When Bert put it like that about society killing the little girl 😭. Never heard it put that way. My mind went back to the exact day for myself and our girls. There’s a lot to unpack in that statement.

As a dad that worked a contract route from 10pm - 3am, I was the house husband taking care of everything till my wife and best friend got home at 6pm. I had the same conversations about cloths or style for school, I was always brutally honest and let them get mad at me instead of getting to school and being laughed at, that can be brutal for a child and can scar them especially in middle school where kids can be disturbingly hateful. I dreaded those years for that reason, but they made it through without being scared for life which is a success. That topic hit home for me. Thanks so much. Hello from Chattanooga Tn.

I'm going through this change with me 12 year old daughter. I had her when I was 20. Ive Dedicated my life to my career and my daughter. Being young and scared of the future I've never been afraid of making the hard decisions or the tough actions to make her life better. Nothing prepares you for their Maturity/puberty time in life where you feel like they don't need you or that you're not fun anymore.

That's a great word on raising children. I have son's. I don't know if it's better to have son's. I don't what it's like to raise abdaughters. I would probably feel like bert if i was. It's very hard to let any of them go out fly and grow up, but we have to. All when can do is raise them right and be there for them when they need us. But let them come to you when they want to and feel comfortable to talk to you about whatever it is that is bothering them.

I swear in this episode LeeAnn said “I DID need you, but you weren’t there, so I learned how not to.” I meant to bookmark the clip bc this is the same song I’ve been singing and it felt amazing to hear someone else say it, but I had to sign into a meeting and now I can’t find it! I think I’m on my third round of listening to this podcast to try to find it. Anyone else catch LeeAnn saying that? Would love help with a time stamp!

Leanne are you familiar with Dr Russell Barkley? I saw a clip on IG that really broke down ADHD in a simple and new way for me- I'll totally butcher it but all this talk about "I want a drink but I don't want a drink but I want a drink but ..." reminded me of it. If you haven't heard of him it's worth looking up. Hadn't heard of add described in this way before which was basically instead of attention deficit he says it should be "intention deficit" disorder. Anyways, still working on the episode, great so far!!

Ok but the relationship between boys & their moms does shift as well. You’re talking about girls & their Dads but it is similar the other way too. My 17 yr old refused to kiss me on the cheek today. And I’m very close with my boys but it’s the natural progression of growing up.
@renmo60612 жыл бұрын
Also, a detective I’ve talked to about this says the men have a completely different perspective about it. They don’t think they’re raping a person (apparently). And women often say that they lay there in shock it’s happening- these assaults aren’t violent in terms of what ppl think rape looks like. According to this detective- women don’t say “no” or “stop” and try to use “body language” which men don’t view as a “no.” This according to the detective….🥺
@powderandpaint142 жыл бұрын
Quite often people freeze in fear when they are being assaulted, that's not talked about enough. But Leanne has said she said no and tried to struggle in her experience and the guy didn't stop.
@renmo60612 жыл бұрын
Agreed! The shock- the freeze element of the fight-flight-freeze. I’ve heard LeeAnn talk about her experience on the pod-I’m sharing what the detective told me who investigates these crimes. I was horrified that she(detective) described it almost like a difference in perspective as opposed to one person (or more) using power & control over another to violate them. Detective shared what victims have told her & what perpetrators have told her in the majority- date-rape situations that she’s investigated.
@powderandpaint142 жыл бұрын
@@renmo6061 I think that possibly perpetrators might not be honest about what actually happened though. I'm sure they do recognise body language or feel the person struggling and know what they're doing is wrong but just ignore it. I expect a lot of women did say no also but the perpetrator will claim that they didn't.
