Or, these professional sportsman could adjust and learn to tackle properly. At 3:21 - Dr Gus says this wasn't a concussion... 'A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury. This occurs from a mild blow to the head, either with or without loss of consciousness.' At 3:21, the first point of contact was the tackler's shoulder and the runner's chin. The runner's head whiplashes from the impact. Dr Gus assumes a concussion must result in a loss of consciousness. Gus is spot on. Why is the defending team solely responsible for the head contact? it takes two to make a collision. All the instances where the ball player hits the defenders head with their shoulders, elbows and hips are ok even if they result in a concussion. Why don't attacking players have a duty of care considering they cause about 70% of the concussions and head knocks. The only way to get rid of head knocks is ban the collisions. Might as well just play oz tag

I actually enjoyed the footy for the most part this year, except the bunker over turning given tries two minutes after the fact. But that all changed with the crackdown. Im fine with the crackdown on direct head high shots. But its the accidental ones that arent anyones fault that dont need to be sinbinned and in some cases even penalised. We need to get over as a society that just because someone is hurt someone must be at fault. Its a sport of spilt second decisions, accidents happen. But what makes the games really hard to watch is the bunker almost entire sets later telling the ref to stop play cos there might be a high tackle. This is where the confusion and the fabric of the game is truly being ruined. If they are worried about litigation then there should be a clause in the contracts of first grade footballers stating they are at risk of head knocks despite all precautions taken and the league holds no responsibility for what injury may come cause of it if the person in question chooses to continue as a footballer. Most footballers understand these risks to begin with. Its just those doing it tough after footy will resort to legal action.

Yes, largely agree. You do not need to hurt anyone now to be penalised, sin binned or sent off anymore. I watched the Sydney-Brisbane game and I actually felt sorry for Radley. He clearly was confused and seemed disorientated. I was expecting the coaches to pull him off. I've never been part of the "bring back the biff" brigade but the game in 2021 is so fast, the players are stronger and fitter than in previous generations and I'd say that the referees and video refs can arguably find fault with a large proportion of the tackles. In 2021, players know they can't get into fights, punch or use any form of foul play - elbows, knees, whatever. As such, many decisions are spur of the moment and are a reaction to the ball carrier moving, changing direction, etc. A normal reaction to a change of direction by the carrier is to react quickly and that is a common reason for loose arms and tackles that go wrong - as well as missed tackles. Clamping down in it will see endless lines of players at the judiciary. I am expecting that soon, ALL matches will be watched and re-watched by judiciary members looking for any infraction. If that happens, the players will be too scared to even tackle each other. I have seen Rugby Union go in that direction where the tacklers no longer try and really hit each other.

The 6 again rule no contest between top teams and those down the ladder, ridiculous salary cap rules that allow some clubs all the advantages and now they are turning the game into a touch football contest. Now we will have coaches instructing players to stay down and milk penalties whenever they can. It's getting as bad as the dives in soccer. Netball has more violence than football these days.

Construction workers, cops, ambos, etc they all have high risk on their jobs but they dont get paid nearly half as much. There are other sports that dont involve contact such as tennis, golf, swimming, etc. There is no sense from Vlandys's excuse worried of the government would cancel NRL. Most fans/viewerd had no idea of what was going on anymore with broncos vs roosters game. If a game decided by ref's decisions then what's the point watching NRL anymore? NRL is an absolute mess, instead of cracking down on shocking Ref's and Bunker's decision, Vlandys decided to crack down on players. Good job Vlandys, RIP NRL 2021

Under the crackdown Victor was all over the place and Gus is dead wrong about the hit on Coates. Watch the game and listen to the Ref he clearly calls Victor offside 2 times before he drops the shoulder. He then follows it up with another shoulder that either hits the head, or gets pretty close. I stopped watching several years ago after 30 years as a fan and cancelled by club membership when the referee's boss started majorly messing with the flow of the game. Seemingly random penalties started occurring which changed from week to week depending on what the ref's boss decided was his favourite flavour of penalty on a Wednesday night. Which destroys the fair flow of play and unnecessarily gift one team field position they are not entitled to, which often results in points. The rot has just worsened at an increasing rate since then and it is a complete and utter joke now. They are destroying the game. This head contact thing is just the latest absurdity. V'Landys says the fans are the customer and must be listened to, yet when the fans, players, clubs, coaches and commentators are all up in arms, V'Landys, Abdo and Annesley just bunker down and say get stuffed.

Cannot believe people are frustrated at the first Radley sin bin.. Watch John Hopoate hit on Keith Galloway (17 game suspension) and you can see the similarities in technique that Radley used. He didn't quite elbow him in the head but when you jump off the floor you are not in control and there is always a risk to the attacker. The whole point of the crackdown is to prevent moments like Hopoate. Yes the whole thing is being over reffed on most occasions, however the first Radley tackle is the reason why this crackdown needs to happen. It was an absolutely woeful attempt at a tackle and Kelly is lucky that Radley didn't connect properly, could have been so much worse.

Can't see a problem with eliminating foul 'tough guy' play, there's plenty of toughness in the game without hitting people in the head,..... there's a few plodders that'll be out of a job soon,....

The frustration isn't so much on the hard stance, it's that you KNOW the top teams won't be under the same scrutiny as everyone else. Consistency of interpretation has always been the problem. Willy nilly changes without actually defining the rule. Then watch the rule change for origin.

They are worried about being sued. McKinnon sued them for his injury & its opened floodgates. Getting hit by a 120kg player at pace would be like falling of a horse repeatedly. Of course having to tackle players running at you is just as high stakes. Players should simply sign waivers they cant sue if their IQ's drop below 100 because of concussions. Mind you, most of them are already under 100.

The rule in its current form is utter craziness. I think it can work and serve to make the game safer but it needs to be in the hands of the ref to make a distinction between something worthy of a sendoff. This pulling the game back for a high shot 3 tackles earlier that no one has even noticed or cared about has to stop.

The players are more fitter, stronger and faster than we've ever seen. It's hard to estimate a tackle and you are going to hit above the shoulders in an accidental manner, that tackle from Bradley on tavita was a fair tackle, there going to srcutinize every tackle that from the chest up, you can't blame majority of the players for the physical nature and fast pace of the game

You will have more injuries and head high tackles from 12 men teams being exhausted because they are playing 12v13 for ten minutes. This then leads to more head highs then more send offs and less players defending getting more tired. Leaving us with 11v13 and so on and so forth. I’m over it.

With these sort of (ridiculous) rules, the NRL players might as well put on the American Football League (NFL) gears. It won’t be long before NRL players start reacting like soccer players.

I don't get it. Why does it have to be a head injury for a lawsuit? Mckinnon sued. Any injury could be litigation. What stops it is players not wanting to be that guy.

Radley was pinged for offside on the Coates tackle, he was called out 2 or 3 times by the ref. Ref blew his whistle before Radley dropped his shoulder and arm on Coates' head, should have been sent off for dog hit.
