Ahh, a wonderful little film and adventure this Chris. At the end you referred to a possibly negative theme.. well, not at all mate.. I took it as a true commentary of what that beautiful area has become in some ways. Very recently, we walked from top of Diggle to Blackstone Edge, passing through where you filmed this.. a wonderful walk, but yes.. the car park where the container cafe is, we refer to it as the 'Dystopian Car Park' as there is always shit everywhere, fly tipping around the mast and usually dead sheep on the side of the road! 🥴 It's just a mad moment while walking through the wild moors then you come across that place on route to the motorway bridge! Loved the history and nature knowledge you talk about that area.. I live in Tameside, so the source of the River Tame being at the top of Readycon Dean has always fascinated me. After seeing this, we may consider camping up that way ourselves sometime. Always such a pleasure to watch and listen to you mate.. Thankyou buddy. 🙏👍

How do Mats. Ooh, Diggle to Blackstone Edge, I sort of class as 'my moors' and have been my playground for all my life really. I guess that's why I get so frustrated when knobheads mess it up! Aye, the car park at Windy Hill is bleedin' awful and has attracted unsavoury characters for a very long time. I don't know Tameside that well, apart from occasional visits to the Millstone Brewery to pick up some ale. Also, my great grandfather was from Quick Edge 'Brew' in Mossley. Anyway mate, thanks for watching and the interesting comment.

Hi Chris. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. I always enjoy the content. A fascinating mix of experience, knowledge and humour - which is a rare skill nowadays. Some KZbinrs content seem to put far to much emphasis on what kit and accessories they have, which is - let’s face it - probably out of most people’s reach and budget. Keep the entertaining and informative videos coming Chris.

A bit cool and overcast, but still a great wild camp! I really enjoyed hearing about the old footpaths and seeing the 360 degree views - hearing about all the peaks and various areas. I just wish I could pop over there and check out these trails for myself! Some of our roads are based on long time native foot paths, in particular our main highway across the mountains follows a well establish route. Wouldn’t it be fun to find one of those old mill stones! Sorry to hear about your work situation, hope you find some work that makes you feel useful and happy- like mushroom hunter or nature photographer 😄👌 All the best from Washington, Jen

Hello Jen. It certainly didn't feel like spring on this one but things have improved in recent weeks 🌞. Our local area is criss-crossed by old routes and our local hills were occupied back in the Stone Age. There is a lot of history. The work situation, whilst unwelcome, isn't a calamity. I think the break will do me good. Thanks for watching and commenting. Best wishes, Chris

Hi Chris, as to the caravan near Windy Hill, I came across it shortly after it's arrival and can confirm it was dragged there by a bulldozer! There were fresh caterpillar tracks and it even dug out part of the hillside to level out the ground for it! As to why, who knows? Bad news about redundancy, but speaking from experience (5 times!) something better usually turns up. Plus it's much quieter for walking/camping midweek!

Very enjoyable. An area I love. White Hill is a particular favourite of mine when there has been heavy snow and blocked roads for days, since motorway access has meant getting out on to the moors, but with an easy escape down the M62 if the snow suddenly comes back. Unfortunately, we haven't had a winter like that for many years. But still, I enjoy that area at any time of year.

Hi Chris another good video, your not moaning, you’re telling us how you feel, so don’t hold back. 20 years ago you hardly heard of anyone being made redundant, now most people I know have either been, like my wife or like me just managed to dodge the bullet. Best of luck with that and sometimes like you say it forces you to make a change for the better. It’s so disappointing to see people damaging the country side in many ways, there simply isn’t any punishment for their actions any more. Really i suppose the wild areas Have become more accessible and with that comes anti social behaviour. I think the only way you get round it is still seeing the loveliness amongst the crap, there is still plenty on our doorsteps, we are still lucky to have what we have. Hopefully it will continue to be looked after, another great Chris JB outing, thank you for taking us along. All the best Tito 😊

In an ideal world, I'd like to take a good break from work and maybe do a long-distance footpath but I doubt the missus will like that idea 😭. It's murder round here for dickheads and some of the farmers and landowners are just as bad. And you are right, there just isn't any sort of deterrent. It's half-term this week and I was hoping to do a little three day, two night trip in the North Pennines, but so far the weather is looking very iffy, but I would like to get at least an overnighter in. I'm "peopled out" myself at this stage too, and my most common cry is "What's wrong with people!?" 😊 dirt bikers/quad bikers are extremely annoying, I live on the coast of NZ, and they destroy the dunes and nesting beach birds - its heartbreaking. 'Peopled out', yes, I know that feeling. Thanks for the words of encouragement re the job hunting. I don't think there is much on offer for guides, etc, roles like that are typically for volunteers. Aye up Chris hope you’re well lad. First n foremost I’m sorry to hear about your work situation and I suppose there’s nothin I can say really other than I wish you well but I’m sure you will make the right decision if you have to. The rest is up to you but just to say after 30 years in local govt at the age of 51 I took voluntary redundancy without anything in the pipeline because I’d simply become fed up of what I could offer as a public servant…it was at the time after the 2010 gen election and I could see things getter worse in the public sector so I took a six month sabbatical and then a Career change and never regretted it. But i wish you well I really do. I enjoyed this local ramble Chris even being senior to you in years, you inspire me to get to know more about my local areas to learn and discover more. On the mountain hare issue…what you said about the M62 is interesting I went to our Thorne n Hatfield Moors Conservation Forum AGM the other week n we had a speaker, an old school class mate called Brian Eversham who is currently the CEO of Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire, and a Director of Wildlife Travel.he gave us a talk on Conserving and restoring peatland wildlife in a changing climate He gave us examples of how species of flora n fauna will move north n south across boundaries and changing eco systems because of climate change. On the mountain hare he estimated that in 10 years their would be no longer sitings of hares in the Pennines and they would migrate north occupying the northern Pennines mainly and across into the lakes BUT….he never mentioned the Bloody M bloody 62 as a physical barrier!!! Take care Chris….and seriously…Bessie’s…Ron

Retirement would be wonderful but I'm a long way off that yet. With regards to the mountain hares, perhaps they'll move north but have to stop at the M62 and I'll be falling over hundreds at them looking all sad at the speeding traffic on my local walks😆! Thinking about it, there are a few pipes, a subway, plus the PW footbridge if they were really determined! Best wishes, Chris

How do Stewart. It's a shame isn't it? Unfortunately, the South Pennines don't have the protection of the Peak District, Dales, etc. Though I'm sure the numbskulls impact in those places too.

Enjoyable video Chris, would be good to get a walk in up there. Done a few walks up that way, station to station, that Little borough to Marsden, took me over some of that country. Done some circulars up piethorne too.

Excellent video Chris though sorry to hear you might be made redundant. As usual you have plenty of history and wildlife stories which are great..unfortunately everywhere is affected by those who choose to dump their rubbish in the countryside..one of my favourite photo locations in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains suffers from abandoned cars, plastic, discarded kitchen and bathroom units...as you say..dickheads... Many thanks and best wishes.

How do Jepson Awesome video 👌Full of local history stories, wildlife information, and funny you should mention Eskdale with reference to your geology information staying there at the moment 😎 There nowt like a good moan, I agreed with every word 🤪. And finally what an opportunity possible being made redundant, Use your imagination and go self employed 🤔 😉

Ta Johnny. Aye, redundancy comes as a bit of a shock when you first hear it, but it happened about ten years ago too and that worked out pretty good. Sometimes I've found myself staying in jobs too long so a good kick up the jacksy is a good thing sometimes. 👌

@@ChrisJB Just to elaborate I was made redundant from the same company twice back in the 1990s. So I decided then to go self-employed, Be incharge of my own future. I've had two retail businesses snack-bar and owned a chip shop as well as buying and selling online. Currently semi-retired but still in the motor trade with my son. So I was able to just have a week in Eskdale without having to book holiday time or ask anyones permission 😉. What about selling electrolyte tea online 🤪 however it didn't look the best 😂

A lot of gloom in this one Chris, but you're only saying what many of us think. Sadly, we are breeding more and more 🔔 ends. The trouble with the north west is that the moors, etc, are just too accessible to vandals. One of the reasons I hike and camp is to escape that shite and it's disappointing when it reaches the countryside. I really hope that things pick up for you on the job front. Any tv executives watching should snap you up pronto 😉 Thanks again bud, atb, Paul

Thanks Paul. There are a lot of knobs round here mate spoiling it for everyone else. You're right, it's that rural urban fringe that we live on. Saying that, a fair few of the farmers and landowners are as bad. There's no real urgency to get sorted re work....although it's easy to say that now. I might be panicking come September!

I am disappointed you didn't like teaching, or was it more the bullshit that goes with it. You appear to me to be a good communicator. What do you think of that expensive pack? You sound like a very interesting man. Take advantage of your redundancy and do the Pennine Way, if it happens. Cheers😊

How do Marty. I think right from the off, I always felt like a square peg in a round hole re teaching, certainly in your average UK school anyway....you are right though, the bullshit was a big contributing factor. As for the pack, I love it. I've had it five years now and it's in good nick and comfortable. I had an Osprey Atmos 50L before that, which gave me terrible hip pain and I flogged it. I'd love to do the PW again. Best 16 days of my life.
