I also am a recovering alcoholic, with a few good years strung together. Once my withdrawals stopped, (and even with MAT I had a seizure. One thing that people don’t understand about benzodiazepine and alcohol, is that the life-threatening symptoms begin AFTER you think you’ve made it through.) You may be eating your first meal in a week, feelin’ good, and then you broadside a minivan full of kids. I’m a physician, and even I underestimated it. Do not, I repeat, ✨do not✨ try to tackle this without medical assistance.

@@BlackMilkSleep Absolutely! My last week of drinking before I could get into a rehab center was “maintenance drinking”. I didn’t want to have a seizure in front of my children. In my outpatient rehab I was placed on medication to prevent seizures and I am now over 8 years sober. I witnessed many people in AA meetings have seizures and it is scary AF! Be careful and get professional assistance to get sober it could save your life or at the least avoid a traumatic event for you and your loved ones.

Congrats of 7 years! My husband sobered up and has been sober since 4-10-84, which to date as I am writing this is 38 years. He always states when he speaks at a meeting that jail saved him! He spent 3 months in jail and realized every time he went it was longer and longer time, all because of his use, so he took treatment offered. My kids have never seen their father drink or use, neither have I and he went to College and is an amazing husband and man. It can be done! Great job!

This clown doesn’t realize the grace and love Judge Simpson is taking the time to spend on him. The conversation taking place is the more than likely the last stop before a life is lost. It genuinely breaks my heart to see someone taking time to wrap a stranger up in the opposite of addiction. To be a judge is to have the ability to change lives when done correctly. Their interaction is everything you hope a justice system should be. LOVE YOU SIMPSON!!
@arctain1
@arctain1 Жыл бұрын
The culture in general - and this guy specifically - is unaware that Grace means a loving and forgiving attitude towards someone that didn’t deserve the loving and forgiving attitude. At all. That, no matter what what this guy does, his actions are commingled with pain and destruction (self or otherwise); nevertheless, Grace sets the banquet table and welcomes the prodigal with open and loving arms. If this guy - and culture in general - understood this, he would fall on his knees crying and profusely thank Judge Simpson for the Grace shown. Grace doesn’t overlook the crime and the destruction. It doesn’t accept the bad behavior. It calls it wrong and abhorrent. And then it says, I love you, I will help you.
@willcifur
@willcifur Жыл бұрын
@@arctain1 I mean .. you nailed it. You’re response begins and ends in love and compassion. It’s really hard to remain forgiving … like it really is. I mean genuine forgiveness that allows a burdened heart relief and perspective. If you ever see genuine love from someone who has no obligation to do so mannnnn .. it makes the knees buckle. It’s hard to choose things like understanding and suspend judgement but you are absolutely correct that it’s most direct way forward. it’s the only way to transcend the pain and counterbalance the void. I’m an atheist but I have been finding myself on the side of people with faith in the last two years lol
@arctain1
@arctain1 Жыл бұрын
@@willcifur - thanks. I really wasn’t talking about faith, or even the belief in a benevolent God, though if there was a God that calls Himself Good, I would think He would be an enemy of man - considering how wickedness permeates all that we touch and think. It’s kind of like Nature. When we set aside all the erroneous romantic notions of Nature, and really look at what is ‘natural’, we soon are confronted with a harsh Nature, red in tooth and claw (as Tennyson put it), trying to kill us, and all that lives, at every opportunity. Nature is not our ‘friend’. The ‘natural’ is out to draw blood, to squash and kill the weaker and exploit them until we ourselves succumb to nature’s unending scythe. But if we were to talk of God, being Good …for who can imagine a wholly ‘Bad’ God? A God who encourages, if not rewards, vice and malice and hate and evil? That goes against the very fiber of all that we think, doesn’t it? Isn’t that why we see grace and honor and bravery and selflessness, as qualities to ascribe? Isn’t it because we know - in the very fiber of out being, beyond all knowledge of Nature and ourselves - that Goodness exists and is something that is NOT natural to ourselves. That when we see it - like you so eloquently put it - is something to buckle the knees. If we are being honest with ourselves we know that, like Nature, a Good God would NOT LIKE - abhor, is probably a better word - the works of man. That mankind is so ‘not good’ that even mankind’s acts of kindness and love are mixed with selfishness and evil. So much so that were we to be confronted with Pure Goodness it would scare us, shame us, make us exceedingly afraid - make us want to run as far away as we can and hide under the biggest rock. That there would be no confronting Goodness - even though we have a concept of it - without being burned up with the bright light of what we would, without doubt, call Holiness.

Judges Simpson and Middleton are treasures I hope their constituents appreciate as much as we do listening to these streams. They both care about peoples' situations and spend time trying to get them on the right path and don't just robotically dispense rulings. Simpson's landlord-tenant matters really fly in comparison to Middleton's though. He has so many to get through in an average day.

What a wonderful and kind and gentle and compassionate spirit Judge Simpson has. Addicts are so difficult to deal with (been married to one for 22 years, he's fine now but it's been a rough road), but they are also people who probably started using because of trauma, to numb the pain, but continue using after becoming addiction, and to numb the feelings of guilt and shame, and lie about it because they are both embarrassed and ultimately don't want to be told that they must stop. It's such an ugly and painful cycle for everyone involved in the orbit of the addict, and extremely painful and humiliating and frustrating for the addict himself. It seems simple to non addicts: just don't get high. But "simple" is not the same as "easy." The act of starting an engine is easy: you turn the key. But it's not actually simple: several things must happen in a chain of events for the engine to start. Conversely, it's a simple task to remain sober: don't drink the alcohol, don't smoke the joint, don't snort the line. It's a simple thing to *not* do something. But for an addict, it's not as easy as that. It's extremely hard to just stop. Usually, it's going to require an outside force to restrict access and force sobriety. An addict will end up in 1 of 3 places: in recovery, in an institution (jail/prison), or in a pine box.

Happy Thanksgiving Handsome. I see the latest resounding excuse is covid. That's why I didn't go to be tested and when I did I tested positive for cocaine and that's why I didn't do community service etc etc etc. I had covid and I'm still not feeling right 😂
