Out in the Cambrian Mountains for Part 2 of the Wild Elan Way. In Part 1 I walked the River Elan in the Cambrian Mountains from source through to Craig Goch Reservoir and the Lluest Cwmbach bothy but not before meeting good farming folk and fisherman. Here in Part 2 we meet up with bothy goers and even Bothy Association who are having an annual general meeting at Lluest Cwmbach bothy in the Cambrian Mountains. Later we connect with a great bunch of Mountain Bikers from Shrewsbury Cycles who are great fun. It turns out to be an amazing hike with views to inspire before reaching it's confluence with the Wye below Rhayader. So join me on this memorable hike, bothy and wild camp on the River Elan.

Amazing views! It’s great to see more of the Elan Valley, I’ve been going there for years but it’s amazing to see some spots that are off the beaten path. The number of times I’ve driven past that church but never been inside, and it’s absolutely beautiful. Great video!

Glad you liked this section. Personally I enjoyed the source as much. As for love there was love in it to guys especially at the church. Did you notice the remembrance? I only mention it because it was a major narrative in the video and of course we don't like to loose anyone we love do we? Indeed, my twin (Paul) like you two was my outdoors buddy - we did a lot together almost everything. So he was threaded into the video. Indeed, I actually mentioned Paul and I as I approached the church. As you can imagine I like people to get it and to notice - straight up that's what I like regarding Paul. You would be the same. It's free will of course what you notice but I do feel the absence of it when it's obvious. Not to say you're without virtue it's just that we have just been speaking of anxiety and depression. It's something I thought you were going to resonate with upon recommendation. Oh well my expectations were to high again. Take care. Mark

@@TeaInValhalla Oh no I love to talk about Paul - he's in nearly every video. We didn't get married or have children and lived together. We were proper twins. I haven't wanted to be here - truly! So, to stave off that potential I've sought to love his life by keeping his memory alive - it's helped. I hope my sensitivity Ceri hasn't changed your mind about me. I can go very deep in my videos because I am exploring life in the shadows - it's what many cannot link with but it's what many go through. There is light of course and I have a lot of fun to. When outdoors I come alive and release myself from that depression. I'm sure you know that one. Well, have a great weekend Ceri and Kat. Peace.

Hi there Dave, in truth I wanted some deep rest so pitched away from the Bothy, which was occupied by some egos granted. This was made up by the bikers and others later. I love the sources of the Wye rivers. They change in character as I go and so to does the conversation with them. I'm really pleased you liked this one Dave - it meant a lot to do it. Cant believe im only just getting to see this video 5 years after you posted😂 So im a big Elan fan…and have spent so much time in the Elan Valley and around the reservoirs. I did the bothy last year. After a very boggy walk,it was such a peaceful and welcoming place. No one else there 👌🏻 Had a bit of a weird occurrence. When i arrived i walked to the front door, which was open…gate was shut…and i could hear a womans voice coming from inside .. So i called out..”knock knock…coming in” (just incase anyone was changing) No answer so i entered and it was empty. As you know its very remote. I checked all round outside and there was no one about. When i left i just said “thankyou mrs Scott for your hospitality “ I like to think it was possibly one of the Scott lasses. It felt very emotional actually 🤗

Hi there - so good you finally made it and made it to the Bothy. Yeah, it's fairly remote - not such a bad walk. Interesting to hear of the lady and the Scott family. Well Mark even before I sat down to watch this tonight I knew I would enjoy part two as much as I did part one, and I was not wrong. Loved your shots of the reservoir at sunset at the beginning. Shame about the folk at the bothy, I suppose a group like that can be quite clicky, but you still kept that smile on your face my friend, so good on you! :) A lot of cyclists around on your walk, nice to have met up with those guys from Shrewsbury at the start and near the end of your walk, they seemed a nice bunch. Lovely shots of those reservoirs where the water levels were very low. Enjoyed your chat to Paul at that lovely little church, I thought that was truly wonderful. Interesting to see inside the visitor centre too and great shots of the Elan meeting the Wye. Like you say, if no-one appreciates the Cambrian Mountains after watching your film Mark, I guess nothing will, but I certainly did. Thanks for taking us along with you. All the best. Cheers, Patrick :)

Hi Patrick and good morning my friend. Part 2 saw many pleasures and delights not least that light. Of course there are many things. which can disappoint like some of the Bothy guys. But that's life. On the flip side the bikers were great and we all take it either way i guess Patrick - how else? Yes, I'm always talking to Paul. In fact it's been exhausting but I am mellowing with it now. It was mellow at the church. Like you I enjoyed seeing the Elan meeting the Wye. It feels special having followed it from source. You know the area Patrick. It's spectacular. I thought I sold it! An epic part 2 Mark. The Bothy looked an amazing location. I guess it is luck of the drawer finding it vacated. I think you got the grumpy end of the stick with a couple of the MBA members! I like the footprint of the original river courses at low tide and the bench at the Church at Caban Coch was a nice reflection for you of your visit with Paul. Looking at the OS map, I will have to learn some Welsh before venturing over there! So much history to discover. You put a few miles in here. Thanks for the round trip and speak soon. Stephen.

Morning Stephen, you're right the Bothy was in a fantastic location. I loved the story the old farmer imparted about the chap who moved out in 1953-get that 1953. He was a nice fellow the Bothy guys had to try hard. The walk to the church was awesome as was the feeling when I got there. I find it incredible, as I'm sure you do, why life has to be the way it is. It is that way and we have to find a place for it. I'd love to see you down here Stephen. I remember you doing some research on the Strata Florida and the ancient way. Still on the cards maybe? The walk was 23 miles after Stephen - alright and felt good. Take care care my friend and many thanks. Mark

What a wonderful journey that was... thanks so much for taking us with you Mark. Have to say the Church visit got me - I could feel your memories. The guys on the bikes - good banter and fab you met up with them on their end of say too. The bothy section, don't know if it was me but have to say could feel the vibe immediately. You are too kind a person to say but not a great welcome from the hierarchy I would say (*thumbs down on that*) No matter, it did not intrude on your journey. What I loved was although the reservoirs were low it enhanced our (your) view of the River Elan - which as you know would not have looked so obvious when they are full - great timing for that indeed :) That Bizimkiler Enigma track has been playing about in my head since part 1.. love it. Great trip Mark. I've cycled great big chunks of that route in the past - but so long ago that it's out of my memory, and so it's mostly new to me again :o) The replacement bridge alongside the older suspension bridge doesn't seem familiar - I'm sure I've driven along those roads in the past, from Rhayader. I think camping away from the bothy was the right thing to do - I have past experiences of the MBA, and not all good :o( (The MBA does do a flippin' good job of fixing up and maintaining most British bothies though, I should say that) The reservoirs all looked a bit low after the dry summer - won't take long to fill them up though - it's a wet region, as our boots can testify. The Elan/Wye confluence is quite an important meeting of the streams though - great to see that.Cheers, Dave

Now somehow that doesn't surprise me Dave. It's the region you are affectionate towards it seems what with Plynlimon to. Yes, the Bothy guys weren't to accommodating so a pitch away was bliss in fact. As you say they maintain the Bothy's, which is great. The one good thing about the low water levels was the fact I could see the original flow of the Elan. It was fascinating. Soon, you won't see that until next year maybe. Yeah, wet up there now! Thank you Carl. I really enjoyed this leg - heck I enjoyed it all. This is a small portion of the Cambrians. There are deep valleys and huge forests elsewhere. It is wild. As for visiting I will message you. All the best. Mark
