Just for fun, I hooked the WigWag up to my Mamod engine boiler, the results were wet and messy :)
PLANS: wigwagengine.w...
About Me...
I started model engineering and building model stationary steam engines in 2015, after constructing a small engineering workshop in my back yard, I use a Myford ML7 hobby lathe, a Dore Westbury milling machine, along with a pillar drill, band-saw and the usual hand-tools associated with hobby engineering and enjoy making model engines and general tool-making and metalworking. Nearly all of my engines are scratch-built without drawings, from available bar-stock, starting from an initial idea and allowing the design to evolve throughout the build process. I do occasionally use drawings from the web, as a basis for a design, and then modify it to suit my needs, using mostly metric dimensions, but often mix metric and imperial. I spend countless hours in my workshop working on a single engine, and much frustration can be involved, but all this is eventually offset by the pleasure and excitement of seeing my model engines take shape and eventually come to life. My shed is also my sanctuary, somewhere I can go and forget about the worries of everyday life, to occupy my mind and hands with something creative and fulfilling, where I am free from distraction and interruption. Hello Ade, Good to see the WigWag under steam... I can see why you do most of your running under air... Take care. Paul,,

Lol, I was watching this with my wife and she wasn't paying to much attention. At the beginning she asked, "Is that an engine or a pump?"
@AdeSwash

Harhar, it is certainly good at pumping water ;)

Love it Ade! You could set up a pipe to filter the hot water from the exhaust straight into a cup for the Pump Jack to dip a teabag. Now that’s utilising your engines to their fullest! Just one teaspoon of ‘3 in 1’ in mine please 😀

I seem to remember from my college days .. Thermodynamics I think it was called. The term "wet steam" well now, 50 years later, I have seen it. 🙃

I wonder how big of a model a Mamod boiler like this could run. Do you think the boiler is powerful enough to run your beam engine?
@AdeSwash
@AdeSwash Жыл бұрын
Hi Guy, the mamod barely ran the wigwag, there was no chance it would run the big beam

I hope this doesn't sound too idiotic, but was the reason the wig wag wouldn't start up initially was that the water was condensing in the head?
@AdeSwash
@AdeSwash 3 жыл бұрын
I guess so Robert, I'm no steam expert but cold condensing and an undersized boiler, but got going in the end, good fun getting scalded in the process

And the boiler was too full of water . That much water takes longer to heat up and you get so much water in the beginning !

Hi Herny, I have never had any problems with running on steam, I always blow them through with compressed air to remove any moisture residue afterwards and they seem to be ok, no problems as yet
