Lyrics:
Jesus, don't cry
You can rely on me honey
You can combine anything You want
I'll be around
You were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun
Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
Tuned to chords strung down Your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning Your orbit around
Don't cry
You can rely on me honey
You can come by any time You want
I'll be around
You were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun
Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
Tuned to chords strung down Your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning Your orbit around
Voices whine, skyscrapers are scraping
Your gravelly voice is smoking last cigarettes
Are all You can get, turning Your orbit around
Our love, our love
Our love is all we have
Our love
Our love is all of God's money
Everyone is a burning sun
Tall buildings shake
Voices escape singing sad sad songs
Tuned to chords strung down Your cheeks
Bitter melodies turning Your orbit around
Voices whine, skyscrapers are scraping
Your gravelly voice is smoking
Last cigarettes are all You can get
Turning Your orbit around
Last cigarettes are all You can get
Turning Your orbit around
Last cigarettes are all You can get
Turning Your orbit around

I introduced this song to my mother when I was a teenager. It became her favorite song ever and ultimately our song. She passed away a few days ago. It's touching and meaningful to me that such a beautiful piece of music can exist and my mother in some way can live through it. I miss you mom.

Every once in a while, somebody somewhere makes a sweet pretty song that immediately transports you back to a bittersweet time when you were young, and reminds you of memories you can never relive, but you're better for having. This is one of them. Thanks, Wilco.

I think it's less of "just a sun" and more of this belief that there's so much more than us. That little spec in the sky is someone somewhere's whole existence. Here we are on top of each other, building upwards in these giant buildings (skyscrapers scraping together). And there is so much out there. Each star is a finite opportunity like we have here. There's more than ourselves I guess. How I see it at least. I love how vague the lyrics are. I have no idea what it's about, but it's amazing.

You wanna marry the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Jesus literally will DRAPE your entire flesh like clothing and you will feel a door open in your heart and you will feel Jesus literally physically pour out into your entire body then up into your mind to share that brain and body with you... literally. Why? So that you will never ever be alone again and so you can feel heaven always... now.. not later. This is the gift of God called the Living Water bursting forth from the belly into the entire body. Ask Jesus for it with persistence and trust me even though I am a stranger. Ask Jesus for the Living Water to be poured out and for Him to come share that brain and body with you making 2 into 1.

@@LCAC75 Why does it sound creepy as hell. You Already have the Holy Spirit in you... why/how do you think your lungs pump air when you go to sleep? When you die you will go to a place -- in that place there will be a VERY special place... all spirits want to go there.... that place in the temple of Christ... and you will be the creepy one not allowed into it because you closed your mind off to the knowledge of God and that the human body, your temple is Gods temple -- created for Jesus to manifest as Spirit into... if this creeps you out then let me tell you another fact, the antichrist is a spirit who lives in your flesh and mind already. THAT ought to creep you out -- but he is slick... and you cant feel him in you... all i said was ask Jesus for a divine visions to confirm all this to you.... you dont wanna die and figure out it was all real and you missed the chance to enter the temple in the midst of heaven. Inquire on Jesus while he can be found while he will answer you. I aint asking you to believe anything. Im asking you to ask Jesus to show you if all this is real or not in a divine vision... and if you ask and nothing happens, so be it. At least you proved yourself to be open minded.

i discovered this song because of one of these „my favourite album by colour“ images and i thought the album cover looked quite interesting and well, now jesus etc. is one of my favourite songs ever. it is sad, but i think it also something hopeful and beautiful to it. it’s a something i can always listen to, no matter how i feel. i know a lot of people connect this song with sadness, but as i said, i think it’s two sided when it comes to this song. interpretation and feeling is free to everyone anyway, i am happy that so many people gain something from it, no matter what it is.

Ive never found a work that conveys sadness in the same way that this track does.. it is such a weird song. There were so many extraordinary factors that went into how it gained the emotional weight that it did. The biggest is of course 9/11 - which was miraculously unintentional in the conceptualization process. Tweedy also had a lot of creative strife with Bennett in the early writing, and ended up being the last major piece they contributed together on. Bennett's tinge on violin might have been born from this, and I think it is probably what is most effective in delivering that bizarre sadness. Couple that with how beautiful and profound the lyrics are in relation with one of the most powerful moments in modern human history, and you get what seems to be an accidental masterpiece. I'm really happy that this song was made.

I was playing this in the exam room waiting for my nurse practitioner to see me, when he came in, he was humming to the tune. This is a show of how iconic Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is. It's up there with "In An Aeroplane Over The Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel

"Tall buildings shake Voices escape singing sad sad songs Tuned to chords strung down Your cheeks Bitter melodies turning Your orbit around" It truly takes a master craftsman to put these words together. Take a bow, Jeff Tweedy.

I find that putting on Wilco helps greatly when I am studying (and pretty much anytime!). I have been a fan since I came across them a few years ago when I caught them on TV. I think Tweedy's voice has a unique quality. Just darned good music in my opinion and I hope to see them live!

I’m 47 and been loving Wilco since before their existence when Jeff was with Uncle Tupelo and before that they had a band called The Primitives that played at my Junior High Dance around 1985-86 or somewhere in those year spans! Jeff went to my high school in our hometown of Belleville, Illinois but he graduated before I ever got there!
