Pretty sad, but beautiful, song. Say what you want about the man, be he a self-destructive drunk, or a toothless bugger, but there's no denying the man's lyrical genius.

Saw them a few times at the Carling Academy in Glasgow. The best live band that I have saw.One off the gigs McGowan just fucked off,and about ten mins later came back eating fish and chips. And the rest off the band filled in for him.I love the fact that he just does not give a fuck.I reckon he had a few that night to.How ever all his lyrics were spot on,and crystal clear. The guys a total pro and a real show man.And there is not many off them around any more.He is well under rated as a song smith.

You needed two essentials for a Pogues gig. A few drinks in you and to know some of the words, and you got the best night of your life! When I saw them Shane didn't make it to the end of the show but Jem took over the last few so it didn't matter.

Shane MACGowan was born in Ireland and left with his parents to London where of course he grew up with the London Punk scene, but he loved the history and the skill of Irish Traditional music but he never felt he was as good as the Traditional singers, so, he invented 'Punk Irish' which was a huge hit. And Shane, your love of Irish calm and music is evident in every song you sing(except for Fiesta!!) xxx Go Néirí an mBóthar leat a Bhucaill! Love ya - brilliant man you are

I am awake at two in the morning laying on my couch eating costco gorgonzola trying parse a six second clip from this song some silly bint sent me yesterday even though I did everything in my power to get her to buzz off for good, for her own good; and if she can read this I'd like to remind her my opinion on snorting other people's heartfelt religious leanings as a mild fast acting antidepressant merely takes the act of self medicating to its absolute ideological endgame. Also it's beyond baffling to me trying to sort out which faiths people actually profess versus everything they say that seems intended to destabilize further the beliefs of someone that professor finds the least bit threatening in any conceivable manner. . I'm just passed I can barely make out a word he was saying in the clip. If I spoke 42 languages fluently I admire and respect this man but I wouldn't pick being able to understand him better. As it stands, all I know is that I am an involuntary prisoner of the hated tongue of the heathen oppressor and I'm not sure it counts as a human language anymore. ...was she calling me a plastic paddy? Make Paranoia Agree Again
