@@firmak2 while Athena do have more domain than just being a war goddess , she and Ares are pretty equal when it comes to being a diety of war. They both are basically two sides of the same coin. Athena represents the strategical and tactical side of warfare, while Ares represents the overwhelming might and brutality of war.

​@@firmak2I really wouldn't put Athena any higher than Ares. Athena just being the Goddess of the cities namesake and Ares being the God of the rest whom where otherwise opposed to Athens. Athena was their goddess of war since the idea was that Athens philosophy was that war was in defense of ideals of Athens and it's people. An Elitist mentality so it's only natural for others to be opposed to this and worshipping Ares, or broadly just general prowess in combat not associated with city state values. Like a Soldier v a warrior, both fighters but motivations being group or individually driven.

The reason you might not remember some of it is because that part was Ghost of Sparta, for the PSP. If you played only on the PS2, the games there (God of War 1 and 2), are set after Chains of Olympus (also for PSP) and Ghost of Sparta is set between 1 and 2 if I remind it right. There's also Ascension for the PS3 that takes place between Chains of Olympus and God of War 1. It's quite a mess, but this video puts all in order so its all good.

Yeah the origin of Kratos always makes me remember a quote from Paarthunax in ES5: Skyrim, "is it more noble to be born good or more-so to overcome your evil through sheer force of will?" It takes a lot of will power and determination to see your flaws, acknowledge them and best them tbh. The first God of war story was more interesting to me. After his decision to give his soul to win the war. Power consumed him blindingly killing his own family. Nothing but rage and revenge was the goal. And to see Kratos progression in Ragnarok is such a massive change but well fitting.

Without the norse arc, the story of Kratos to me feels a bit cheesy on the edgy side. Like it's just tragedy over tragedy over violence with very little sense or lesson. But with the norsa arc added to his full story, it scales from "edgy western anime" to "legendary epic story"

It's been so long since playing the original God of War games that, it's easy to forget just how good the story was. It's actually a very simple premise with an amazing back story as to Kratos motivations. But the base premise is revenge. Really would make a great movie trilogy like Lord of The Rings or something.

I also don't remember kratos having a brother. And when they spoke of the marked one, in the trailer of Ghost of Sparta, they say something along the line of "before there was a god, before there was an oracle, the prophecy talked about the marked one" then kratos would be standing there. A funny but messed up thing, in the beginning, Athena asked kratos to forgive her but when kratos asked Athena to forgive him, she said no.

@@BaulFoodmanedits Because it’s impossible to adapt the first games in live action, it’s too ridiculous with the titans and the scale of everything. Not only that but the first games storylines are very repetitive, Kratos being naive and a pawn for the gods and then seeking revenge and killing everyone, and that Kratos wouldn’t be a likable character for the new viewers. The budget of Ring of Power are almost $60 millions per episode and it’s the most expensive show of all time and that isn’t even close to the budget they would need to adapt the first games of GOW, it’s impossible. 2018 Kratos is easier to connect, a lot of people didn’t even played the first games and still loved 2018 and loved Kratos because the script is amazing. They Kratos has an amazing development, the problem is that the development works better knowing his story but still like I said many people didn’t even played the first games and still loved that game because it worked as a soft reboot. And the story of 2018 is more grounded too so it’s easier to adapt, like it has some moments that the scale of everything is really impressive but nothing compared to the old games with the Greek gods, the titans, sisters of fate, etc.

Just found your channel and I had to watch this video with my best friend/Queen, lbvs. This is the type of thing we do together and have for 20 years, since we were 8 years old in elementary school. Any and every book, show, movie, comic book, etc either of us were interested in, we'd take it to other and travel that journey together, discussing our thoughts and what we were getting out of it while doing so. The Goosebumps series (TV show and books), Harry Potter (movie and books), Percy Jackson series, Marvel comic books, etc. And from the Percy Jackson books we set out on our most fulfilling journey into the mythos behind the characters in it. Which simultaneously peaked our interests in learning the mythos' of our ethnicities. (We're both biracial. Native American and African American. Which just happened to be one of the uncanny coincidences we share(d), like my birthday being August 11th, and her's being 11 days after mine and me being born 11:11 that night and Queen would be born on the 22nd at 10:11 that morning...exactly 11 hours after the time when I was born, lol. I couldn't make this ish up even if I were Shakespeare 😂😂😂). But the Greek mythos was so captivating to us bcz it was bat ish crazy. I have sickle cell and I was in the hospital often as a kid and it used to crush my heart and soul. My older brother knowing how much I loved Greek mythology and hearing this game was based on it; he, unbeknownst to me, took the money he had been working hard for- for so long so he could buy himself a new car..and he bought GOW for me, talked with the doctors and nurses to see if they'd allow him to bring our PS2 to my room for my birthday and they said yes. He called Queen's mother and asked if he could take her to come be with me for my birthday, and when they came they turned an awful and heartbreaking day into one of the best days of my life. That was the day we were introduced to the demigod, Kratos- the ghost of Sparta. Queen and I have been hooked ever since. Lmbo. Thinking about that as I watched this video with her, brought back that day. I can't wait to watch your other videos with her.

Kratos is easily one of the most tragic characters in gaming history. I saw someone criticize Kratos in 2018 for being so passive and tame in comparison to the originals, and how they went the "depressed father" route. I had to actually laugh cause if anyone has played through all the original games, they'd know Kratos had more suffering than almost anyone and he took it out on everyone around him as a result. He literally projects his suffering with his anger and hatred. And it's so nice seeing him develop as a character to who we see him as now in Ragnarok

the part where he vows to aries was early in god of war 1 the after story happened in ghost of sparta the second psp game, they didn't really expect to make more then 1 or 2 games so they didn't put that much thought into the lore of it till they noticed how liked they were and kept it going with and ended up making the first psp game chains of olympus that happens before 1 then the prequelish ghost of sparta which focuses on him finding out that Demos is still alive and tries to find him which ends up explaining more of his back story.

This backstory is from GOW Ghost of Sparta which was originally on the PSP and actually the 5th game in the series and its events ( Except for Kratos's childhood) take place between GOW 1 and 2 so if you've played only the main home console releases than you're going to be beyond a little Lost! 🙄😉

The Barbarian leader was actually someone Kratos fought twice. They met once when they were looking for a certain item that cured sickness, and Kratos' daughter was very sick. He succeeded, but the barbarian survived and came back with a vengeance.

An ambrosia. Kratos' daughter calliope was frail and sick who could die without it. The spartan leader would seek it for the glory of spaSparta. Kratos went after an ambrosia which the gods possessed. (I forget the entire name but the important thing about it is it can heal any sickness.) Other lands seeked this. The barbarian leader from god of war 1 that almost killed Kratos in their second battle, also had a loved one in danger but would die without it. All parties involved had to fight and compete to retrieve the ambrosia for their land. Kratos was Ultimately rewarded not only with keeping his child alive by curing her, but was ranked the youngest general of the Spartans. The barbarians lost their king who died without the ambrosia. The defeated son took over the throne and now would seek revenge upon Kratos.

P.S. 14:36 It gets even more bizarre when the fact that Athena shares a throne/purpose as Aires, as she was the goddess of war. She was literally the female and more wiser of them both. But, what makes this even more crazy is, like Diemos, Athena and Aires are Kratos half siblings. As, with Diemos, they had the same mother, with Athena, Aires, and Kratos having the same father, Zeus. The story of Kratos is something else😂😂😂

There were two games for PSP. They're were eventually released on PS3. Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. They filled huge holes in Kratos past. PSP was never that popular so a lot of people didn't know they existed. There was a comic book/graphic novel as well that showed the gods had a competition between humans they had chosen to be their "champions" and Kratos had been selected by Ares long before he made the deal that changed his life forever.
