I've noticed things have started to fall off as I get older ! Hopefully you've turned a corner now ! Strange as this seems, a friend of mine had all her teeth done in Turkey ! Another goes to Poland ! Sorry to hear another friend has fallen. To have spent time like that with the previous generation must have been inspirational ! Another interesting hike and camp Chris, sounds like you have been in the wars of late. Hope things improve over the coming weeks, I have had zero interest to head out and do a camp. But hoping I can drag myself out , I only watch you and a handful of channels these days as too much click bait shite gan about. Thank you for an interesting video, I hope that your health issues clear up soon and that you are back to full strength. I can relate to some of your problems, but by tramping the mountains, I'm managing to keep myself out of trouble, health wise. I would say that the mountains have saved me, I'm 76 and been in the hills most of my life as a guide and bushcraft instructor. I have done 32 tramps so far this year and hope to do more before the year is out. May I be so bold as to tell you to. "Keep walking the hills for as long as you are able". This will make stress fall from your shoulders like the leaves from the trees in Autumn and keep all the organs in tune with each other. If time permits, at least twice a week (I mean with a pack). All my peers, who do the same as me, are free of major health problems and can still carry heavy loads. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ ☺☺

Hi Chris. Sorry to hear of your health issues, but glad it hasn't dampened your ardour for local history. It was full of supposition and conjecture (meant complimentary) but very believable. Your mate Ozzy sounds like a fella called Norman I used to work with. He had some funny phrases. One he used to say if you were going to the dentists (pertinent to your teeth problems) was "Are t goin' fer a new fireplace". I never asked what it meant, but it's probably something about the mouth being a focal point in your face? Hope you're feeling better, atb, Paul

Well done for toughing that out, I always jump on your vids as soon as I see them. Love the cotton grass, such a splash of contrast. Do you get sticky sundew your way? My old mate Terry, sadly passed, showed me that and Tormentil, on the North York Moors. A favourite spot of mine there is the green hairstreak. You must be pulling round to have a beer I know I am not right when I just don`t fancy a beer.

Never knew that about the spelling of Manshead. I remember doing it years ago with a walking group used ti be with. Looked like nice route Chris. That cough sounded bad Chris. In addition, tooth sounded horrendous, and check symptoms sounded like facial neuralgia, which I recently had problems myself. Completely sympathise with your predicaments, as been there myself. Sorry to hear of your sad loss, but do get better Chris.

Another fabulous video Chris. I just love the way you put things across. You're an absolute natural story teller. I subscribe to loads of Wild camping You Tubers, but always get a buzz when I see you put a new video up. I Ioved the way you advised anyone wanting an "uplifting video" that they weren't going to get one😄Ironically, That in itself was hugely uplifting. Glad you're on the mend and already looking forward to your next adventure.

Sorry to hear about your health issues. I know what it's like - and it gets worse as you get older. I do like Great Manshead. Have you been to the wartime air raid shelters for the decoy fires? I have always been fascinated by them, since they're the only ones I have come across in the north. The only others I have seen were in the hills south of Bristol. Hope you shake off the health problems soon, and enjoy the summer hols.

That’s a bugger that Chris! Try to keep smiling….just bought a Hilleberg Enan after having an Akto for the winter, the Enan is superb, a bit heavier than my Notch but such a great porch! Whole kit now 5.5kg so light enough! I had a crown come off 2 years ago and I’ve just left it, seems fine as it is, spent the cash on back packing gear instead Lol, guess I’ll have to get it done in the end, unless I buy a new camera…?

I call it Man Shed. A, ideal place to get away from the missus....

Camped there many a time myself Chris. You get the odd fell runner, and the odd dog walker, but otherwise a nice quiet spot.

Feel yr pain with the teeth situation chris id had a terrible time couple month back with mine end up having a molar removed & to have another one removed in a few days too..bloody nightmare.. Great stuff again though as always love the info you relay & especially on about place names & possible reasons for it..i reckon youre onto something with the stones around that trig thats something you see around ancient burial mounds,and finding evidence of flint etc points to something up there dont it.. Well hope tha back to full fitness before long & we'll have to arrange an outing..atb chris..

An old flat mate of mine had one of those implants, front-left. It used to conduct extremes of temperature straight into his skull, so he had to eat and drink in such a way that hot drinks etc. never made contact with it. Of course he forgot from time to time and I vividly remember him holding his head in agony one time after eating ice cream. Something to bear in mind if you're going down that route.

Tooth pain is nasty. I have not had too many problems, but my mom lost every tooth, one at a time, painfully. She was a smoker and loved the hard candies. I think her dentist bought a yacht when he was done with her! Good health to you from here on!

I don't often comment on videos, but yours deserve it. Most You Tube wild campers, and there are millions, strike me as macho poseurs who could clear any bar in 30 seconds dead. (Patrick Dickinson is an honourable exception.) Your videos are reasoned and down to earth. Full of information about the natural world, the countryside and the odd and fascinating history of the land on which you tread. All presented in a straightforward and honest style. Well done. It helps, of course, that I was born and bred in Rochdale and spent a good chunk of my life there. My cousin, now deceased, lived on Kiln Lane and an entertaining and rather eccentric school friend also lived on the council estate at the top of Kiln Lane, the name of which I have forgotten. Heybrook, Smallbridge and the country around Clegg Hall was my childhood playground, now a very distant memory.

Hi Chris, Well done for getting out, I genuinely feel your pain mate, I’ve had the abscess on one of my front teeth, he has to break above my tooth, remove the abscess which he described as a beauty, he then knocked the tip of the root of the tooth off so it didn’t get infected, the only way I can describe it was he virtually sat on my chest and it was like he was putting a ring spanner over the root and trying to yank my face off, he is actually a brilliant dentist and when he stitched my up 2 1/2 hrs later he asked if that was alright, which I replied “best 2 1/2 hours of my life” I then paid which was also painful and left, it did the trick so no implant required, but on another tooth where I had a root infection I did have a crown and it kept dropping out so I went for implant, was a pain to get fitted etc and definitely the price, but knowing that’s it has made it worth it.go for it I know it’s a fortune but better then dentures. Regarding covid I think I got in feb and sure it’s impacted my lungs, but hard to be sure as I’m as fat as a character from a Dickens novel. One other thing to say is audio on this vid was great, I’ve got a rode and made a bit of an arse of it but now know what I’m doing and think it’s a big improvement, what Db do you set it at please ? Lastly sorry about your mate, we have got to that stage mate, been to so many funerals in last 9 months, but your attitude of remembering with Fondness is the way to go, good people are still good people way after they have died. Good to see you finally getting back to what appears to be full fitness Chris. I appreciate the barriers to what you love - I mean I've had a bad leg now for 4 years. Maan, it's been mental. Re-the moors up there and the old ways we have the Lugg flood plains here, which contain the largest Lammas meadows in the country. I love em. In fact I've just got a book exploring the history and will share on YT. A decent pitch with some great tales of Ozzy. I know the amazing chap you mean - we've lost a good few. Walked up there from Baitings about five years ago, I couldn't work out what the structures were further the along the hill; I found out when I got back that they were some sort of decoys from during the war, it makes for quite interesting reading!
