About Me...
I started model engineering and building model stationary steam engines in 2015, after constructing a small engineering workshop in my back yard, I use a Myford ML7 hobby lathe, a Dore Westbury milling machine, along with a pillar drill, band-saw and the usual hand-tools associated with hobby engineering and enjoy making model engines and general tool-making and metalworking. Nearly all of my engines are scratch-built without drawings, from available bar-stock, starting from an initial idea and allowing the design to evolve throughout the build process. I do occasionally use drawings from the web, as a basis for a design, and then modify it to suit my needs, using mostly metric dimensions, but often mix metric and imperial. I spend countless hours in my workshop working on a single engine, and much frustration can be involved, but all this is eventually offset by the pleasure and excitement of seeing my model engines take shape and eventually come to life. My shed is also my sanctuary, somewhere I can go and forget about the worries of everyday life, to occupy my mind and hands with something creative and fulfilling, where I am free from distraction and interruption. This is Keith from Michigan USA. You know how I am. Heck yes this is another Wig Wag that I want to build. If you read this message. This week on October 11th, 2022. The balance of my teeth are getting all pulled. Doing what called using Implants for a complete set of teeth. I won't machine nothing for a while....

The Wig Wag Wizard has come up with another winner! No pressure Ade but will you be releasing any plans so your followers can make this one at home too? I’m still waiting for that book to be released (signed copy of course!) 😀

Hi Mick, thanks for your continued enthusiasm for the wigwags, I wasn't planning on creating drawings for this, as it is essentially the same engine as the basic vertical wigwag, with just a couple of modifications to it ... slightly wider flywheel, slightly shorter bearing bushes, reduced spring tension nut, and a re-configurement of the air supply, the dimensions are mentioned in the video so I hope that will help cover the mods. As for a book, well thats an idea in the very early stages, as I think there is some future designs from the wigwag to come yet, and I wouldn't want to publish a book when the project itself is not completed, but sure thing, if it ever makes it into print I would glady sign your copy :) Regards, Ade

Are they powerful enough to drive small scale machinery of some kind?

Ade, would it be possible to make a twin cylinder wig-wag engine with the two cylinders on opposite sides of the same column? No reason why -- it just popped into my head while I was watching this video. Nice engine, BTW.
@AdeSwash
@AdeSwash 3 жыл бұрын
Hi defross, good question. The difficulty would be finding a way to hold the cylinders with spring tension on the outside, but not impossible, the other difficulty would be the flywheel placement, again not impossible, but the engine would be quite different from the essence of the wigwag identity. Cheers Ade

Hi Barry, I dont build my engines to provide power, and I wouldnt know how to measure that, but i would be interested how to do that if you can provide me with the details?

@@AdeSwash prony breaks are probably the easiest way. But the way this engine is made with an enclosed flywheel that might be hard to do. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zna2gIyehM1lbsU
