the monmartre system in Paris WAS initially a funicular, but that changed with the recent renovations

As I've already commented on David's Great Orme Tramway < kzbin.info/www/bejne/p527o6aCoJqmg9U > video, this funicular has the same arrangement or rails: two at the top, four where the cars pass, and three at the bottom.

Nice report - looks a lovely place. Interesting the cars have a driver (? - or guard?) - is that to stop operation if there is a tree on the line?

As far as I could observe when I was there, they apply a hand brake. I think I might remember they also fill and clear the tanks depending on the heading of the train.
