The Netherlands has produced so many great female rock and metal vocalists - Sharon Den Adel, Anneke Van Giersbergen, Dianne Van Giersbergen (no relation), Charlotte Wessels (Delain - I think youf wife would like them), the Jansen Sisters (Floor & Irene), Simone Simons....I don't know what it is about the musical education there, but I wish they'd spread it out to other countries.

I honestly have NO idea what happens here that produces these voices. At one point i even speculated it might have to do with body height and vocal cords but there is not red line of these women being tall compared to other countries.

I believe it is the culture that allows this to freely happen. Plus, what the other comment says maybe genetically European woman might have an advantage.

Your wouldn't believe that 2 days before this concert, she lost her voice. She still wasn't 100% when they did this concert. Love Sharon's voice. You should try their opener to this concert Jillian also another great track, The Promise. Just little background information on the the band. They are a Dutch symphonic metal band that started the same time as Nightwish 1996. They are considered one of the pioneers of female fronted metal bands. The lead vocalist is Sharon den Adel who founded the band together with her partner Robert Westerholt. She applied, and was admitted, to the conservatory for opera training but did not like it so she changed over to the arts-academy within her first semester. There she studied clothing design and management and completed it successfully. She has mainly used these skills in designing outfits used on stage. They have had a rather successful run in clubs for couple of years where their performances were constantly sold out. Because of that they got invited to the biggest festival in the Netherlands "Pink Pop". Even though they had a very early start the concert was a huge success. They released their single "Ice Queen"shortly after expecting it to be very successful but it did not do much until somewhere in December that year a dj played it on the radio. Suddenly the song shot up in the charts and even took the number 1 spot. Now other countries started to pay attention. They received their first foreign festival invitation from Argentina. All expenses paid but they were not getting paid for the concert itself. At this time they all still had day-time jobs so they needed to take vacations days to go. They went over there and considered the concert a success judging from the audience respons. The record company also arranged a signing session in the biggest cd/record store in Buenos Aires, on their way over there the band members were speculating about the number of people to expect or if anybody would even show-up. They got their answer when they arrived at the store. The store was filled to the brim and there were still hundreds people standing outside waiting to get in and even the band itself had problems to get through. When they asked the shop owner how come that so many people showed up he looked surprised and said "Haven't they told you guys that Ice Queen had lead the charts for weeks?". They have many great songs to chose from and practically any song will do but my favorite song of them is "Say my name". The suggested clip is a complete concert registration but you can select the separate songs from the attached listing in the comments field or select the 45:30 minute mark. The song was never released on any of the studio albums but as a bonus track on the single release of the song called "Angels" . The song is about her (Sharon den Adel) grandmother suffering from Alzheimers and her desperate attempts to try to connect with her one more time. Her delivery is spot on except for slight emotional tremor in her voice that makes it all the more beautiful. The audience is also fully aware of the uniqueness of this song being performed because it so quiet that you would have been able to hear pin drop.Quiet an achievement in a sold-out arena of 20.000 people. I have seen this woman perform four times in concert and countless live registration online she is usually very relaxed and cheerful during her concerts. During this concert she starts out that way but if you watch her carefully you can see her tense up the closer she get to this song and relaxes again after the song has been done. This clearly is very personal song to her. She must have been satisfied with the results because the next year she performed it again during their acoustic theater tour. Nice reaction! Glad you liked it, she's amazing, and that concert Black Symphony is so good! There's one more group, called Epica, which has an amazing singer (she's from the Netherlands too, like Floor Jansen from Nightwish) and they actually did a collab with Floor Jansen, called ''Epica & Floor Jansen - Sancta Terra (live) and honestly, the chemistry between them and the way they sing it is just so good. It's one of my favs, and i think you'll really like that one!

Within Temptation has such a huge portfolio of really good songs. If they made it, I probably like it. Album after album, song after song. A truly rare thing to find. I probably have 25+ of their songs on my car playlist.

Within Temptation did a song called Somewhere at the same concert as a Duet with Anneke van Giersbergen. Anneke is the one who inspired Floor Jansen to go the Symphonic/prog direction. The duet is fabulous. Anneke often sings with Devin Townsend try Grace, Kingdom, Ih Ah, Deadhead. Devin's music is often referred to as "Heaven Metal" because of the angelic high melodic singing. Love your reactions, nice to see you love the dutch metal queens Floor Jansen (Nightwish) and Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation). some days before if i recall, she had a flu/cold and lose her voice , the concert was in danger of not happening, was a miracle...but yet, we who know Sharon, know she can do better than this, was bad luck indeed.
