While my heart goes out to everyone involved, I'm not sure I would be able to stay with my husband if he revealed this to me. I wouldnt stop loving him or wanting to be in his life, but I don't think I would be okay being "married" anymore. I'm a straight woman and I thought I was marrying a MAN. This is incredibly unfair to expect these women to be okay in a now "lesbian" type relationship. I'm not saying it's wrong, but I'm saying that these women shouldn't be looked down upon for divorcing.

This couple especially upset me because the husband (now wife I guess) married her and basically tricked her into thinking he loved her for all these years and then drops this devastating bomb, but only to act like she’s the selfish one and acting wrong about it. I probably knew early that I was, nearly was killed by my brother as a child, suppressed my feelings as to who I am, did a good job until I had an emotional breakdown because I worked 12 hour days trying to be something I am not and came to the realization as to who I am. Maybe one should not be so quick to judge... while I empathize with those negatively effected by the fact many people who had no idea what was going them became involved in relationships, had families and yep probably caused issues for their partners - many had no idea as society was not accepting, and obviously still are not based on comments here. I hope to stay as I am, but as I have all my life not knowing why, I have stared at women not sexually but admiring how they look their clothes and .... This past weekend was looking at womens clothing store, while waiting for my wife in the car, and a woman caught me looking at her for probably too long... and while I was just admiring what I will never be, I am sure that most women would feel very uncomfortable having a man stare at them..... Heck recently I had a physical and had all of my hormones tested and while my testosterone levels were in line with a typical males, my estrogen levels were that or higher than the typical women's. Sorry, but what we were taught about the sexes in biology is not 100% right and gee to the bible thumper, gee maybe not everything that was written and translated by men (and women) is true to gods word. Gods word is to love thy neighbor and gosh there is an awful lot of hate and disgust.

The best thing Cindy said was "it's not about you". She is right. I think he (now Lucy) was being totally unfair to think that he could start up a relationship with a standard heterosexual woman and lie to them by omission like that. Such a major fact is something any potential partner should be told right at the outset of a potential relationship and then it's their choice as to whether to have a relationship with that person or no and what level of relationship to have with them if so. As a standard heterosexual woman myself - if I got together with a man and he then subsequently told me he felt he was really a woman - his feet wouldnt touch the ground as he had to head straight out the door pronto before I threw something at him. The reason I would be furious with him and would never see him again in any way (even just for friendship) wouldnt be because he was that way - but because he'd lied to me and conned me into a sexual relationship with him and not given me the chance to say "Sorry - if you believe you are a woman - then you will only ever be a friend to me". I would be totally sickened to have been conned into a sexual relationship with someone that I believed was a man - but who regarded themselves as a woman and hadnt had the decency to be honest with me about it in advance of anything sexual.

Ive been watching this series. I think all the men were so wrong getting into these relationships and marriages all based on a lie. What do they expect as a reaction? They act like it not that big a deal, which is such a selfish and unrealistic view to take. One couple was married for 23 years, but they are divorcing.With this one Troy and Cindy when he dressed up as Lucy he looked absolutely ridiculous. I would be out of the relationship in a heartbeat. Why should Cindy have to change her whole life just to suit him? Thats what shes doing. From the early times in my learning about this, I felt for both people in the situation. When I saw documentaries on a girl child wanting to, or knowing, they were a boy or vice versa, I had no doubt the child should be allowed to do what they needed to do.... the opposite gender toys, clothes, etc. This is real. The child becomes so happy and loses anxiety and depression and becomes accepted, at least in the families I've seen on programs.

What I find worrisome is not that this man wants to be a woman but that for reasons unknown we as a society are now being pushed into accepting this as heroic and wonderful. His wife said she only began to accept his transitioning after she went to therapy...but why did she need therapy?...And what did this therapy entail...constraining her to accept her husband of eleven years as female with the assumption she was the one needing psychological help ! By contrast, "Lucy" is lauded as a hero(ine) ..the audience nodding and clapping as Kelly smirks and grovels. Somebody needs to speak the truth...this man will never ever even remotely resemble a woman, only a ridiculous and tragic parody at best. I doubt this will end well.

I watched part of the documentary on You Tube. Troy talked about meeting Cindy in absolutely male-attracted-to-female terms. He was attracted to her like a man is to a woman. And when he first tried on being a woman, he didn’t like it. I think he harbored this “desire to be a girl” in his imagination that he built it up in his mind but the reality of looking that way was shocking to him. And society and the documentary are now part of the pressure on him. He came out and said he realized he was being selfish. I think he finally told Cindy because they were so close he felt like he could open up to her. It’s good they are getting therapy, I also think for whatever reason, he does feel comfortable as a man, too. I think Cindy loving him enough to stay and take it one day at a time is a good thing, if that’s what she wants.

Good interview. I've watched lost in transition & it's a good show. I hope season 2 comes out. In regards to this interview I kinda feel equally sorry for both of them. It is a tough situation either way you roll the dice. Poor Lucy/Troy has suffered with gender dysphoria since childhood. People tend to forget it's both a medical & psychological condition that makes life hard. Lots of trans people don't want to accept themselves either because it's so painful & a lot to face. I totally agree it's not fair & wrong to get married or enter a relationship with a huge secret/lie. You should at least come out & tell someone you're really falling in love with any of your secrets before committing long term. See how they'll react & be honest. Poor Cindy thought this was her dream man. But I give both of them credit for working together on this. They show that love is love. Think about the good times & what brought you together. The persons heart, soul, & personality all stay the same but their physical appearance just changes. Learning & accommodating each other's wishes are the best ways to cope. It's their new normal & I hope both can adapt to this new chapter in their relationship. Best of luck & I hope to hear/see an update soon.
