with live singing performances..

idk if you were being ironic or not but the les mis route actually worked in les mis for the actually well casted singers (aka samantha barks, aaron tveit, etc) and i actually loved how i dreamed a dream turned out, it was so emotional, it wouldnt be nearly as much emotional if it was lipsynced

And I actually adored (some parts of) the Les Mis movie with Anne Hathaway and Samatha Barks...but it's not my favorite musical. I can just hope that Wicked (my favorite musical) is amazing as a musical movie as it's looking to be!

Live singing is great in theory, but as the Les Miz movie proved repeated takes serve to undermine the performances of even the most talented and seasoned. Hopefully they did a better job here of protecting the actor's ability to deliver and/or worked some audio mixing wizardry.

Live singing is great for stage plays. It is not for movies because you have different takes and keeping the consistency of the same pitch and tone throughout different takes is very difficult and then blending with background sounds I think singing live is an amazing thing but only if you also recorded the songs in ADR and your blending them together seamlessly but if you just did live vocals, joker follow you dude did the same thing And you can clearly tell when someone is flat off key or when they’re using two different takes and splicing them together

well, usually with singers, we aren’t flat or off key because we are trained to not be and also there is someone on set for A2 or mixing to check everything

They will be singing live. Maybe some action scenes they will take audio from the (studio) soundtrack. But the rest of the music will be mixed in to the scenes.
