Maybe they tried to emulate humans? As some sort of experiment, or maybe to do more moral jobs like judges and officers in order for humanity to be kept in their actions, and to not make them be cold (however that somewhat failed)? Maybe Roberto particularly was made to give a better understanding of the human brain, in order for better surgeries and to cure insanity in others.
