Just a simple video going over my method for frying squirrel legs. A tasty treat to have while out at the trapper cabin. Thank you to everyone who watches! God bless.

looks good my mother used to use a very similar way to cook grey squirrel also cotton tails and jack rabbits . after almost 50 years I can still smell the good things that came out of her kitchen.

We just caught and cooked muskrat and beaver with our students on the trapline over the fire. The meat was great. We’ve done the same with squirrels. You are much more fancy than us 😂

Hi Kusk, always enjoy your videos! I wonder if you maybe lose quite a bit of flavour with the boiling stage on this one. An alternative take if you maybe want to try it: 1. Salt and pepper the meat, sizzle it in a pan with a table spoon of fat until nice and brown on both sides. 2. Then you can optionally add a bit of onion, peppers, garlic, spoon of tomato paste, any vegetable really, continue lightly frying until these are also softened and reduced. 3. Finally, add enough water to cover the meat about halfway and let it simmer for about an hour or however long you want. Can add a bit of stockcube at this stage or even a diced potato or so to cook along with it. You can add more water as it cooks, but let it reduce towards the end so that you get a nice thick-ish sauce with it :)

Thank you for this. Such a surprisingly good meal. I also enjoyed your video from a few years back where you prepped the squirrel fried whole in a cast iron skillet with potatoes and gravy. Thanks again.

Parboiling is the secret. A nice big old squirrel is tough as leather if it doesn't boil before hitting the plate. Are you putting out any more trapping video? It looked like things were going ok and then I haven't seen more. Hope you are well and thanks for the work.

Hm seems good but I think that instead of the wet flour you can have an egg, in my country we do something similar but with chicken and when we are covering it we first dip it into the egg and then in the flour maybe the egg can add some flavour. But the water is more simple that's fact

Man I've been wanting to try squirrel for the last few years now but Alberta only allows you to hunt them on private land. Wish they'd change that.

Lots of people would be glad to get rid of their squirrels. Best thing to do is ask around (even family and friends) and see if anyone has any nuisance squirrels they're looking to get rid of. Best of luck! Take care.

Coyotes eat all the squirrels they want where I am, you're not allowed to hunt them so, they hang around looking at us and our dogs as chicken feed.
