If they spoke with French accents no one could follow the story. I suppose that’s why they speak such proper English with British accents.

There is no reason for them to have French accent, it's a British movie. It would be a movie in England with one French character, ok. But it's not because the movie is in the France than people need to speak with an accent. If we want authencity, everybody had to speak French. Better, old French. If it's a Russian movie with russian actors, they can spoke russian. China = chinese. England = english. I'm French. I prefer to heard proper english than a bad fake accent.

❤ why would they have French accents in a British film? and FYI… proper English is British. it is also called Queen’s English. Films as this one are beautifully dubbed in the language of the country where the story takes place.

@@the.mystictraveller Because we need to have actors who speak french and subtitles. When someone create a movie, they had to use the main langage of the country where the movie will be distribute to be sure to have the bigger audience. So, if a french productor want to do a movie set in China but the principal distribution is in France, it's normal to have french. It's a British movie, they can sell it in UK, USA, Australia by using only English.
