I disagree - aside from sniggering about the meaning, listen to those lovely harmonies, the beautiful string arrangement - and the incredible noises of the ' sky rockets' made on the slide guitar. A superb performance!

Ok, I'm a little puzzled. This may be the first time I've heard a reactor focus on a band's name as a majority of the reaction. Totally your right to do so. However, I have to ask, did you even listen to the lyrics ? This came out in 1976 and I vividly recall friends asking me "did you hear what they are singing about ?" LOL. Peace !

This song was a big hit. Members Bill & Taffy Danoff were good friends of John Denver. They were jamming with John Denver at their house in Maryland (not far from where I live) when the song "Country Road" was created.

Golly, that was swell! This song was featured in an early season of _Glee,_ sung by the Celibacy Club because the club president believed the song was about the US Bicentennial and a dessert made with coconut, pineapple, and marshmallow fluff. Most bands of the time, most everyone played an instrument. These people only sang. Therefore, they were a "vocal" band. If I remember correctly, they also did background vocals for hire. For me, this was a "lunge for the radio dial" song, along with that other example of 1976 dweebiness, "Disco Duck" (worst record ever made). As for these lyrics, anyone who ever heard/used the term "nooner" had no problem deciphering.

I recently listened to this song from my youth and was surprised how country it sounded, like country ABBA. I agree with the person that was stunned that you focused on the band’s name more than on the vocals or the lyrics which is what makes the song special. I also disagree that this song is at one level. Listen again, especially the very last harmony where they climb all over the scale with the women singing high and the men singing deep and low. I still think this song has perhaps the best harmonies I’ve ever heard.

I hear you on your analysis, makes sense. At the time it was just a song that came on the radio in a long sequence of songs and I think we focused more on the song than the band name. Personally I like the song more now than I used to and I am actually more impressed by the vocals today than before but I agree with you that nowadays there are vocal bands who are a lot more impressive. I think I just like the melody here and the women are easy on the eyes also.

This has always been one of my sentimental favorites from back in high school. The truth is that so much of the greatness of a song comes down to imagination, writing, and producing. How many songs out there are sort of a near miss. I could point to "Jodie" by Del Shannon. How many musicians are technically very talented, but can't write that well. Please don't savage me, but Joe Satriani comes to mind. Talented, but he always seems to be just showing off, in my opinion.

I think you being honest is always the best thing! However, a couple of observations on my part ... I was a young adult when this came out. I think it might have gone better for you if you had known a few things first. It was a novelty song to be sure, and you have to think about the year that it came out ... it was risque - how did it get past the censors?! You placed too much importance on their name - it was just a name - perhaps visions of grandeur on their part? I would imagine they thought they would go further as a band and develop into something grander. They all sang well, harmony good .. this time it was the lyrics that counted .., can you imagine how much fun we had with that!? Good times! Finally, I thought it was an awful video!! Whomever did that certainly did them no service! None of them looked particularly good - could have been styled to bring out the best in each one. The fireworks were silly - maybe could have been done better or just eliminated ... the way they just walked back and forth or just stood in the studio was boring and dumb. The whole video took away from the song and was just poorly made ... made them all look a little silly! Remember, most of us just heard it on the radio. It was a big hit, we loved it and had fun with it ... guess you had to be there!

I don't understand why you think because of the name of the band they are trying to say that they are the greatest singers in the world. I understand it as a "vocal band" being that they are all singers, that's it. You are looking into and diagnosing this song way too much. It's a simple song with a nice melody and interesting lyrics sung by pretty good singers. That's it. If you don't like it, then you don't like it that's fine, but you justify not liking it by blabbing all this nonsense. You didn't even talk about the what the song was about and the complements you gave them were half-hearted.

And to do reaction u never build up any song. The point of a reaction is to listen then analize. The fault was your because of ur expectation of the name. Had u not did that u wud have listened open minded. As it was ur mind was already set on high expectations cause of the name. Ur mind was essentially already preconceived on what to expect. But then again u are very young

Did you really say you blame us?? WTF dude? You did not listen to the words of the song, for you wouldn’t be saying that! Song has always been a classic and you are the first person that I have ever heard saying they didn’t care for this song! You need to go and read about how the song came about , it’ll give you a different perspective. Well, maybe not, because you already had your mind made up that you weren’t going to like this song. This is the third reaction that I just can’t understand or agree with your assessment. I don’t like unsubscribing, but if your reaction is that off-base again, then I’ll move on. Trust me, I’m not the only one that feels this way towards your reactions.

This is a roller rink filler song. Spent many a weekend at the roller rink in bell bottom pants and God awful shirts. The song is good for flying around, skating around. Lol. Definitely not a house party song.

You set the bar too high! 😆 This song is on many “worst/annoying songs” lists. No need to explain yourself.
