Thank you, Peter! 🌈 I think you're going to love the story, when you are reintroduced to it. I read the novel and have seen two version of the stage production. They're actually rather dissimilar, but I'm told the two movies will combine details from both sources.

They are NOT including the NC-17 material (and cynicism) from the novel, however. It's still going to be PG. Thank God! I just wish they'd put some sort of warning out for parents to not buy the novel for their children.

Winnie Holzman is far, far more the true author of the Wicked musical. I think Maguire is in the discussion only for legal reasons. His series is far more anti-family, generally cynical and pushing the boundaries of obscenity than the musical. It's greatly unfortunate that there is a rerelease of the novel with the movie. Most people who try reading the novel hate it and it may even cost the movie some viewers. Also, in no way is the NC-17 (or worse) novel suitable for children of ANY age. Unlike the novel, the musical is accessible to most people, keeps the story reasonably PG, and ultimately gives us characters we can root for, including an heroic Elphaba. IMO there's no one remotely likeable in Maguire's novel. Elphaba, in the novel, is almost a sociopath she's so selfish and cold. And, despite several tries, I've never been able to find even a single through plotline in the thing.
