I can honestly say that late era 8 bit (1988-1991) probably has some of the best music in video game history. I would say that some of these games surpass even later consoles and certainly modern games! I love how these old games all had soul. They really put a lot of effort into them.

+montec101 I think the same, they had a level of work and inspiration that is rarely seen today. Something that I love about the first Ninja Gaidens is how despite the limitations of the time their creators managed to put simple yet exciting and truly cinematographic storylines along the gameplay, which was still something unusual in the videogame industry.

I will stand by the fact that the more technology advances we lose imagination to be creative because we aren't limited by the hardware. We had so little space to work with in these games we had to make it all work.

15:07 - I'll never forget the chills that ran down my spine the first time I played through when that music kicked in as Irene & Robert ran into Jaquio. They didn't really show much of him, except for the pentagram on his chest which let you know who it was. Outstanding story telling & foreshadowing on Tecmo's part.

insanity21376 I know, right? My bro and I nearly fainted when we heard that music. Like wtf... it took me so long to kill him the first time around and now I have to beat this guy again?!?!?! I haven’t felt that engaged and invested in a game in decades.

And we might never play an other game that will give us this feeling. I think we are too used to the incredible graphics and sounds. Like the first time I saw Final Fantasy 3 (US) intro, or the fight against Sephiroth in FF7 when the chorus starts.

I finally did it! I played this plenty as a child and got pretty good at it. But could never defeat the last boss. Same thing many years later and then I got really close. Today I started playing just for fun. Got to the last boss but as usually not making the whole game. But just a few moments ago I tried again and finally did it! Got goosebumps too! FINALLY. One trick I never noticed before is that if you complete one of the last boss "shapes". The last shape will be there as the first shape when go back even if you get a Game Over. I never knew that before. Today was a good day!

When I first got this game as a 10 year old mutt. I popped the damn thing into my NES like time was running out to save the world and there it was.... The intro, Ashtar, that track just set things off for a great journey dodging bullets, eyeballs, spikes, bazookas, demons, then the 1st stage track kicked in and I had to put on my ninja gidup. Thank you Tecmo and the Hayabusa clan

Wiiguy309, your OST's to varying NES games are a treat to listen to - they never go on too long, and the transition to the next song is very smoothly. There are people who can learn from you on this topic. Being 32 in age hearing video game songs from the NES era are music to my ears - they bring back loads of memories (such as me resorting to the Game Genie to beat a few NES games growing up - I wish I made up that bit)! Keep it up Sir! ^_^

Thank you very much! Funny enough, this soundtrack, and a few other early soundtracks I did, actually fade out too short, and don't get a two loop play because of not being as good at checking the NSFe files I had for doing these soundtracks, but I certainly like to make sure they get a decent amount of loops, depending on the song, and how long the soundtrack is too. But I'm always glad to hear these things from people :)

Tecmo world wrestling inspirations, downmixes/mellowed: 1. Prologue: Approaching Evil, direct inspiration to 7th Match (approximately 30 seconds in). 2. Cutscene: Military Man, direct inspiration of VS match-up theme. 3. Deep Within the Heart [Acts 5-1b & 7-1]: Inspiration for Match #8 Vs. Screen, hints at Match #5 VS screen (obviously). 4. Cutscene: The Altar, Inspiration of Blue King VS Screen (obvious). 5. Staff Roll, inspiration downmix/mellowed for 1st Match - Akari Dragon (the drums! Listen to one, then the other!)

It's interesting how the final tune ("Staff Roll") makes me reminisce of the next game in the series, NG3. Hell, some parts of it almost match some of the most memorable and touching samples in NG3. As if composers knew how they would evolve their approach and made some kind of hidden introduction. I've noticed this because I played this legend in reversed order: NG3, NG2, NG1, and NG3 of course became most iconic to me.
