After a stunning wild camp at Rhossili bay, day three is a quiet one. Going over to visit Worms Head before a magical walk over Rhossili Down and on to Hillend Camp site. Day four it's out to Whiteford Lighthouse and on to Cwm Ivy. Day five, my final day back down from Llanmadoc Hills and along the salt marsh to the end of one of the best walking holidays iv'e had.

Sorry you didn't manage to get to Culver hole, one of the many caves, i was gutted i couldn't get to Goats hole cave at Paviland, the story of the red lady is the reason i first wanted to visit Gower, both times i failed, disappointed yes but like you next time for sure. Speechless. The cinematography is BEYOND, my friend. Cwm Ivy is my favourite place and I’ve never seen it looking so still, so majestic. Those ponies out in the water, what a sight. North Gower is such a different place to the south, more magical and much less visited. You’ve surpassed yourself Jim. Genuinely words fail me this time.
@JimHolden
@JimHolden 5 жыл бұрын
Hiya Phillipa, Cwm Ivy was my favourite section, so special having the time to wait for the high tide. I was never to know that it was going to be that high, and like iv'e said before if it wasn't for your recommendation to visit at high tide i would have walked on and missed a magical moment. The ponies i watched for hours, thinking they would stay out until low water but they slowly made there way back in, swimming at times. The full moon and wonderful sunrise made my final wild camp one to remember. Gower is so unique, my week there was wonderful, thanks again Phillipa for your input really appreciate it. Jim.

I had many encounters with sheep and lambs on this walk Phillipa but when i came across these i was aware that there wasn't a mother in the field. @@JimHolden you're welcome mate. Another tip for your next visit, which I think you missed on this one, if you're walking between Llangennith and Broughton, the bay that you walked across at low tide, Blue Pool Bay (the one with the small arch in the western headland), nestled in the rocks on the eastern headland is Blue Pool, nature's natural diving tank, a vertical sided rock pool which is around 12 foot deep (local legend states that it is bottomless, but it has a sandy bottom, I've sat on it) and 20ft diameter. One of the natural wonders of Gower, but only accessible at low tide as it is covered at high tide. Tap me up if you want a location map 😊

What a stunning beach that was and had it all to yourself. Shame about the 300 year bridge but nature always wins in the end, so may as well let it have the salt mash back. Morning Alan mate and thanks for watching. Just back from a break on the Tube, work took over from May to August and i can safely say ill never work like that again, never. Not only did it nearly kill me but i resented not having the freedom to get out when i needed to. Getting out is like an addiction in many ways, re charging, re connecting getting back to default, i really thought i was going mad for a while so once free at the start of August i hit the rd and i'm just back so sorry for the late reply. Dorset is probably my favourite county, love down there. Hope you had a great time mate, sometimes it's good to leave the camera behind and just relax. Cheers mate.

Heyup Jim finally got caught up on this second part of your'e 5 day hike & wildcamp adventure..a lot of the rock you were coming across in the first part,the limestone stuff reminds me a lot of the white peak area of the peak district,the geological element certainly stretches far & wide,but it's no surprise really as it's the ancient sea's from many millions of years ago that laid down the limestone area's such as the white peak area inland.The coastline you were on has such beautiful area's to wake to & there is that draw to the sea isn't there that's in us all i think that takes us back to our ancestors..Always love too seeing the ancient burial sites,standing stones & everything that went with the ancient landscape,what a site it would have been to see all that all those years ago,not just along coast lines but all that was inland too,so fascinating.. As i always say Jim great stuff & you put it together so well like no one else's stuff i watch.camera work so peaceful & thoughtful,the knowledge you have & how you get it across it's a pleasure to watch mate.atb & tfs..Andy.
@JimHolden

Thanks Andy mate, all through this walk i just felt like i was in the peak district or the dales, i met a Yorkshire couple one day and mentioned it to them, they agreed but said "whats missing though" and i couldn't think what, "dry stone walls that's whats missing, not a one on Gower" and he was right. Lots of hedge rows but no dry stone walls at all. Another thing i learned while there and that's all the caves, they were all in land caves when in use as the sea level back then was 300 metres lower so the Bristol channel was just a swampy valley and that's were most would have lived and only travelled to the high lands such as Gower to hunt. Walks like these armed with this sort of info gets the old imagination going for sure. Thanks for watching Andy, i doubt ill top this walk mate, such a brilliant week.

Beautiful Jim. Your video always make me feel I’m watching a nature/travel documentary. Can I ask... what is the weight of your rucksack when you first start out? Just interested that’s all. Thanks so much, Ant 👍

Thank you, really appreciate that. No idea what the weight was i never check, i know when it's too heavy for sure and start dumping stuff out that i don't really need. This trip i had a new pack, very light and a summer sleeping bag so probably the lightest pack iv'e carried for some time. Cheers mate.

Subbed. I'd like to know what camping gear you use, and what you record with. I have been gearing up ready for a trip around Gower and just wild camping in general. I'm from Swansea so it's easy to reach.

Thank you JR, last year i had the Oex tent, got it at GoOutdoors half price and it served me well. Used it all year starting with a winter mountain camp, held up in some very strong winds. My mat is the thermarest, not the cheapest but after trying them decided to splash out and get the best. I have a few sleeping bags, for winter it's the Rab Ascent 900, four seasons and proper toasty, for summer i just use my cheap but really light bag. My camera is the Sony A6000, fantastic for video. I have a gopro and the DJI drone but don't use them as much as the Sony. You are in a wonderful area mate with Gower the Brecons and Pembrokeshire all on your doorstep. I always say if ever i relocate it will be round your way. Good luck with your adventures and ATVB. Jim.

@@JimHolden I liked the Oex tent, and went with the gelert solo. I used it for two nights on ben nevis in some bad weather, and really happy with it. Will look into the sony, and Ascent bag. I have a summer bag, but looking for something for the winter. Its never crossed my mind to do what you did, and hike around the gower. Funny how we take things for granted that our on our door step. All the best mate.

All good thanks, just had to drop out for a while..sadly. My work was bonkers after this trip right into August, of course i resented not being able to get out but had to accept and get on with it. Just back from a week on the rd though, so new vid goes up tonight all being well. Thanks again and sorry for the late reply. Jim.
