The Original is by B J Thomas 1968 very similar without the into. Blue Swede is a Swedish band the specialized in doing covers of fun songs This is from 1973. It was made again famous via Tarantino's movie: Reservoir Dogs

The Swedish name of the band, Blåblus, rather translates into Blue collar. Björn Skifs, lead singer, is still active 75 year old. This was the most famous version of the song, while being a cover of a cover.

This was the first song with a Swedish band to hit #1 at Billboard and it caught everyone completely off guard! The lead singer Björn Skifs was on tour somewhere in Sweden when his manager or if it was the record company reached him and said "you should be in America now!" The singer admit later that he was right but at that time no one was prepared. Eventually they did went to America but by then it was way too late. This song i've heard many times on the radio when growing up here in Sweden. Quentin Tarantino used this song in his first movie Reservoir Dogs.

For some reason this song reminds me of "Don't Pull Your Love" by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds. Probably because they have a similar groove and they were pop hits in the 70s when I was a teen. You should really check out "Don't Pull Your Love" ... it's a fun tune!

I remember this song first sung by B.J. Thomas in 1969. In 1971 Jonathan King recorded his own version of this song & added the famous chant (ooga-chakas). Blue Swede copied that in 1974 & this song is considered their only big hit.

Whoever you are quoting when you state "considered their only big hit" is totally wrong. They had a #7 hit with a cover of "Never My Love" released a little while after this song.

It is pronounced "Swede" as in Swedish. Blue Swede is a Swedish band from Sweden. The way you pronounced it is spelled "Suede" and refers to a type of leather. Completely different.
