We used to get the train up to Wigan casino me and a load of friends from Wolverhampton 1 chap being a rocker he kept on asking to come with us so we took him with us we'd been a few times As we were dancers we was on the floor doing our moves then Trevor our rocker friend got onthe dance floor he kept dancing right by us we told him to find his own space great memories planky

A few years back my team the wolves were playing Wigan Athletic at Wigans ground ill always remember Listening to Jackie Wilsons the sweetest feeling being played as they were winning plus do i love you Frank wilson also on 1 of the islands we past onthe coach there was a plaque telling everybody about Wigan casino grt memories planky wolves

I was lucky enough to visit this hallowed place during the 70's, being a rocker got me a few comments and a little ribbing, but I must say never any thing other than friendly banter. I first went in 76 as a 15 yr old with a few older guys from Wrexham, they were serious soul boys, which is where I got the taste for the wonderful heart crushing music that is Northern soul. I am 66 now and still a rock loving biker, but there will always be a piece of my heart and soul captivated by the wide style and emotional music called Northern soul, so many songs artists and memories. The place was legendary and so were the guys n gals who made my many visits memorable. Long may it continue keeping the faith. Always a rocker, its in my blood, but this music will always be in my soul. KTF

Lump in my throat! Tears streaming down my face! I'm a massive n.s.fan have been since I was 13yrs old I'm 60 now never got to go to Wigan,but listening to this with my eyes closed I'm there. So sad it must have been for these guys and girls.

Was there 1st Friday of the month for the oldies sometimes on a Saturday to. Was there on the last night what a turn out. Miss the Casino was the absolute Business. KTF

I was there with my then girlfriend - a Gary Numan and Human League fan, but she did like some of mi' tunes - I was 17 and had been going since I was 14, 1978, mainly on mi' own as it wasn't the thing anymore in Oldham - anyway terrific night , with a long sit-in at the end.. they had to play the last tunes again 'cos no-one was goin' anywhere. Back to facts - Winstanley on Piccadilly Radio the week earlier - 3 tunes on Monday nights at 9 - announced they were going to do one or two more Niters after the End of an Era one, as the Council had put the date back and gave them a bit of leeway... I didn't go to any of those.. The End.

The casino may have been a bit dump back in the day but it was our dump and we loved it and the people and of course the fantastic music, it was a sad day when some twat put a match to one of the most famous dance halls in the world, shame on wigan council for turning its back on our special place, KTF ✊🏻

I was there, remember writing my name on the floor with a sharpie, apologies if you bought part of the wood as a memento for your kitchen! Then of course it reopened for 'five more nighters' a couple of months later. I went to the first one, then intended to go to the third, skipped it thinking i will go to the fourth and fifth, which of course never happened. Great memories and a life changing scene. Thank you all.

There will be nothing like this scene ever again, it envokes to much passion, friendship and raw emotion hence the atmosphere, did not go to wigan but went to my first all nighter in 84, went to all nighters with amazing atmospheres but wont come close to this, lucky you who was there at this night, nice to see the new kids on the scene, think the northern soul scene will go on forever and so it should the pleasure it has given to me over the years has been amazing, hope the new kids on the block will feel the same, ktf

@@paulastarkie-pj1ol they played oldies on the Friday and on the Saturday played what they called new? But sometimes if new tracks went down well on the Saturday were played the following Friday, Sunday's were dance competitions, sometimes Monday and Wednesday but nobody went mid week 👍

I went to the casino 18 times (yes I counted!) for 3 years from when I was 15 to 18 it was an amazing period for me I was also into stuff like Tavares EWF and Philly.. I was in secondary school and Northern was being played and talked about. EVery couple of months I used to go down there from Carlisle and I have some amazing image's and moments still in my head from those nights. I remember going for 4am walks around the town centre and then going back into the Casino and the Din and the Heat and the Sweat and the Atmosphere ☆#@!

Ginger from Willenhall said to me a great allnighter is in Keele UV he said its like Wigan A great allnighter but it didn't touch Wigan for the Atmosphere no way . I used to sell my Northern soul cassettes just outside inthe corridor great memories thoe I still go to soul nite and weekenders I'm 66 now planky
