more great characterizations! In the first few seconds I was thinking "what a loser" but as the conversation went on, he was clearly sharp, educated, and a good socializer. How is it that Wigs gives people so many layers in a few minutes and 120 minutes in a Hollywood movie churns out people flatter than paper?

I like how she combined all the men's stories to be her own. The camera movement was pretty epic, echoing her downward spiral. I wonder how long this is going to go before she realizes that she needs to go home and be with her husband and children.

This was the best episode yet! I loved how Christine freaked out at him for being a male writer about women; it felt like Rodrigo Garcia was somehow pointing at himself and reflecting on his work. I loved how patient and intuitive he was. I also loved how she combined all of the stories of the other men into a giant lie about herself at 4:02-4:30. Artistically perfect episode.

Agreed. The men are really there to bring to light Christine's story. They aren't really even in the running, so to speak. The concept of letting her story unfold in this setting, amidst speed dating is, as you say, sublime. Very much loving every frame and nuance of this, kind of like a jigsaw puzzle. Oz is a particularly well played character. Really enjoyed this episode. Lots of clues towards Christine's story arc in here.....Thanks for your comment, AC!

One of the best episodes in this series. You got her right at her frustrated level and really says a lot about her character. Like the use of the playwright to bring out the conceit of Christine's character and foibles.

I love her as a character, not necessarily as a real person (I will have to see how the rest of the show plays out). Like Oz, I find her character interesting in its complexity. Also, part of the excitement of speed dating is that it's an interaction with strangers who you never have to speak to again, which allows people to act in ways they might never usually act. She's hardly dragging anybody in. Their interactions with her will be a blip in the radar, and I think she knows it.

Although I have four more episodes to watch, I must say that I really appreciate seeing Ms. Ferrera playing a more complex and dramatic role. By the way, I think that the writing is brilliant and nuanced, and that is why it is getting such strong reactions from the people posting here. The author is allowing us to see our own humanity in the mirror, and that is disconcerting for many. Bravo!

I agree. I actually wasn't certain about Christine at the beginning, but as her character became more complex, I grew to love her rather than dislike her. That said, I understand that people have a hard time understanding dissatisfied women, even though complexity is a part of art and life.

On the contrary, I like her character even more. Prior to the husband making his appearance, Christine appeared to be this tense woman with this untruthful persona surrounding herself and all the men she's met. Now that almost all the puzzle pieces have been laid out, it makes Christine a 3-D character with some actual depth. This series just might be my favorite.

@wigs I love this, as it goes on it gets more twisted and I love how Oz handled her attitude . I also love that she is the splitting image of the character his play is based on... and that every time one of these men remind her of herself she becomes defensive and snappy... and that maybe just maybe, this could all be leading to a disaster. >:D well done, the character development and tension in this series is amazing!

stories told by film, are not just told by the writers and actors, but also by the cinematographer. The panning was part of the storyline (hence why the behind the scene clip was about the cinematographer). I do agree it went a little bit long but can find the beauty in it. The scene leaves the viewer and characters spinning and a feeling of "What just happened". The satire of men writing about women was a fresh breath of humor in otherwise intense scene.

he's a writer, I feel it takes a lot for someone like himself to get upset and offended (unless its on his work lol). I feel that he approached Christine as someone to study, observe, and take in to get a better understanding of how a damaged woman would act in the situation that she's in, because he seemed to get the jist of it (jealous husband and her reaction to all that he said).
