Camped on Cefn (Keven) Hill an outlier of the Black Mountains and source of the river Monnow with my mate Jay Macalees son of infamous mercenary Pete Macaleese (Killing Escobar). It's his BA honors in photography end of course show and he's chosen me as his subject because I'm a bit of a river nut having walked every river of the Wye. We find a secluded pitch with great views of the mighty Hay Bluff and the entire Eastern Escarpment of the Black Mountains. I enjoy a curry and we speak about Pete Macalees and my father who would curry anything in the SAS - it's SAS culture but not as you know it. Later we enjoy an amazing evening with a bonus camp fire courtesy of a fire pit and scar already there. The morning looking down the Monnow valley was superb.

Always good to be in special places! My neighbour, Tona, burns sheep's wool to make a dense smoke to keep the wild boar and badgers away from his maize fields. Your affinity with Paul is nothing the rest of us can understand. It is certainly something special that only the two of you shared and that you feel him close in such environments must be a comfort, and its a stunning location to camp and feel him close.

I agree Andrew - we can't overdo a visit to a special place. I've just been told that sheep's wool needs some intense heat - makes sense that it will smoke from what I experienced. Re-Paul he was so close - I kept seeing him come up through inside me. Ah, it was the hill Andrew - he loved it there. It is a comfort. Many thanks. Mark

Hi Mark! It was such a lovely video full of interest. Jason seems like a great guy, not letting his injury restrict him! I hope he does well in his degree! How beautiful your moment with your Paul, I really hope it gives you much comfort knowing he is always with you and you with him. Stunning place to camp and take in those views. Definitely an added bonus of a camp fire. I wish I could understand why people leave rubbish - they carry the bottles there, so it's no effort to carry them back! Anyway, thankfully those kind of people are in the minority!! Really enjoyed the video Mark... you take care, Jenny.

What a fabulous subject for a photography exhibition 😉 lots of luck to Jason with his degree. I loved this video Mark. It's always special to see glimpses of Hay Bluff... the view from my old bedroom window, along with Twmpa. I miss the area so much & often think of returning. Earlier this year sheep farmers were protesting about poor wool prices by burning the wool. Logic says that the lanolin in it must be flammable but apparently it has to be a powerful heat source for it to burn. I suppose that's why it's sometimes used for house insulation. Happy walking!

Hi there Anita - good to gear from you. Ha, me the subject - I'm happy for that - hope Jason does well. Re-the bluff and area I'm always happy that it resonates. I know how it feels to see it - hope you can visit. Call me and we'll walk. As far as the sheep's wool is concerned it just wasn't taking. Your analogy makes sense - I mean the insulation. Well, always good - many thanks. Take care out there. Mark

A thoughtful moment by the fire, a time with Paul. Looks like you had a restful night camping and greeted with glorious morning skies. Shame to see the rubbish left behind, we can only try to leave a place better than how we found it hey. Hope you have a good week Mark, all the best.

Good morning Mark. I watched and enjoyed it on the tv. Another good one mate. Very easy to sit back relax and enjoy. Beautiful spot and beautiful views. You and your mate seem to have a lot in common. Good curry😁👍 I can sit and watch a good fire for hours, looks like dogs can too. You are very honest and say it as it is, I like that. Nicely shared that you cried when you walked on your own. My best mate has an older brother and sister. He used to say to me twins are weird😂 When his sisters went into labor he said his bro had stomach pains too. I don't know, crazy bond though that not many will experience or understand. Keep caring and sharing. Well done taking the bottles you could carry👍 All the best mate👋

Alright there Jamie, thanks mate - I really appreciate your kind and supportive words. For sure a great space to gather the self especially around the fire - that was a bonus. Re-me speaking of Paul and me shedding a tear it was profound up there - I kept seeing him through me. I think that's what brought it on. Yes, we had a far out bond in life - we fought to mind you. But we never fought over the environment bottles and all - that we agreed upon. Many thanks Jamie. Take care out there. Mark

Hey, thanks Simon. Yeah, it was a good one common ground and all. Ah, couldn't speak to Jay without giving some background - members of our families have done some things as well as eat lots of curry - that was nice. Re-Paul that was and is an amazing feeling - it happens fairly often. Many thanks Simon. Have a great week ahead. Mark

A lovely camp spot that Mark, in a shallow bowl with the sound of the cuckoo. Your mate Jase certainly seems an interesting character. Good on you shifting some of that crap too. I despair sometimes at the selfishness of some. Anyway, sorry to end on a negative. Best wishes, Chris

Nice one Mark, another nice camp mate . I noticed a couple of buzzards above you when you were eating your curry. I once knew a guy who had a similar injury to Jason, the guy i knew used fly fish with the use of one arm. Cracking morning to wake up to , stunning .. I dont understand these people who can carry stuff in and cant take it back out , its a major problem in the honey pot camping areas up here ..Good vid as usual bro ...cheers Stevie

Re-your mate and Jason - we don't realize just what these limbs do for us once they're gone. Hats off to those challenged in this way. Jase is doing stella. As for the babies leaving rubbish - we clean up after babies eh? Thanks stevie - take care out there. Mark

@@WyeExplorer I really enjoyed that as always Mark. Beautiful spot where you camped on Cefn Hill, nice to see where location of the source of the Monnow. Hey I think that's great being chosen as the subject for Jason's photography honors, no-one will know the Wye tributaries any more than you. Loved the fireside feelings of Paul you shared and enjoyed the sound of nature around you like the cuckoo and the sheep the next morning. I did laugh when you talked about currying crap food up to make it taste better 😂 I must admit I enjoy a good curry too. Great camp Mark with good company again. All the best 👍
