Is it possible to use WIDI jack to connect two different midi devices? Midi-out on Device A and then midi-in on Device B? And then can Device A send midi to Device B using the wired connection(pass thru the Widi Jack), but I also want to use my iPad to send wireless midi to Device B.
@CMEPro
@CMEPro 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidwai90 why shouldn’t you use just a wire between A and B then? Technically you can add a different device to the IN and OUT of your WIDI Jack. You can then route MIDI separately to the MIDI IN and OUT via a routing app or by using MIDI channels via WIDI groups. Still, WIDI Jack is a Bluetooth MIDI adapter. So, you will always need another Bluetooth MIDI device or WIDI device to transmit and receive MIDI via Bluetooth. You can split that transmitting and receiving via MIDI In and OUT, but you cannot send from MIDI Out to MIDI In via WIDI Jack as you asked.

You are basically my in ear guru.. I run backing tracks via a laptop into our x32 rack in ear rig. But we still need a way to start and stop intros and move to the next one without having to run to the back of the stage... I was using a35ft midi to USB cable and a footswitch to accomplish this.. so thanks to this little review I now have a widi host going to a widi bud pro and I am now 1 less cable on the stage. I don't know much about midi. But I do know that I'm trying to use the least amount of stuff. Maybe when the ampero stomp (they're version of hx stomp) comes out I can use this widi jack thing, keep the ampero hidden back by the amp/drum riser, and only have a small thing wirelessly up front like the ampero control unit that just came out. Not sure if that's possible but I'll look into it later. Don't know much about this stuff yet

Thank you so much for your video and this information. However, I have a question: If the WIDI Master can only be powered through the MIDI OUT, how would I pair two WIDI Masters (one for the controller and the other to the receiver)? It doesn't make much sense that both of the WIDIs are connected to the OUTs, right? 🤔 Besides, what I would like to do is connect a Ground Control Pro (GCP MIDI foot controller) to 2 HEX Audio Switcher units. To my understanding, the two HEX units should be connected in series: OUT of the first unit into the IN of the second unit, right? So the whole chain would be: GCP MIDI OUT > First HEX MIDI IN > First HEX MIDI OUT > Second HEX MIDI IN. In this scenario, how can I substitute the standard MIDI cable that goes from GCP MIDI OUT into the First HEX MIDI IN with the WIDI Master? 🤔
@ScottUhlMusic

Widi master gets power from the Out, but the two still connect when they are powered on, and the IN connector still receives the wireless midi signal 👍

6:10 How does pairing with more than two devices work? Does one need a phone / computer for that? And is it possible to create other than simple pair connections i.e. A OUT to B IN - B OUT to C-IN, or even possible send one out into two ins?

It is able to just auto pair without any sort of computer or tablet. I’m not sure how it’s able to do that, it just works. There is an app for further configuration if you need it. So I think the 1 out 2 in would be the easiest way to set it up if I’m understanding properly

Is there a solution for something like an AKAI MPK Mini or a Novation Launchkey Mk 3, one of those mini MIDI controllers that isn't able to power anything on its own? Is there some kind of solution where both the Mini MIDI Controller and WIDI Jack could get power from something while the WIDI Jack is plugged into the Mini MIDI Controller's MIDI Out port? Not sure if I am phrasing these questions right. I guess you would plug both the WIDI Jack and MIDI Controller into like.. a power bank? And then the WIDI Jack would also be connected to the MIDI Controller?

Hi, I have a question about the automation of live performance. I have 2 midi enabled devices that are connected to each other. Sometimes we change the order of our songs. And then I have to tap dance to select some patch in other banks so the correct patch is active. Do you know a good app (no daw) that allows me to select the right song on the fly on stage? Will the Widi master app allow to do these program changes in a predetermined sequence?

I like ableton for sure for song management. Although I do show you how to do it in logic here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHfclKd8eL-WiZI Widi can be used to send program changes to load new songs, yes 👍

@@ScottUhlMusic thank you very much for the info and link. I play in 2 rock coverbands thus we don't take laptops with Daw's on the stage. We don't have backing tracks to play over. All is done live. So only a 'next song' button that triggers 1 midi PC message will be enough. Is there something that works for us on smartphone?

I have a 1988 Casio PG 380 Guitar controller (MIDI out only). Do you plug one into the guitar and the other into the MIDI receiver ? I have a older M-Audio mid air transmitter with receiver that takes batteries right now. Not sure this would work to connect the guitar to a rack mount casio 10M/8M synth set up. Plug one 5 pin transmitter into the guitar and one receiver into the other ? then plug a transmitter (out) from there to the other MIDI equipment ? All I need is the initial connection for the guitar. So now that I watched the video I think I will have a power problem coming out of the guitar ?

It has an option to get power just in case the device it’s plugged into does not send power. So you can do that if for some reason it doesn’t

@@ScottUhlMusic That defeats the purpose of "wireless" on the guitar. The Guitar does have its own 9v battery power along with a 9v power supply source. Still not sure if they had a reason to send voltage to the MIDI or not when just using a 5 pin cord. The M-Audio has a trans pack with 2 AA's along with the receiver. I am working on making an internal wireless guitar and MIDI controller with no wires. The batteries in the guitar will be rechargeable when put in its stand. The guitar (look it up) has little to no space inside it because of the electronics of the built in synth and MIDI controller. would like to eliminate the M-Audio battery pack transmitter box. Thanks.

You did not cover using it with Windows. The problem with Windows is that "normal" DAWs and other programs use the standard Windows Midi Device API to connect top Midi devices, but the Windows (10 and 11) "Bluetoth Midi API" is a completely unrelated beast and only can be used with dedicated software adhering to same. Hence you need a rather complex setup. I recently posted this in the Reaper forum: If the PC / Laptop has built-in Bluetooth: I happened to find a video on how in Windows to connect a Bluetooth Midi device (here "Widi Master", but the same will hold for other Bluetooth Midi devices) to a DAW. This needs two free software products to be installed: MidiBerry and LoopMidi. -> kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWe5oopooaxof6M If the PC does not have Bluetooth or if you don't want to install that software, in fact with a (second) WidiHost, you also can just plug in same in the PC and it can be found as a Midi Device.

I need it to be listed on the Midi in port so Ican control my Yamaha dtx Multi 12 Don't I? Midi is way too confusing. And most guides are way over my head. I need a CME representative to install these devices for me especially on Windows because there are a lot of steps involved. I did install the korg BLE driver then turned bluetooth off then on again. Then added a device ,found Widi Jack but after connecting ,it would disconnected immediately then would not be seen in midi berry. the whole experience drove me nuts. I still don't know how Cubase is supposed to see a Bluetooth midi connection. I really need someone to install this crap for me. I am a drummer of 50 years experience.
