A New Zealand vs. England test series would be great for players who aren't eligible for origin. Samoa and Tonga won't work because too many players play origin. Fiji vs. png would work, too.

Melburnian here, so I get it, I don't understand Origin football like Qlders and NSWelshman. But hear my suggestion: Why doesn't the NRL have a two-week window for Origin in the middle of the season? Teams have a 2-week bye, players who are playing Origin go into camp on the Monday, first game is Friday night, second is the following Wednesday and the third game is Sunday night, hopefully being the decider

I still love the idea of just scheduling three weeks in the middle of the year and you can play the Origin games whilst everyone else gets to play their version of rep footy. What are we going to do in 10-20 years when we have a heap of Victorians/WA players in the competition. They will feel disadvantaged as NSW, QLD get to play rep footy but they don't. I mean NZ feels like that atm. We need to stop living in the NSW and QLD bubble and give people outside these areas access to rep footy. Eventually as the pressure mounts, the NRL will have to change it.

Origin is the highest level of footy period. Yes Australia vs NZ and other nations is up there but you can't reduce origin to a smaller period cos it's hard tough footy for the full 80 mins. Even club footy shortest turnaround is 4 days but the intensity is nowhere near an origin game.

I’ve long held the belief that they should do origin in 3 consecutive weeks. As a part of a rep period. Have Tonga and Samoa play each other, have a joint Fiji and png team face New Zealand. Have the women’s origin. Have the under 15s and 18s state teams play on tv. You can get a solid 4-5 games a week for 3 weeks out of rep games and then go back to the season.

the origin period they done during covid that was 3 weeks in a row end of season was perfect. if you're not selected after finals you go on holiday. they are hypocrites on this because when that happened they talked about how good it was, better quality of regular footy which is the pinnacle of the game and the players focus because the premiership is the main focus over origin,

The other problem is the clubs are afraid to lose players they have banked on to get injured outside the Nrl games. It's a tough one as I know it would be good to draw in the crowds of all the nations. I'm a Cook Islander it's hard to watch and support all the players in different teams but under 1 team against other nations at then end of year, would make me tune in.

I like the idea of conferences, but I think understanding how it would work might be challenging. Would it be divided into Sydney/NSW teams in one conference and teams from other states in another? Assuming teams only compete within their conference, one benefit would be more games with rivalries. However, this setup would mean that teams from other conferences would have to do all the traveling. If the conferences were to change each year, it could add an interesting dynamic because teams would be seeded based on their performance in the previous year. However, this could result in situations where teams don't get to play against their biggest rivals, which could negatively impact club revenue. For instance, if the Dragons and Roosters aren't in the same conference, does that mean there would be no ANZAC game? For me, I would just like everyone to play each other once so that's 19 games with 20 teams in the comp. You get 9 home games, 9 away games with 1 magic round. If that's not enough games, have a mid season knockout tournament, that spans 5 weekends (can be spread across the season).

Gus is right here, shorten the clubs rounds to 20 games and allow for more international games at the end of the year. Nz thumped Oz at the end of last year, we regularly need a two division series. Tier 1 Oz,NZ, Eng, Samoa, Tier2 Tonga, PNG, France ? Lebanon ? Whoever finishes fourth in tier 1 gets relegated down and whoever finishes first in tier 2 moves up.

20 teams - 19 rounds with 1 rivals round - 20 games 23 weeks of footy that’s probably the right amount of games and time frames. The total time for the footy season from pre season games to internationals shouldn’t be longer than 32 weeks barring a World Cup year. Currently with pre season regular season, finals and internationals it’s 37 weeks. 3 week pre season - 20 regular season over 21 weeks - 4 weeks finals - 4 weeks internationals - 32weeks total. Cutout 5 weeks of the calendar

Surely they could make a weekend of it and have a magic round style Origin/International weekend. Could do Queensland,Sydney and alternate the 3rd location Melbourne,Auckland😂,Perth. Tonga vs Samoa curtain raiser and Indigenous boys NZ vs Aus before them thats 3 games for Sunday. Then have the Womens origin game on Saturday as a curtain raiser to Great Britain vs The Kiwi. Shut the comp down for 3 weeks and break the comp down into 2 halfs.

Every origin week should be a bye for all teams. Origin Wednesday, pacific teams play Friday, Saturday, Sunday . The NRL is full of players from the Pacific islands.

As a club member, what is in it for me to have players from my club in SoO? the myth is that they come back better, no evidence supports this - they were picked because they are the best, but they can demand more pay at the next negotiation on the basis of having played. So the best case scenario is my clubs best players miss 3 or 4 club games and can ask for higher pay next negotiation. The worst case is my clubs best players get injured, to no benefit to my club and my club gets no compensation for losing them for weeks, months or the season. I don't care in the slightest about SoO, but even if I did, what is in it for the dues paying club member, or for that matter, the club?

There's no 1 perfect solution, but it doesn't make sense to me that Gus says keep the Origin at the 6 weeks length, but wants a shorter season? Well if we went to a 3 week origin period and perhaps found a way to reduce 2 rounds of the comp in this period, then doens't that make sense? I don't origin at the end of the year is good, because teams are too focused and reliant on having everyone available for Finals, so I like origin in the mid year, but 6 weeks stretched out, and diulted other teams, and half rounds etc is boring. So I've got a crazy idea - but if Gus says the NRL makes 40% of its yearly revenue in the origin period, then why not go for broke and try this: June is Rep month. Last sund of May the origin teams get picked, but they pick a 25 man squad to cover 3 weeks of origin. Every team gets the first 10 days off, Wed you start with main origina game in either Qld or NSW, then for the Thurs-Sun, every team still plays but its magic round in whatever that first origin game is in (so game 1 = Suncorp, then it's magic round from Thurs-sun with girls S.O.O on the friday night, then Game 2 is the neutral city (Melb, Perth Adelaide), same thing, Wed night Game 2 origin, then thurs- Sun magic round but now where in a new city where all the teams get to play to showcase our game and womens origin game 2, then game 3 is in the other Qld or NSW (obviously this gets swaped each year), same thing again and now its a 3rd magic round in a different state/city and we've made our game cover all the corners of Aust in a 3 week period, is a rolling Sporting festival just like the old Big Day Out festivals that toured the country for 3 weeks. The initial 10 days give origin players time to train, the other clubs have a 10 day mini rest/slash prepare new/young talent to fill in, and once the final Sunday has finished in week 4 of June, then we roll straight back into normal comp, therefore only 1 team each week is haveing a bye (until we get to 18 teams), everyt teams plays, players stay match fit, unless already injured, and we get a huge powerful month of games, rep footy and showcasing and building new fans and injecting massive revenue into 3 major cities, we reduce the season by 2-3 weeks because every team is still playing and training during this month, we do 6-8 weeks post origin and into 4 week final series. Anyway just and idea :)

Once they get the 18th team it'll be easy... weekend following R12, R15 and R18 every side can have there byes then there are no favourable matchups over origin and every side has the opportunity to field a full strength side.

My rep strategy would be leave Origin as it is. But end of year, there'd be a Test schedule of NZ vs England, Samoa vs Tonga, Fiji vs PNG, and follow that with a final Tri-series of Australia vs NZ. too much and players won't want to do it. too little and it loses its importance and spark.

How to get more talent in the game? Thats easy stop expanding in New South Wales and Queensland. Tasmania currently doesn’t have a professional winter sport team. Kids there can become nrl players with a Hobart team. Norther territory doesn’t have a team in anything. Plenty of kids there could be nrl talent. Perth and Adelaide could function well too. If you keep putting teams in New South Wales and Queensland you’re dividing 1000 maximum nrl standard players between nearly 20 teams who have to have 30 players each. It simply doesn’t work, and there is a massive difference in talent between the top 50 nrl standard player and the remainder
